SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Would you not be best doing a CPH-SIN-MEL redemption with a stopover in SIN for $100? And sorting out SIN-HKT separately - either point or paid?

By the time I add the extra cost of the infant by having to book through SQ and pay for 3 fares HKT-SIN-HKT it is much of a muchness really to have the business class locked in for all flights making life easy.

Great trip on sq221 on 30/12. Our 10mo son was able to sleep in the middle with us with the infant seat belt on.

We padded the divider with extra quilts to level it out with the seat.

Staff were lovely as usual and helped heaps

Both seats can get you the Krug, the caviar with icy Vodka and the French red for your sleep. I usually would go 2F unless Mrscove wants it. Of course 1F can be made up for your bed if it is not taken. Coming to London we both used two Suites which works out great.

Ha!

"Two eff, or not Two eff?", That is the question!

Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer The One eff of outrageous fortune, Or to take choice amongst a sea of suites, And by so selecting, enjoy them?

With apologies to W. Shakespeare

Yes serfty very poetic. Kris Miles at their finest. We will do the A side inside a week.
I won’t need to go thru Singapore immigration this time as we are just transiting thru to Perth.
Will be updating my passport when I get back as I have lots of trips in 2018.
GMOH just ask nicely for a spare Suite if there are spares. I have never figured the bed back to seat and with the changes coming we may never need to think it out.

I had 1A the night before last 'just cos' and agree with MT that row 1 is a bit removed.

Row 2 has the advantage of having your bed across the aisle, space permitting.

Oh, only two of us in the cabin so service was understandably fabulous.

Thanks to MEL_Traveller for pointing out the 3 windows. Jessica Tam, and hopefully, the suite across the aisle will be free for making up a bed.

Below are my options as I see it (this is as much for me to breakdown to make a decision!), happy for anyone to pick holes or suggest a better idea.

Option 1 as suggested:
CPH-SIN-MEL = 105,000 SQ Miles = 141,750 VA Points
Taxes approx $65 + $130 stopover fee = $200 = $400 total
Infant cost estimated $600
Side Trip SIN-HKT-SIN = $300-$400 for 2 adults and 1 infant in economy

Total cost (2A 1I) = 283,500 points + $1400

Option 2:
CPH-SIN-HKT = 92,000 VA Points
Taxes approx $80 = $160 total
Infant cost zero

HKT-SIN-MEL = 65,000 VA Points
Taxes approx $80 = $160 total
Infant cost zero

Total cost (2A 1I) = 314,000 points + $320

Points difference = 30,500
Dollars difference = -$1100
Cents per point = 3.6 cents which seems pretty good.

So the question is 30,500 points worth $1100? And it then means no separate tickets and all of it in business class instead of the side trip being in economy.

Option two seems the preferred option and I'd be taking that. 30K points to save $1100 and have all flights in business class seems a good deal.

For sure - I had expected two trips to cost a lot more than the single, but for 30k points difference I'd take option 2. One credit card application and small annual fee easily replaces those points for a lot less than $1100.

Okay...only issue...availability is there on SQ website but I can't seem to book it through Velocity, bugger. Life was much easier without the infant, I would just transfer the points and book direct with SQ!
