SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

SQ917 MNL-SIN today in F. No krug, no amenities, no caviar, no book the cook, and tv screen looked like a subway train window it was so scratched and knocked about. Didn't stir a fuss as was quite sad to be leaving PH so just sat quietly and sipped the 06 Dom, reflecting on an amazing fortnight in northern Palawan.

The in flight manager said it was because it was a short intra Asia flight?

Currently in TPR, no krug in here - Dom 2006.

OT but where did you stay in Palawan? Looking at heading over near there next year.

Sounds like your F flight was pretty average though!

I've often been the only one in there. You must fly at popular times!

Ditto for me. Heretical thought: why don't they restore the privilege of F lounge access for PPS members? It would ease the pressure on J lounges and make the F lounges less of a ghost town!

Surprised sq242 syd-sin has the new seats. Not sure how I feel about it yet, the tech is good but my legs are on such an angle..

My son and his +1 had booked the 777 running about 3 hours after our flight. They knew we had picked up the two Suite Savers so it would only be Suites Standard or bust. Less of a bargain but very convenient to arrive at the same time.

For interest, the SQ215/216 rotation SIN-PER-SIN is being upgraded from a 333 to 77E from 01 March 2018 until 30 April 2018.

The 77E aircraft scheduled has the 1-2-1 J seat which is an improvement over the 333 regional J seat. Nice surprise when I checked an existing J booking this morning.

Thanks for the update, certainly is great to see SQ giving PER some attention, perhaps a trial to gauge demand? Majority mainline international carriers operating newer equipment on their respective routes, also Qatar with the A380 from 1 May whilst the direct QF 787 all competing for the European market.

When you fly from Singapore to London on your birthday you get 7 hours more birthday time. My son received a cake for four and 2 teddy bears. Well done SQ.

It was really lovely to get all four of us onto one flight from Singapore to London in Suites class. We started with The Private Room breakfast with PH Rare champagne. That one is a beauty.

Just checked in for AMS-MEL and row 11 suddenly appeared available - carpe diem
Now hoping to arrive with out bruising over my kneecaps......

Sorry - coming to this thread a bit late (no notifications!).

The flight manager is correct. Short intra-asia flights have modified catering due to short flying time. There is no caviar, or amenity kits (which are generally only available on flights over six hours, or some shorter overnight flights if arriving and departing in a specified window). Book the cook is not available for flights departing Manila, but would be available in the reverse direction (ex SIN)

Hi brainstrust, a quick question is a CPH-SIN-HKT//HKT-SIN-MEL redemption a valid redemption? Or is it seen as a side trip? Might have to just book as two one way trips. The devaluation of Star Alliance has screwed me a bit here, as CPH-BKK-HKT would make more sense but is more VA miles through SQ (on *A) than just booking CPH-SIN-HKT on SQ using VA miles straight.

Convoluted trip planning at the moment and it looks like 3 one way bookings will be the go with 2 adults and 1 infant. Also have the benefit of booking direct with VA the infant costs ZERO where with SQ will have to pay 10% of commercial fare. Hmm...

The route you would be looking to book is CPH-MEL. SQ awards don't allow back-tracking, and also state - IIRC - that there must be a published routing. The trip to HKT would involve backtracking, and probably has no published fare allowing that route in terms of SQ all the way (although maybe TG has one? I think they fly CPH-HKT non-stop). So I think there are potentially a couple of things working against you there :(

There's no harm in asking them to try it for you.

Just to add to that, the F class Book the Cook (lobster thermidor) between HND-SIN was only J size, ie. only half the size. A cut back due to late dep (22:50) ?

Also, it seems Vintage 2004 Krug is not being served anyone, despite it still being on the menu :(

Yep exactly what I thought. I would do CPH-BKK-HKT//HKT-SIN-MEL as a *A award, but unfortunately can’t do a stopover AFAIK on *A award. Might have to stick to the one ways. Not too huge a point penalty and advantage of points staying with Virgin which is cheaper with the infant.

Would you not be best doing a CPH-SIN-MEL redemption with a stopover in SIN for $100? And sorting out SIN-HKT separately - either point or paid?
