We have just done a bit of a bulk buy of cars for work/personal. We got a 2016 Tiguan TDI and a VW Golf... very economical on petrol and does what we need for our lifestyle. We had a Outlander and a CX9 Grand Tourer

Sold my old car in MEL and switched to renting. So far I'm loving it, this is what Hertz gave me last week :)

One of my customers do the hire car as they do a lot of FIFO and also they live close to public Tpt and if have no plans for the weekend or need the car during the week just hand it back in a sort it out when they need to go somewhere... Uber is also a option sometimes

So diesel is less CO2, but more other chemicals. I think Europe has generally had much higher diesel penetration than Oz

Yes in France over half of new cars are sold with Diesel engines. I guess they're not planning on driving to Paris.

We bought just before Xmas a 2017 VW Tiguan and it is a Turbo Diesel and file economy is on a good long high way run down around 5.4 to 5.6L per 100km...

We're a Tiguan TDI and Golf (wagon) family too...

^So will you get a VW fuel thingy cash back? Or did you just buy the most depreciated new cars possible due to the fuel scandal? Did you package/lease both or money to burn?

Well... up until yesterday I had a lovely Hyundai i30 Platinum bought new in 2014.... after a P-plater decided to run a red light I think I have a write off instead.

Looking at a new Kia Sportage, the Kia Cerato or another i30 to replace it... any other good ideas?

I have a VF Commodore SSV Wagon (company car). Really enjoy driving this vehicle. On the odd occasion, (when I'm allowed) I drive my wife's Q5. Very different vehicles and engineered in so many different ways.

The fuel scandal didn't worry me.., They are both 2017 models so all that should be sorted... They are both leased so as long as the residual is cover at the end don't care... we only have a low residual so it is like a savings plan for the next car... We made 5k on each car we traded after old residual payments made. We also purchased 2 cars as part of the deal... we got a good discount... App 10k overall. We wanted 2 cars and we are not car people so we had a choice of 2 or 3 manufactures of who's cars we wanted so we walked in and they did the deal in our budget. We got the Tiguan for pretty well the same price as the lower speced model. They didn't have the Tiguan we wanted in stock so they offered us a better deal to get the other car. We did walk at one stage but got a phone call and signed it and paid deposit and we had the 2 cars

Hertz have now decided that an SV6 is more than double the price of the "full size" Camry :(
So back to Avis I go.. driving a Calais... Resisted the temptation to hire the Mustang from Hertz yet when I picked up my Calais from the airport the car behind me was the Mustang!!
Maybe next time :) :)

Hertz are a rip off. Went from Avis to Hertz and then back to Avis. Usually book an SV6 and 90% of the time end up with a Calais or Statesman if they have them.

I've done the same thing... Interestingly when I booked with Avis the SV6 was more expensive than the Calais.. But yes I have had more upgrades with Avis than the zero I have had with Hertz..

Hertz pissed me off at some point last year so switched to Avis (amex 5 pts p/$ was the final trigger). They were ok but I wasn't overly impressed with their fleet. Their version of adrenaline cars is Hyundai Veloster... So back to Hertz this year and so far so good. They tend to play with Holden upgrades depends on what's available in the specific location.
Last two rentals got Holden Storm and Calais (both upgrades from Camry). The Storm was fun to drive.
