SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

agree dec540... most airlines recognise the 'paid F but had to fly J' by having connecting rules and inbound flight rules that say if you are connecting same day, or by 6am the next morning, or connecting long haul to short haul (etc etc) you will be entitled to the privileges of the highest class paid.

The stopover is where it differs between SQ and other airlines. I'm not suggesting SQ is wrong to offer this benefit, just that it is generous compared to other airlines (and nothing wrong with that).

I'm pretty sure arriving qantas first class and connecting to business class three days later to New Zealand doesn't get me the F class lounge in sydney or Melbourne. I'm relegated to the business class lounge, even though I might have paid the higher F class redemption.

If you connect three days later then it will price as two separate awards anyway, the first in F, the second in J.

This whole tangent is pretty freakin' pointless.

Perhaps on a round the world redemption where you have redeemed F miles and travel in business class for some sectors.

on SQ, but think he was referring to Mel's eg.

surely we've done this to death now - can we move onto something else?
Oh apologies to junbugging if that is the case - and no I don't think it is done to death as OP was only posting their experience to alert others and unless I have missed something we still see no complete explanation.

Eldest daughter was supposed to be arriving home tonight but allowing for bad weather, a 6 hour transit in JFK from YYZ ended up an hour or so too short so now arriving home tomorrow night on CX.
Amazed to find cancelling the SQ booking a few hours or so from take off and after online checkin only incurred a US$105 total charge with full refund of points. Funnily enough SQ25 was not delayed so glad we decided not to roll the dice on taking the connecting flight from YYZ.

Just reporting back after our MEL-SIN leg in J... Currently in Aerotel hotel for a few hours of rest before exploring Singapore for a few hours this arvo and then getting SIN-ZRH at 1am tomorrow.

Mrs tizey flew incredibly well and didn't end up speaking to the attendant about her anxiety as was very much so under control. . Had a few bites of the food, but the rice with chicken was waaaay too spicy for her, but the attendant sorted her out with some fresh fruit and brekky pastries. Champas on boarding had a lot to do with helping, and being able to get some proper sleep in J was great. Thank you everyone who gave advice - I felt good having a bit of a plan of attack to try and provide assistance.

I still cannot get over the width of the seat. It's bloody huge! Looking forward to a bit more leg room in the bulkhead on the next flight (row 11 on the a380), so the full width legrest as opposed to footwell.. I'm just on 6 foot, and I felt another inch or so would have me in absolute comfort - stretched out I was slightly cramped... Which Mrs tizey repeated back to me complaining about flying J... Yes yes, First World problems.

Service was excellent, cabin was quite warm, borderline too warm, but given it was an overnight flight, probably helped with getting everyone to nod off.

I have been actively chasing points for the last 6months - and all that work has been proven worthwhile for future trips. Even Mrs tizey agreed that the mucking around with credit cards and amex has been worth it, and I have copped quite a lot of flack about the churn of credit cards!

Given how comfortable SQ J was, I cannot wait to experience SQ Suites on the way home.

We have had nothing but fantastic flights with SQ so far.....

....but they have severely dented my wife's brand new luggage. It was only the Aldi Flyerlite polycarbonate so I am not too worried, however this will be a good test to see how they handle the issue prior to our next SQ flight which is our Suites flight home.

I am glad she talked me out of spending the money on a Samsonite or Rimowa like I really wanted.

Report it asap as you get it at the luggage terminal and it will be fixed / replaced free of charge. Sq are one of the best airlines in paying for it.

Ive had multiple issues with samsonite wheels getting pulled off... never buy samsonite again. I think they updated the wheel design now.

Getting a good suitcase/expensive suitcase to me is well worth it. Just have travel insurance and report mishandling at the baggage terminal and you wont have any issues.

Always buy suitcases that can fit the one size smaller suitcase inside so you can depart with 1 and come back with 2.

Thanks for the info.

Already reported and required info supplied to SQ. It was late at night and we really needed to hit the sack when we landed so emailed SQ the morning after.

Received a reply within 24 hours requesting Passport, Boarding Pass & Luggage details.

OT but I have a crook wheel on my Samsonite, so I emailed them to ask if I can buy one. That was over a month ago and no reply. Do you happen to recall what the Samsonite warranty is? My case is not quite 2 years old.

either 7 or 10 for structural integrity... dunno about wheels and stuff, but should be more than 2 years. Aussie consumer law overrides any warranty to the extent you'd expect a product to reasonably last.

It's annoying how companies can fight over it based on "reasonably last" and what is reasonable. eg. Samsung tried to tell me a 72" $8,000 tv lasted a reasonable amount of time when it broke at 3 years old

When having these discussions with companies it's often a good idea to bypass customer service and ask them to forward your matter direct to the legal department. Legal is generally across consumer protect law and will authorise repairs which might otherwise be rejected.

I've emailed them about their shoddy wheel design for the firelite and cosmolite range and never received a reply. I have 8 medium to large samsonite firelite/cosmolite in total (big family). They are the worst.
Your best recourse is to use it and claim it from an airline. Or just fork out the dough by contacting an authorised repairer. The one in sydney is in mascot.. Sydney luggage centre or something close to it, next to hong ha hot bread.
Anyway next time I'm buying rimowa, using discounted myer giftcards and trs it shouldn't be too painful on my wallet.
