SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

has anyone done a RTW with SQ that includes a MLE stop? it's pretty obvious backtracking, but given they don't offer any other options it may be allowed? trying to piece together a nice little trip for honeymoon next year.

cheers

When I was planning my Honeymoon a few years ago I couldn't get MLE to work on the Star Alliance RTW planner at all. A lot has changed though in the last couple of years.

I ended up doing OW RTW with SQ rewards flights SIN-MLE-SIN... Availability in J is usually easy.

Good luck!

did you use SQ miles? mind sharing the routing/ airlines used?

wondering if i can get a cheeky FRA-USA flight on LH in there somehow.

A number of threads started / still running re BTC. Now I fully understand and encourage SQ F or J pax to try BTC - if there is some dish you particularly like or would particularly like to try - like Lobster Thermidor which is going to make your pointy end experience on SQ sound just so exotic - then go for it - select and enjoy.

Personally I rarely BTC - I am allergic to crustaceans to the lobster / king crab or whatever will never excite me. I usually find standard fare more than acceptable so just go with what is on offer. One exception to this is early morning flts ex SIN - if I have eaten brekky in TPR the last think I want is to then be offered another brekky on board - so these are the times I will BTC and request latest possible serving during flt.

On Feb 3 I took SQ238 MEL-SIN then o/n in SIN then R on 802 SIN-PEK. The meal service on 238 was equal to best of any meal I have ever had on SQ or any other carrier if not the best - total package was just superb - only improvement could have been reinstatement of RWT - but overall just superb.

Just thought I might post complete F menu from that flt - firstly don't you just love the abstract image of Pamela Anderson on front cover of menu:

And now to the food offerings:

FTR - I had the lamb rack - my god it was superb - if I had that dished up to me in any restaurant in the world I would ve a happy camper! Continued:

Now I fully understand not all pax need to soak up alcohol like there is no tomorrow and so do SQ - they have extensive non-alcohol offerings for pax:

Now if you were still hungry or thirsty after that lot well I think there is just no helping you!

As I stated and as you can see the RWT is no longer listed or indeed stocked - now whilst the 2012 Tuesner Albert Shiraz is drinkable - at $37/bott from Dan's it's hardly top shelf - indeed in Dec flying out of PEK RWT was listed but not on board - they served St Hallets Blackwell Shiraz which is $30/bott at Dan's - I usually try the French reds also but seldom do to they knock my socks off.

I will be sending off a not to SA feedback expressing my dissatisfaction with the quality of Australian red offerings - surely they can do better than this.

Do love an Ovaltine drink on SQ or a hot milo on MH... One day I'll get stuck into the alcohol on the premium cabins. :)

The selection of beer is just thrilling ;)
Probably more than enough - TBH - have never ever seen anybody drinking beer in SQ F.

Let me think about that - Krug - any beer brewed in the world - Krug - any beer brewed in the world - Krug - ok I'll have a Krug thanks.

I'm more of a champs drinker usually on premium cabins and delighted that Krug is available. Never got to like Dom though, not sure if it's just me but I find it too tart and acidic. But I've only had Dom twice so could be just 2 average bottles.

The refurb of TPR has been delayed again - previously slated to start Mar it will now be later in year start if then - staff told me they 'hoped' we might get completion in 2015 but don't hold your breath.

No plans now for sleeping / nap / resting rooms now - read refurb as more of a makeover than any great structural changes - again staff informed me refurb basically to give TPR more of a luxurious feel than present.

Info as supplied by lounge staff who openly admit flow of info to them is patchy - I guess fullness of time will reveal all.

Is SQ218 MEL-SIN (the midnight departure) changing from a 77W to a 777-300 in the next few months? I thought this was always either a 77W (or used to be an A380?!)

Flight mapper says no, SQ.com and VA.com say yes.

In other news.....:

Daily 00:05 Melbourne (MEL) 2 06:00 Singapore (SIN)
SQ 218 Non-stop Airbus A380 (388) 7:55 Effective from 2015-09-25

Hmmm my regular flight.

Might need to find a new way to SIN until that A380 appears. Oh happy days.

My two sons enjoy Changi business lounge for the cold Tiger beer. They can go to TPR but think beer on tap is really sweet.

cove tell them to park their a*ses at the bar in the F lounge and have a chat to the barman whilst downing a coldie or 2 - staff will even go through kitchen to get a tap beer for them - the barmen there are really good guys.
