So... what car do you guys drive when not flying?

So....what did you buy/drive?

I also notice that it seems most dealers do the red ribbon treatment these days. Use to be just the likes of BMW or Audi but friend bought a Navara ute on the weekend and had the huge red ribbon delivery pics 🤣

My experience with Subaru was really poor, they basically implied I couldn't afford to buy their car. So I bought a Mazda. And a second Mazda.

That happened to me the first time I went to buy a car. It was a BMW - he couldnt care less, I ended up buying a Merc, and now I am looking at buying my third benz. How the initial contact with the dealer really does play a BIG part of the deal IMO.

I love my Mazda 3 and I talked my mum into a Mazda 2, which she also loves. Mine had a big red ribbon over it when I went to pick it up, but I didn't get a box of goodies. Lucky you!

I got nothing for my first Mazda (a 3), not even a bow. Got the full experience for my 6.

My 2nd choice car was the Mazda CX5 but after driving a Subaru for 20yrs prior, it was my 1st choice again and thats what I went with.

Only thing I HATED about my experience was being handed off to someone else to upsell stuff like a coating for the paint and some sort of ding fix membership then a 3rd person to upsell insurance ect. I was pretty rude and abrupt after a few attempts to be polite - all I wanted was the car so get it ready for me the way Ive already agreed to. Otherwise very happy with the dealership, still go there for services even though its 5yrs old (only 20,000klms)

Ah, I see, I didn't spend enough with them!

We had the same thing with mum's car, but the dealer was great and really looked after her. I will probably go there for my next car, even though it's in Sydney.

After over 30 years of driving Benzes MrMac bought a Kia Optima. We did a little zoom up the freeway to Ringwood and back to the city - Imagine our surprise when we had to fill up with petrol !We also had to call back into the dealership & I told the salesman - thinking it was an oversight - he said no cars drove off with a full tank. We make hardly any money on a car & if we filled every petrol tank of every car we sold......!! I was looking at going out of a Benz into a Kia as well, an SUV (which we'd mentioned to him previously) The thick dill wondered when we'd be coming back for a test drive....seemed a bit shocked when I explained that for the price of a tank of petrol he'd lost a $30,000+ sale.

Yesterday I went to a Subaru dealer with a friend. The dealer was certainly in no hurry to try and sell a car.

Big mistake. Car dealers are only seriously interested in customers in the last two days of the month when they have to meet their targets or don't get their bonuses/kickbacks. Last day of the month the best time to buy a car, not the first day of the month.

YMMV

I once had a BMW salesman reply to a query on a rather large and unexplained charge on his quote as "I have to send my kids to private school, you know". I guess he'd already annoyed me, but at that point I simply walked out.

Anyway, I've chosen my S3 replacement, and will have it on Friday. Not what I was originally looking at, but a member of the same family....
