So... what car do you guys drive when not flying?

I get by in a 1983 Toyota Lite Ace. It's as tough a land cruiser and it being so old I'm never worried about getting any dings in it.

Dreaming of an Audi A6. Realistically next purchase most likely a Mazda 6.

FYR, the A8L was on special at $110k drive away(friends with dealer) hence the interest. Not normally in the market for such an expensive car.

Jesus man, at that price buy the A8L! $110k drive-away is less than half RRP drive-away... you'd be able to drive it for a couple of years and still sell it for more than you paid for it - and then buy the STi :)

The STi being over 60k i'd look at something else with better bang for your buck, maybe VW sirroco/Golf R, Bmw 135i, Merc A45.

Exactly what I was going to suggest (if Gold Member passes on the A8L) - specifically the Golf R. Brilliant car.

The Recaros are not that tight. I do feel the quailty of the impreza has gone down since the GD series (01-07) but the WRX is still a bargin at $39,990. The STi being over 60k i'd look at something else with better bang for your buck, maybe VW sirroco/Golf R, Bmw 135i, Merc A45. If you don't mind second hand B7 Audi RS4's are getting close to 60k.

Wife has the BMW 135i convertible and it is like lightning I used to have an M3 and its faster than that 0-100 in 4,5 or something !! Not that you need it but it's a lot of fun

Good Question,

We had one where I worked and it finally died at app 450 000km and it was 1996 or 1997 model.

It use to average app 45 000 to 50 000 km per year.

When we where going to trade it in they offered us nothing for it so we kept it in the fleet and bought a new van and it outlast the other one that was supposed to replace it.

It had hauled some big loads on some very long trips.

I took it from Mky to BNE with a full load and then back to MKY and then I got out of it and it went to CNS with another full load.

I hear ya man, I really do (or is that the rum n coke talking again?...) But the Bogan in me can't fathom names like Sirocco... The 135 has its merits, but its still a small car wanna be M3, plus I wouldn't fit in it. The second hand RS4 does interest me given its outright performance and 'luxury'. But, the new VF SSV gave me a hard on when the press release with photos came out a week ago. Might just wait for that instead  just a shame we have to pay $10k more than the same car exported to the US. Can't wait to see what HSV do the VF *drools in anticipation*

Golf GTI gen 6 had it for 3 years now, goes like a burnt boot (yup lots of demerits) handles well and is cheap to run, standard leather seats very comfortable, quite noticeable after a week away driving rental cars. Is practicable ie fits my road bike when I`m travelling around on business for rides before work.

135 is a great car, the wife has the convertible.

I used to have an M3 and I prefer to drive the 135 as it handles better due to the shorter wheelbase. It is smaller but goes like a rocket with the twin turbos, she took it up to 170km the other day on a supposedly police free stretch of road and it was still accelerating very quickly until I told her to stop!! I think it's limited at 249km

Now that I've moved to Europe. I have indulged and ordered a very nice Veyeron roadster. I've gone for matt black, like my SLS AMG, and the black carbon fibre trim highlights. I had liked the idea of buying one in Australia, however they were not able to be registered to drive there.

It's certainly not going to be my day to day car. But it will bring me a lot of pleasure as I drive on the Autostrada between my new place in Lake Como and around Europe.

I'll tweet a couple of pics when I go to Nurburgring to give it a good run.

Wife wants a new car she likes the look of the 3.0 Audi A5 fastback, I drove the smaller engine one in the UK and it was good. Does anyone have one? If so do you like it ?

Cancel that she wants a BMW 4 series will have to wait a few months to see what they look like

BTW she was looking at a 335 con $125k over here £42k over in UK wtf is going on thats about double the price!!! They use the line that they don't want to disadvantage their previous customers by reducing the price because of the exchange rate.

Well no one has a 4 series so lets have it at the same price as Europe!!

Dream on no chance :(

Transport costs and govt duty are the two big things they will blame for the cost difference

I'm not wearing the transport costs, luxury car tax yes but you can buy an Aston Martin with 500 miles on the clock in the UK for the cost of a BMW conv over here. And if you go to the USA M5 $107 k in Au $257k Porsche 911 $100k $250k in Au they can't explain that with transport costs

There is some huge differences in costs between countries.

I can not see why such huge differences.

Transport and LCT and Duty should not double the cost of any product between countries.

The usual excuse is Australia's car safety requirements along with the reseller network costing more in aus. But both are mainly convenient excuses...
