So... what car do you guys drive when not flying?

I am probably more of a frequent driver than a frequent flyer (so perhaps I am on the wrong forum!) I have a few cars. As my username implies, I have a Corvette (1988 convertible), I also have a series 3 RX-7 (which was a 50th birthday present from my wife), a 1980 Escort Van that has been in the family since new, a Chrysler 6.4L 300 SRT, one of the new V8 Mustangs and 3 shopping trolleys for the family to use. Unfortunately, my wife has said no more cars until I get rid of one.

I looked for ages trying to buy an Escort van when I lived in SYD but most were ex Sydney County Council as the organisation was called then. Wasn't going to buy one of those!

I probably regret not buying things I come across. For example, a one owner perfect condition Nissan Cedric Wagon. The owner had every scrap of paper imaginable to go with the car - brochures, magazine review, newspaper articles. He only wanted a couple of grand for it, mind you it was about 15 years ago.

A mate sold a Kombi Camper for $4000 a few years ago when he was desperate for cash. Not in perfect condition but it was his daily drive. Should have grabbed it.

Right now I'm looking for a Bridgestone 175cc. Wonder how many here know about it.

So how many kms on the clock do you guys turn over your personal vehicle's?
250k pushing it or higher?
We have a 2003 Subaru outback with 248,000 klm and still going strong, A 2007 Chrysler 300C diesel with 198,000 klm that drives like a new car and a 2016 Subaru Outback Diesel with 1130 kms on it. More than happy to drive any of them to anywhere though the older Subaru is a bit thirsty and the new Subaru has so many gadgets they I get confused.

Oh that is so tempting. So tempting.

But I will be nice. Just this once.

This is not quite on topic but I was thinking about rental cars and how some cars have every mod-con on them except one. I hired a Corolla the other day which had electric everything, reverse sensors, camera, cruise you name it BUT there was no automatic setting for headlights so you had to turn them off every time you got out of the car otherwise it would scream at you. This was a brand new car. I've had automatic headlights on my cars since the turn of the century. I wonder why they leave out this feature.

Maybe the headlights on a timer.........go off after 2 mins. Of course who wants to hang around to check out they go off.

Sold my car a few years ago and now use GoGet car sharing. Works perfectly for me as I live close to the city and catch the train to work. There is always a car within walking distance when I need it (I mainly use an Audi A3, or if that's not available I get a RAV4), and my annual spend with GoGet would be less than what I'd pay for insurance alone if I owned a car.

My wife's Mazda 3 has this 'feature'. It's annoying switching from a car with auto headlights to one without. Mind you, the model above ours has auto lights so it is just a spec thing to differentiate models I think.

Well that will be fun! Make sure you keep us updated on how you go!

Picked up our new Lexus NX 200t F Sport yesterday. First time with Lexus, very impressed thus far!

When I parked my Nissan Sentra hire car I had to pass so many luxury vehicles to get to my parking spot. The Rolls Royce immediately next to my rented one is so brand new it doesn't have a number plate. There are car models that are not even offered in Australia and several Teslas have charging power stations now. There is a Tesla shop 10 minutes from us when we are in Marina del Rey in California and the car there is half the Australian price.
