So... what car do you guys drive when not flying?

Same neighbour with the Raptor said that his daughter had just ordered one. He seemed quite impressed. Kia’s new electric car is very interesting (as is the related Hyundai).

What is it with selling Porsches? A mate just sold his Macan. Less than 24 hours on carsales.

If it sold in under 24 hours, it was probably underpriced!

Couldn't get into it once because it was flat as a tack!

Modern cars remain live (until the battery goes flat) and the manufacturers could and should do more to educate folks
to leave unused cars on a trickle charger.
Even low use/low mileage cars have problems ; as almost all have gel batteries that eventually habituate to low voltages, refuse to fully charge when the car is running , start posting error codes and facilitate the sale of new batteries by the stealers.

Have had the flat battery issue a number of times. Couldn't get into it once because it was flat as a tack! 😂🤦‍♂️
Most keyless fob cars I have owned have had a manual key in the fob. After finding the key it was more than a challenge to find the lock to get into the car but once in the car it usually started.

Once a fortnight I routinely put each car battery onto a multistage battery charger

The stop-start cars have some sort of a battery management system. On the battery negative terminal is a small computer/battery monitoring chip. There is an algorithm involved but basically it appears to keep the battery voltage no more or less than 12.5V. If the battery voltage is sufficient, the alternator output voltage will be turned down to 12.5. For these vehicles charged to 13.6V using a multistage charger, the battery voltage quickly reduces from the 13.6 trickle charge to 12.5 while driving so I am not sure if multistage charging to 13.6V float voltage will make a difference in the long run.

The hibernation in the 986 is to prevent the flat battery.
It lasts easily double the time my WRX does before it goes flat.
I leave the frunk ajar when not being used so I can always get to the battery if it were to go flat.

A frunk your feeling is when you floor the loud pedal and find you don't have enough road...

I'm in a VW Arteon. It's basically an AWD Passat in sportback form, fitted with the engine of a Golf R.
Excited, too - as I'm days away from an APR Stage 1 ECU tune, taking it from 206kW / 350Nm > 268kW / 490Nm

Adding a pic, because not many know about this guy! (not my pic, but that's my exact ride).

Cheers,

I miss my mk6 golf R.
I'm in a VW troc, 140kW AWD. Bought back in June. Just clocked 1000km finally due to lockdowns

Next one definitely will be a VW electric whenever that is

Say goodbye to your DSG.....
There is a reason for the torque limiter in the Transmission control unit
Haha - we’ll see, soon enough! I’m told though that there’s still a fair amount of headroom for even the stock threshold(s).

A thousand years ago , a bright young engineer was demoing me his wrx, we did quite a few 0>60 runs in a few minutes.
It was quick.. so quick that it was less than two weeks old and back in for a clutch...
iirc Subaru quickly limited the number of warranty clutches you could claim...

IIRC you've mentioned that before, or someone has. :)

Or perhaps just not in dreamland like so many are at the moment. I’ve been watching a Jag F-Type on carsales. 2016 with under 5,000 km. It’s been there for ages, and its price has gone up from about $110k to around $155k. At that price you can pretty much get a new one, especially as the new V8 model pricing is less that that of the previous V6.

I had an R32, and I still miss that. I looked at the R a couple of times, but went with the S3. It’s now gone too, but I’d make space if I could find a nice enough R32.

humble apologies roger it was moi…I will just go hide in a corner somewhere…..

Started doing the same, although any issue usually came during late summer when it had been driven, and then forgotten about. During winter it pretty much lived with a trickle charger connected, although not always on. Mind you, in 11 years it had only done just shy of 11k and 3 sets of rubber 😂
