SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I find this usually works:

You: Hello Mr/Ms Agent - if I give you a Booking Reference number could you please pull that up for me?
Agent: Certainly just hold the line while I pull that up for you - OK I see your booking - what can I do for you?
You: Could you please send off a chaser to see if we can get this WL cleared please?
Agent: No problem - that would be my pleasure - OK chaser sent off - is there anything else I can do for you?
You: No that is all for now thanks.

Nice and straight forward?

You're a smooth talkin' cough Cruiser...;)

Well I have never done this so I had better start sometime. It's just that I like to have certainty in my plans.

cove just nothing like sittin' up in a dodgy bar in some Shanghai backstreet with a cold Qingdao in one hand and a gasper in the other hopin' one of your WLs might just clear over the next day or so so you can fly home! Keeps you young covey - keeps you young.

And strange isn't how the darl' sittin' back home just don't understand how this fickle WL procedure works!

CE I gave up on piano bar girls as one chased me back to my room in China. Lucky I had the door locked.
Meanwhile Mrscove seeks certainty of plans when it comes to bookings that involve the two of us.

Waitlisting question for those in the know. We are currently booked on SQ238 MEL - SIN with a long layover waiting for SQ336 to CDG. I want to waitlist us on the afternoon flight to SIN (SQ228). Do I need to waitlist the full booking MEL-CDG or can I just waitlist the 1st leg and swap if it comes through?

Yes call KF and just ask them add 228 WL to your ticketed booking and if it clears easy to sub the sector at no pts or $ penalty before or after the changes to rdpt rates.

In Feb 18, I have SYD - SIN (confirmed), SIN - FRA, FRA - JFK both WL. Is it a good idea to separate these sectors and pay for SYD-SIN at the existing cheaper rate and risk a cancellation fee if no WL clears, or should I leave it all on hold, any other advantages/disadvantages? I have 2 x WL, but prefer the one w' 23.5 hours in SIN.

Impossible to answer gmoh - only you know your potential alts if WL doesn't clear - I fear this is one you will need to work out yourself.

Re 218 equip change 380 down to 350 for May / June - received this o/n:

Dear Mr. Elite,

This is a courtesy email to follow-up on the telephone conversation regarding the aircraft change on your flight SQ218 from Melbourne to Singapore.

May we request you to please collect your one-way upgrade voucher for future travel from business class to first class on a Melbourne to Singapore flight. This will be made available to you on the day of departure at the Singapore Airlines service desk at Melbourne International Airport.

We apologize once again for the inconvenience caused and looking forward to welcoming you onboard.

Regards,

Fatima

Add the 35K KF pts I received per pax and all of a sudden equip change not such a disaster after all.

Quick question for the SQ gurus.

Made a booking direct with SQ - all good. Needed to change the return date. Did so, paid the change fee and printed off new tickets. Just noticed that the return date is showing as the new return date (ie 4 April), however the 'Not Valid After' date is still showing as 28 March.

Is this going to be an issue? Haven't come across it before......

Thanks so much in advance.

Cheers, Suz

I have a question with award bookings:
I'm looking at MEL-DPS return and MEL-DPS/DPS-MEL OW to fly out of MEL on 05/06/14 and then land back in MEL on 15/04/16.
The availabilities for MEL-DPS RET don't show SQ208 (A350) for MEL-DPS leg but does show SQ207 for DPS-MEL leg. However when searching MEL-DPS OW it will show sq308 available to redeem seats.

Why does it block out SQ208 when doing return award bookings for MEL-DPS?

I'm looking to do a stopover in SIN for a couple days on the way home and hence want to try and book a return award booking to get the free stopover rather than book 2 OW and pay for the stopover.

Good to see this post. I'll be interested to see if we get the same response. We are on a paid fare so chose to move from the 380 (SQ 217) to an overnight 777 back from SIN (SQ 237). After some advice on this forum, I wrote a polite letter to the SQ PPS Co-ord in MEL asking if they would consider some points compensation for the reduction from R to F and less overnight catering. The note has been forwarded to Customer Relations so waiting on outcome. I'll let you know how I go.

I was looking at SIN-SYD and just noticed they do codeshare with Virgin SIN-SYD-MEL on SQ231 (a380), SQ241 (777), SQ221 (a380). Not sure if it's been discussed before or if it's a normal routing option but seems like a good alternative if there's no available award seats direct to MEL if you really want to fly the A380. You'll have to search up SIN-MEL as Economy to see the routes.

I note there is an exception in the Velocity terms and conditions that you can redeem codeshare flights as 'specified by Velocity'... is this one one of those situations?

I did a mock Y award booking for SIN-MEL and couldn't see the codeshare flights via SYD. Guess this question is for a call centre operator/supervisor as to whether you can book it on KF miles or not unless someone has already done this booking before.

Codeshare flights are almost always excluded from award reservations. There are some exceptions... like QF's services to ICN and SGN. If booking through Velocity shouldn't be an issue (they'd book you on the VA code). SQ i don't think does codeshares (happy to be wrong!)
