Spice bar at Melbourne Qantas Domestic Business Lounge

This may have been mentioned before, but does anyone know what time the Spice Bar opens in Melbourne? I'm almost always there in the afternoons weekdays, but will be there Monday mid morning next week.

Not that I’m aware of, no. I thought exactly the same- hope this is not the “new standard”

Different vegetarian offering yesterday. The meat looked frazzled. Had the Laksa and tofu. Very nice. But not enough tofu.

Yesterdays was interesting. Vego option pretty standard tofu laksa but the meat option was a pork mince with 'crispy chow mein' and chilli sauce. It was bang average and I would not go near it in future... Just seemed like a very basic meal compared to the regular options and the texture was pretty bad.

I went to the lounge in April on a Friday afternoon around 4pm and there was no hot food - just mainly deli based items - ie. ham, salads, bread etc.

I might have missed out / it wasn't running that day oddly.

Was the SB open? It should have been.

Earlier this year they have statted a disappointing trend of removing the non-SB hot offerings after lunchtime (going to guess 2pmish) and not bringing them back til say 5:30-6pm or so.. but I have noted the SB stays open.

I think it's poor they've decided on this change.

I was in the MEL J lounge on Tuesday 6 August 2024 and everything was up and running, though the buffet seemed limited-- no beetroot, but there was mayo.

Beef and vegetable dumplings with some angel hair kind of noodles atm.

I was more impressed finding two bottles of Wynns Coonawarra 2019 Old Vines Shiraz in amongst the reds

Tbh I enjoyed the dumplings for what they were, but such a small serve on the bowl of two dumplings and small amount of soup/broth with the noodles.

I would note the hot buffet had these delicious roast potatoes that I may have had a few of

I wish they would serve the wonton from Singapore F entree. Those are actually delicious and shouldn't be that hard to make (or cost).

A bit late replying to this but I agree. This is my most frequent visit time and it’s not ideal as onboard is usually the ploughmans plate which essentially replicates what’s available in the lounge. It seems 3pm is around the cutoff

Today in MEL had some pizza type things and sausage rolls in addition pork and rice and mushrooms and noodles at the SB

I had the unfortunate experience of having the falafel bagel a week ago, I had one bite was the driest most flavorless thing. PER and BNE J lounge have done much better varieties lately with tuna and smoked salmon respectively and tasted great.

A fail. This was just after 12 and they had just opened. Pork was dry and tge only thing with taste was tge kimchi. One of the more disappointing options.

A side note. The otger hot buffet options seemed to be a curry and chicken ruce, but the only thing that was full had sausage rolls. Now, they were quite decent for sausage rolls, but .. at lunch time? I expect that as a 3pm-4pm snack. It just struck me as odd.
