So... what car do you guys drive when not flying?

Mrscove bought me another Lexus 600hl which has just had its fifth birthday. Same vendor so I think it is the fourth or fifth he has pre-used and then sold onto me. He waited almost 2 years for his new Lexus 500 with twin turbos so I had to wait for his cast off.
All I have to do is fit a radar detector as I really like avoiding speeding tickets. The detectors are legal in WA.

Does that mean it was used before it was used?

I like old cars. My MG is 51 years old, needs to be coaxed into life on cold mornings, can be temperamental and is in need of a tune.
Unlike modern cars which only require you to steer them, this beast needs to be “driven”. No synchro in 1st, and no airbag ...... I love it :-)

My supplier gets the best deal on new Lexus vehicles so he usually upgrades faster than this time. When you buy this way (secondhand) you don’t get to pick the colour. It comes with all sorts of extras that I probably won’t use.

Recently purchased a new top of the line Kia Sportage petrol for Mrs Pegasus . Drives very nice & has all the bells & whistles one could for hope for . I drive an fg falcon one tonner , factory lpg . Does the job too

Steer? Is that a button?. Carburettor and manual choke, "Super" leaded petrol... Ahh those were the days.

I’ve never driven a gearbox with no synchro. What was your method when no synchro?

Do you drive it wearing an English tweed driving cap?

I do have a cheese cutter, however the issue with synchro is only in 1st gear, so it can be embarrassing when one tries to change down to 1st when approaching traffic lights or intersections :-)
Come to a complete stop or just change down to second, and keep the revs up

Showing my age .. driven a few cars , many trucks and a few dirt eaters ..all with no synchro.
It's just a learned skill, anyone can do it with a bit of practice.

This just appeared on a Touareg forum.. the owner lives in Brazil…...

the armored car looks exactly as a normal car.
The windows are a little thicker and you have kevlar pannels behind the metal and plastic trims.
It does not withstand a ak47 but it is safe for all the hand guns.

Except it seems, modern day Americans, who can’t even drive a manual gearbox.

Except it seems, modern day Americans…

I opine that the disease is endemic Internationally.. how many Aussies do you know who can drive a manual?
There used to be two licences , man and auto , is that still the case ?

You can learn in an auto. The P plates then are restricted to autos. However when you get the unrestricted, you can drive auto or manual.
But reality is that manual gearboxes are a niche product.

All our cars are autos. And 3 are automated clutch.

I often think id like an old car, but then I think of carbi's, dizzy', points and a range of regular chores they need and think I'm happy with my new one.

I have the old car BAM built in the late 30's, lucky it has no motor!

My next door neighbour has a number of cars with carburettors, etc. All of the character of old cars. That character is trebled when the carby happens to be attached to an Aston Martin.

Some of the Mercs can be tuned by the driver to emit different exhaust sounds

Not uncommon on 'sporty' cars, some after market exhausts even have a valve that can change the exhaust note by opening or closing via a mobile phone app!
