So... what car do you guys drive when not flying?

The standard DD will vary from Dealer to Dealer and from state to state. Average for a Touareg is probably $2,268.18 - $3,631.82 + GST. Most good dealers will be hovering around the $2,268.18 mark with a few even falling below that.

I would be aiming for the $7k discount in addition to the change in DD. I have read stories from guys online in various forums suggesting they got 14% - 17% discount off the RRP. That is bull. About $7K is the max. That will be including a few options added. If you are going for a standard 180TDI with no options they may not go to $7k.

To be honest if you are happy with the price you already have, and you are happy with the dealer then I would take the deal. I was in the industry for 8 years as a sales manager with Audi and VW and I would not waste my time shopping all over for the cheapest price. Sometimes relationships are more valuable than price.

I think you have a good deal so far. It is a beautiful car. Just make sure you order the Area View Package!

Rok - thanks again - you have been of great assistance to me.

I am very happy with the dealer - he has provided this pricing to me in writing (email) with little or no negotiation. I literally had a five minute chat to the salesman and he provided this pricing within a couple of days. I do not intend to shop for the price. Our company intranet is very clear on the BMW, Audi programs but unclear on VW program. I do not intend to shop for a better price with another dealer.

The next step is to organize a test drive for the vehicle for my wife (she's a week from giving birth) in Jan 2012. If my wife is happy with the vehicle - i will place an order, the vehicle will be BTO as I require AreaView (i have kids), Xenon/LED (i have had it in the last four vehicles i have owned:- Audi TT, two Audi A4's & Volvo XC60) & possibly DYNAUDIO.

Thanks again.

Dynaudio is a waste of time. There is stuff all difference between it and the standard system. Opt for the Drivers Assistance Package if the budget will stretch. Adaptive Cruise Control is the main feature and is worth it.

Each to their own though I guess.

There have been some issues re: the audio quality of the RNS850 audio system (standard) on the Touareg --> RNS 850 Poor sound quality

I was hoping the Dynaudio option would overcomes these issues. I will look into the Drivers Assistance package.

I have a black 2012 Ford Focus Sport (tdci w/ Powershift gearbox) and custom DA-22-ER number plates!

Doesn't compare to Bossregie's garage, but it's a start!

Take everything from that website with a pinch of salt. I have found over the years that it consists of mostly two categories. whinging pomms and one other nationality who love European cars but are unwilling to pay for them.

Everybody on that forum LOVES to moan and whinge about every single noise, rattle and "Perceived" imperfection instead of just enjoying their car. For the most part the complaints about the RNS850 comes when people try to modify it by adding aftermarket sound systems and DVD Players. Take strong note, the RNS850 is the only entertainment system on a VW that runs fully Fiber Optic. The only modification that can be done electronically to a new Touareg is a Tow Bar, and even that is causing massive problems so far.

Honestly, The Dynaudio is not worth it, but your decision either way mate.

A bit like this forum....

Thanks again - I will option up the drivers assistance package instead.

I like them but feel they should be 4WD to handle all that power. The power to weight ratio is insane.

Lots of fun though.

Mmm. I think the only car faster in the current Australian Merc lineup is the SLS at 3.8s to 100Km/Hr

Honda Odyssey. I spend my money on lots of overseas travel rather than a car that matches the mum brigade.

Ema we hired your Honda in California and it worked really well with the crowd I had on board.

Thinking about getting a Euro car this year, either a BMW 328 or MB C 250CDI. Decisions, decisions... happy for any thoughts.
Leaning towards the BMW 328, but manual or automatic ? - have always driven manual cars, love the joy of being able to shift through the gears! Seems most BMWs sold are autos.. not sure how the resale of a manual would go

It would be horrendous at best. Stick with the Auto. Modern auto's such as Dual Shift boxes are quicker and more efficient than an auto and IMO provide a nicer drive. Down to your individual preference though. I don't think they sell the Merc 250CDI in a Manual here so if you want man in might have to be the Beemer.

Maybe look at an Audi A4 3.0TFSI if you want a really nice car. ;)

The Merc is good value by Australian standards. Drives nicely. Agree stay with auto for that sort of car.
Actually today just bought an XC60 Volvo for the OH which has lots of bells and whistles for the money. Am not a great fan of the Volvo handling though.

The Landy (with my wife's personalised plates, but not any more)

But if I want to do some very low-level flying I use this:

Yes, that's my actual one (even though it's the dealer photo), just before I bought it. It's not quite that clean any more....

2011 C63 AMG, this car should be illegal LOL

Estate, Sedan or Coupe?

My wife bought the estate last year - optioned with the performance pack. Absolute ripper of a car - not too big, very understated appearance and a hoot to drive. In October she pulled the baby seat out of the back, whacked some stickers on it and entered the Temora 1000 sprint (standing km event out at the Temora, NSW airstrip). Came home with 2 trophies.

Two nice choices! Are you referring to the newly released 328 with the turbo motor? That engine is supposed to be a cracker!

I don't think either of those cars are available with manual in Australia. If they are, it would be special order only, so you may have to wait a long time!

If the C250CDI uses the same 7 speed automatic as the C200CGI, they aren't that great. Awful manual mode and sport mode in auto isn't sporty - it doesn't hold gears well, doesn't change down under brakes, etc. One of the worst modern autos, albeit an improvement on the even worse 5 speed auto it recently replaced.

By contrast, the new 328 uses an 8 speed auto, which I don't know all that much about, but believe is pretty good. The current/old 328 uses a 6 speed GM auto, which is similar to the one used in the current Commodore - it's a decent auto in the Commodore (in sport mode holds gears, changes down under brakes going downhill, etc.), so I see no reason why it wouldn't be in the 328.

328 will handle better than the Merc, but the Merc probably has a better interior (excluding the artico, fake leather).
