SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

To be honest though I do not understand the commotion. The T2 F lounge is not that different to the SilverKris lounges. It is not like the difference between SYD QF F lounge and QF business lounge. Can't quite understand why SQ would want to guard the F lounge like a fortress.

The flagship lounge is in T3. That one is nicer than its business class counterpart. But still not a patch on the QF F lounges.

It's mainly guarded to keep the numbers down. The business class lounges can get very full.

So we had our debut business class long haul nearly a week ago.... Champagne, sleep, good food for airplane. Would be very happy to fly this product every time.

Our debut suites class flight is in a few more weeks.. and is day flights as opposed to red-eye flights we did in business class Mel-Zrh.

I want to make sure we make the most of it, as it will be the last time in SQ business/suites for a long time.

- Singapore bears
- Krug/Dom
- private room
- souvanier entry to TPR (is this from the first lounge desk in SG?)

Anything else a newbie should be aware of?

tizey if you are dep ZRH they will hand you your TPR Invitations at checkin - if somehow for some reason they do not ask for them when you enter TPR and they will arrange them for you - your R/F BPs will get you into TPR in SIN.

I am looking at a trip for my wife and 2 kids (older than 2 yo) to Tokyo from Sydney. Just wondering whether SQ ever release 4 first/suite class award seats on the same flight, if I put it in waitlist?

Will totally depend on route - most routes where award inventory is released it usually is 2 x R or F seats - can be Saver / Standard or Full. Yes 99.99% will take the Saver - certain days on some routes like FRA-JFK vv and SIN-HKG vv no award inventory released initially and comm bookings monitored. Other routes with consistently lower loading might have another seat or even 2 open up - but absolutely no guarantee.

If you want to pay Full rates and you WL you will almost definitely get it to confirm close to flt date if not sold - but that is not much help is it. I am certainly no expert here as I have never booked >2 rdpts in any class - KF call Ctr staff really have no idea either on availability of rdpt inventory - they can see nothing relating to future possibilities on their screens - they can see YAY or NAY at any given time.

Christmas present upgrades were done and recipients were very excited. We used some KF Miles because we could. Had to go Standard but that was ok to give them a treat seeing Saver was gone.

I also got a Christmas present from SQ - an operational upgrade from J to F!

First time for me with SQ. Was very much appreciated.

Good get Comoman - very rare indeed. I have only ever copped one in my life - on 747 SIN-MEL years ago - I accidentally bumped into a very good mate in SKL J T3 prior to flt - his factory was in same complex as mine here in MEL - I had no idea he was going to be on that flt - he had comm J tix and I had rdpt J tix - I was Gold Elite at that stage he had zero status - I copped upgrade and he is still spitting chips 10 years on.

First word crew muttered in F cabin was 'Our apologies but no Krug loaded for this flt - will Dom be ok?' Still tickles my fancy and does make me giggle.

Can confirm that I have had 3 J savers in the past (a few times actually). 2 Booked straight away and 1 on waitlist that cleared a week before travel. Data point for travel from Melb though. I understand this (3X J savers) is also getting harder to get by - probably because a lot of people now travel SQ due to Velocity transfers.

So these days, if we all have to travel together - either the wife or me in F saver and the other 2 in J savers. In fact, the last time - I even swapped my F to J after boarding the plane as it has few empty J seats.

Here we go again....mixed award saver....PER-SIN-NRT... J to SIN then F to NRT zone 8 -zone 7...pay highest class F fully understand 70k...Just been on phone 1/2 hour insisting that amount is the total of 2 individual legs ie 92.5k....

Asked very professionally to check with supervisor as I believe award chart figures should prevail....

"No need sir! the system tells me 92.5k" I advised him I have 6 bookings on my profile for the next 5 months all booked at the rates according to the award saver chart....."Can't help Sir".....

Maybe for Cruiser E ? This has been discussed over and over I know, but are you aware of any recent changes for mixed class or do I simply hang up and ring again....

Thanks in anticipation....

HUACA- or at least insist on supervisor else wasting your time- not your fault but is their culture to do it by 'the book'

Another question, what time and date each day does SQ release their seats? I am looking to book as soon as possible as SYD-TYO would be a very popular route.

Timing of release of award inventory not set in stone kam - rule of thumb 353 days out - actual release date and time of day of release varies route to route.

Choose the route you want - check out 353 days - that might be 1-3 days shy - just monitor daily.

just had another 40minutes with Singapore Airlines and politely asked for rep to check quoted miles with supervisor....
came back with "award chart is only for if flights are one class, and mixed redemptions are priced at the rates for individual sectors...ie 32500k and 60000k not the 70000k shown on chart...

Where should I and the rest of AFF mixed redemption people go from here?
I've never booked Business when First is available with Singapore Airlines, but it just might be easier to do the whole thing in J on-line and save the hassle.....

But AFF's don't like giving up !!!!

Refer them to the redemption tables here: https://www.singaporeair.com/saar5/pdf/ppsclub_krisflyer/charts/SQMI_OneWayAwardCharts.pdf

at the end of the first page is the following wording (6th bullet point under 'General Notes'):

Singapore Airlines Suites and First Class are only available on selected Singapore Airlines flights. Silk Air does not have a Suites/First Class cabin. Business Class seats will be allocated to members who redeem their miles for Singapore Airlines Suites and/or First Class on Singapore Airlines flights which do not have a Singapore Airlines Suites/First Class cabin. The number of miles required forthe entire trip may be determined at the redemption level of the highest class of service flown. Please check the classes available on the flight before makinga redemption.

My bolding of the relevant text.

Thank you for replying.....I referred them to the award saver chart and to the clause you mentioned... they pointed out to me the last bullet point "Milage indicated is only valid for non-stop flights(no connections or transits between two destinations)
I know in practice this has never been relied upon and always charged at the highest class for the mixed journey...do I ask for supervisor's supervisor!!

Ummm - no. That doesn't make sense! By the very set up of the chart, it lists awards which cross zones, and you read across to get the desired 'from' and 'to' zones.

You cannot for example fly from Australia to Europe non-stop without a connection in Singapore. Or just about anywhere else (with the exception of CBR-WLG). So by the very nature of the chart they are under a mistaken impression.
