I’d expect 99% of the population would run into the first gutter that they tried to park it near.

I subsequently had an S3 and the R32 was a much more soulful vehicle. It had much better seats (Audi’s suck, even their ‘better’ ones), and even the ride was smoother. And the sound…well, you have to own an R32 to understand. From the research that I’ve done, the engine in the R32 isn’t a problem long term, though there are plenty of other VW issues, most of which are simple enough fixes. VW leather doesn’t seem to last though. Being a non turbo engine, it delivered what power it had in a lovely linear way, that as drivers of turbo cars we’ve mostly forgotten.

Just came back from a drive of the Land Rover Defender up at Thredbo. If they'd been around when I was looking to replace my Discovery, it would have been sure thing. Drove well on and off road.

Haven't got the Sapphire Cosworth yet, the auction house is notorious for long shipping times. Anyway I have now committed to buy this, it's in NZ, but that isn't an issue, hasn't been used for 10 years as a rally car, all I need now is a bigger garage, much bigger garage!
Hopefully NZ will get their act together so I can get over there.
Yes it's another Cosworth, but it's a V6, quad cam 24 valve engine.

I've always liked rally cars, I wasn't very good when I did rally, although my panel beater liked me.

Going to things like the Eifel Festival in Germany made me realise that would like to do something similar. There are a few things like this in Australia. It won't be in competition (with me driving anyway), more of a show thing.

Maxie is obsessed with MrsC, I don’t get much of a look in.

Don't even think it! We have people here with 3 or 4 cars - they usually rent space from owners who have a spare spot. Downstairs wanted one of ours but daughter uses it at the weekends. We know a couple of people who have cars off site - mostly ones they are doing up.

I am sure the divine Maxie loves you too.

Having seen the messy results of folks carking it with a sandpit full of toys , I am hoping to leave very little mess for others to mop up.. hopefully just the carcass and perhaps a little cash….

As our cars are 15 (2007 V6 VE Calais V) & 17 (2005 V6 WL Statesman) years old we had a casual look at the new Kia Sportage. My wife is desirous of a higher seat height. The version we were looking at was the GT Line and it is pretty impressive - although it should be for around $58K. The diesel engine is far more preferable with the 1.6 Turbo petrol feeling a little sluggish. Also the diesel has an 8 speed Torque Converter Auto while the petrol has a 7 speed dry clutch DCT which has received only middling reviews. There is plenty of get up and go in the diesel. However the steering is extremely light and takes a bit of getting used to. There is apparently a 7 month waiting list for them.

Interestingly, while the GT Line is very well equipped it lacks a few refinements that my 2007 VE Calais V has. While it has a 2 memory position drivers seat that is operated by a button on the door it does not remember the outside mirror positions, AC settings and radio settings like the Calais does. And the Calais's preferences are linked to two individual keys so no buttons need to be pushed. Also it is lacking a rear seat DVD player which would disappoint the grandkids - no animated films for them anymore. The other thing I really noticed, especially as a passenger, was the body roll. I have become too used to the Calais's FE2 sports suspension, even though it can be a bit firm, which does make the Calais handle pretty well for a big car.
