SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

1. There has been a significant surge in calls from disgruntled pax post the rdpt overhaul - overwhelming majority of calls has been from genuine loyal 'bum-in-seat' pts earning pax who feel they are copping it the neck - all calls are recorded and SQ Mgmt are reviewing them closely.

There might be a couple of options with this... one not so good. SQ might decide to keep their BIS customers happy by continuing to make a 15% discount available to them (based on status. Would be an ok option for the rest of us), or... they might decide to apply the new award levels for F but restrict those to their elites (like LH/LX/OS does).

Or both :(

Yep no idea what might happen going forward MEL - either way we will just need to roll with the punches.

So as an SQ nobody with enough points for 2 x 2 x AU-EU rtn suite redemptions, what's the advice. We were planning on using them for a 2019 holiday to Europe, but we are in a situation where we can bring the plans forward.

Yes CE we just adapt to the new rules and keep on running. We have a run to Los Angeles this month and it is all 777. Same delightful SQ service but no Suite.

I don't think there is anything ATM. SQ may 'listen' to the feedback and make no changes. Or the changes could be minimal (still offer 15% for elites). The worst case scenario, restricting F class only to elites would be a big step. But then again... SQ doesn't make their premium F/J awards available outside Krisflyer as it is. So not a quantum leap.

Mid Feb the SIN-PEK sector cleared and I had until until 12:00 SIN time on Feb 18 to confirm. I asked Mia to shake the trees to see if we could get MEL-SIN to clear also but it wouldn't. I logged in at 8am or so on 18th which was still 4hrs pre TTL to confirm but available flt already disappeared just like TTL had expired.

I called Mia next morn and she imm contacted back end boys to get it re-instated. For some reason they seem uninterested in accepting flt disappeared pre a TTL and indeed yield mgmt take a very unsympathetic view of pax not adhering to TTL and later seeking to WL same flts which was not exactly what happened to me.
What does TTL mean?

Just stick with original plans - this is a change but it isn't life threatening - what are you going to do?

What does TTL mean?
TTL = Ticketing Time Limit - if a waitlist clears you have until a specific time on a certain date to confirm your flights either online or over phone - if you don't confirm prior to expiration of TTL then you cleared flts disappear into the wild blue yonder.

According to the advice of many here, you could book now for late February 2018 (or a little bit later for March 2018) and then call say six months later to change the dates to summer 2018 with no recalculation of the miles required.

19. All award tickets are valid for twelve months from the date of the first flight as ticketed, unless otherwise specified.

Edited: may give to end of Feb 2109? (see following posts)

Should give, in theory, to the end of August 2018?

I would have thought you could push it out as far as March 2019, I'm not sure where the August 2018 comes into it.

But this would have to be a date change only, and there's still no iron-clad guarantee that they won't try to enforce the higher points upon any sort of change beyond March 23 or whenever D-day is.

What am I going to do?? I'm not sure. All I really wanted was an entry stamp into the mile high club and talk of SQ doing away with suites (or reducing them dramatically) was a concern previously. Now talk of them perhaps limiting redemptions for them to SQ elites (which I clearly am not, nor likely to be in the foreseeable future) has now got me thinking that it may be time to act.

No - I don't know either! It could either be 12 months from the date of the first flight, otherwise you'd need to re-ticket. That would be at the new prices. Or you could change dates anytime within the 12 months and extend for another 12.

I suspect it will be the former given the comments to this article: Our take on KrisFlyer award pricing changes March 2017 - Point Hacks

It's all speculation. But if BIS pax are unhappy SQ may want to protect that. If you can book now, no harm in doing it. The cancellation is pretty cheap.

It's always a gamble thinking so far ahead... In addition to these SQ changes, I've also had longer-term plans thwarted by JAL getting rid of F on SYD-NRT and NRT-CGK, or by something as small as LH cutting a TOS flight. Best to just book what you can while you can or accept the new normal and move on to the next phase of planning and scheming.

I think you two are on to something here. I think I'll look to book regardless. We had no concrete plans so are completely open with dates and destinations.

You lot are a bad/good example. Just got straight through and spoke to very efficient nice person. Could only WL x 2. R/Suites for SYD - SIN, and suites for SIN - FRA-JFK.

IF it clears will be 15% fewer points, but needs to clear by 23 March. I hope I get the one that's 23.5 hours in SIN o/night.
