SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

ok thanks for the feedback, so what would you guys do for future reference? and this case
I booked separately in case it was easier to get 2 x single seats rather than 1x pair of seats i nthe same booking

and there is nothing unethical or immoral about being on the waiting list for F when I have J confirmed is there?

Confirmed in J and waitlisted for F is perfectly fine :) Nothing at all wrong with that.

What could happen here is that if the flight is looking full and SQ needs seats (or perhaps they're trying to clear waitlists) is that they'll review the flight, see you are booked MEL-LHR in both J and F, and cancel one of them. Hopefully not before contacting you, but you might miss their call.

Taking one award seat in J, and another award seat in F when you can't possibly use both of them, is potentially stopping another passenger from using it.

Some folk may think 'tough luck'. Others may be aware how hard it can be to find seats and be mindful of that.

On something like this I'd probably call KrisFlyer, get them to review your bookings, and ask them to send a chaser to try and clear the outstanding waitlist for the one passenger in F. Then they can sort out the seats you won't be needing.

very informative!

so what does singapore airlines do when you call up and ask them to clear it? do they sometimes have them avaiaible but not able to be allocated?

so for future refercen you would recommend booking a double seat instead of 2 x singles?

wouldnt that mean the chances of you getting are severely reduced because the system is constantly waiting for a pair to come, as opposed to a single, even if theyre not sitting together

If you ring them and ask them to chase up the waitlist they will send a note to yield management who may review the flight. They'll look at a range of factors like current bookings, potential future bookings, whether it's a peak period etc etc. They may decide to release a revenue seat and convert it to an award seat so your waitlist may clear. It's never guaranteed of course. It's same same as a platinum ringing up asking for an award seat to be released on Qantas.

One extra glass of red and the Suite 4F will be fine as you drift off into the land of nod.
Sure we tend to go to lower number Suites when they are there.

done, gave them a call this morning,
3 flights "chased"

now we wait!
unlikely, it will clear but we have a Plan B which makes it a hell of a lot easier

so what would the experts here do if they are looking for a F 2 Pax seat, when they already have a 2x J confirmed? will you waitlist 2PAX or will you wait list 1PAX x 2 to increase chances?

Flying J but access to the F lounge with no status.
How does that work please?

False alarm kids - the temporary replenishment of PH Rare for SKL F T2/3 now also exhausted - back to CH NV in both both - advice on re-supply of PH Reare still in the air - Lounge Mgmt don’t have a handle on it as yet.

There's no offical benefit for this other than for some of KrisFlyers' top elites. (In SIN your inbound boarding pass can give you F lounge access when connecting to J, but that's available to everyone.)

That aside, frequency of travel and knowing the lounge staff may work in your favour.

Am sitting quietly in SIN SKL J when I hear:

Lounge Manager: Hello Mr Elite, why are you here in J Lounge?
Me: I am flying J today
Lounge Manager: But you are Solitaire so you can enter F Lounge
Me: No I am not Solitaire
Lounge Manager: You must be Solitaire you fly F every month
Me: No I am not Solitaire
Lounge Manager: Show me your boarding pass please
Me: Ok - hand it over
Lounge Manager: (accompanied by her associate check closely) bzzz........ bzzz ........ bzzz ......... ok - would you like to go into F anyway?
Me: No it’s all good - I am traveling with my friend today
Lounge Manager: ok - have a great flight
Me: Thank you - smile - gotta love SQ huh?

@LadyC @ninja-tim - similar situation with the kiddo. Contemplating one last hurrah (again) before #1 turns 2, but #2 is now on the way so feel like F (and potentially even J) would be a waste as she wouldn't be able to partake. Have you ever split the fam across cabins?

(for reference we did Y+ UA SYD-IAH a month ago, and by now it's just a distant memory, although at the time it was a bit of a challenge with sharing him across our laps for the stint). Y+ in UA definitely worth it for the legroom but that's for a different thread.

The child/infant can't be seated by themselves. Will need an accompanying adult in the chosen class of service. For adults (with infant), splitting across cabins is entirely possible.
