The Ette and I only 2 pax in R SQ346 SIN-ZRH this morn - didn’t want for service!
Excellent!

I tried to book F/R last year for travel to ZRH anywhere 12-15/6 this year: there was no availability Saver or Advantage so ended up in J an then cancelled anyway. You must have golden fingers :)!

No just lucky - I was checking availability 2 x R Savers SIN-ZRH like 12mths back - no Savers showing - then randomly couple months later they appeared for a day or 2 - I know one other AFFer who also saw dates available and added W/L as I did - couple months later they cleared - 2 x R Savers on new 380 at Saver rates - and zero availability at Saver rates since.

TBH I have now ridden the new R 3 times - wouldn't give 2 bob for it - I booked these needing to fly MEL-SYD to position for SYD-SIN-ZRH both sectors in new R coz the Ette had never flown it - after flying these 2 sectors she too is of view that old R is better and would never want to suffer the inconvenience of getting to SYD to fly it again.

Amazing how if you talk to enough crew they will tell you how so many regular pax prefer old over new - crew themselves much prefer to crew old 380 than new 380 - I might write a full report if I get inclination but prolly waste of time as all pax can try and form their own views. But WOW - how SQ got this new R so badly wrong - their are a myriad of deficiencies - and oh BTW designers are already hard at work to develop the new 6 Suite R cabin to replace these mainly because of the probs - YES they are always hard at work developing next gen product but this brief has been brought way forward.

ok, go easy boys and girls, I just did my first ever redemption in my life on any airline
thanks to Mel_traveller whom ive been msging in private

can anyone critique?

TLDR, I wanted to do New suites all the way, and order of preference of flight was PM/Overnight/Early morning, I needed to go to Melbourne to Singapore, stay in singapore for 2-4 days, then SIngapore to Taiwan, stay 6-8 days, then back to melb.
Tried to do Melb-Sing-HKG-Taipei, as SING to HKG would be more time in F, but availability was virtually zero

Melb to Sing 12/07 00:05 A380 F
Sing to Taipei 15/07 11:15 A330 J
Taipei to Melb Air China 23/07 22:25 A359 J

costs: 88k Kris points $130 AUD tax+$143 Stop over fee=$273 AUD
65k QFF points $101 AUD TAX

- I did China air on the way back because the SING AIR return flight, there was only one option which meant a 16 hour stop over in HKG

So how did I do? I feel a bit jibbed with the taxes and stop over costs, old suites, and J for SIN to Taipei, and Taipei to Melb, and overnight flighjts, and not being able to do SIN to HKG to Taipei

thanks for your feedback everyone,

thanks for your feedback everyone,

I never liked the MEL-SIN overnight A380 F, because its overnight, no Caviar, and by the time I get settled in, personally I'm too tired, only able to enjoy a few drinks, and fall asleep. Otherwise, old suites or new suites, both are amazing IMO.

yeah, I concur. F at night cannot be properly enjoyed.
I did old suites at day time and new suites at night.
enjoyed the old so much more

oh, I did not know that, for next time then!

so which would you guys do old suites on A380 on a over night flight VS 777 on F?

also, for seat selection for a solo traveller which would you do for old suites?

on my plane I have 12 seats 1A/F, 4A/F have exits behind/ front, but from the diagram, 1A and 1F seem to have gap between 2A/F (not sure if its just the diagram),

so would the best for a Right hander be seats 2A/2F?
currently every seat is available?
I read somewhere that its good to book a centre seat so if next door is vacant you can almost use both

In F, I like the side solo seats to control the blinds. If there are 2 centre seats available when you board, you can ask to have them made up to a bed later.
If you try to book the double seats and then the plane is full, you may be "bum- bum" (that's what one of the SQ TPR staff called it), with a stranger.

I don't like being too close to the galley due to noise. Rows 2 and 3 seem to be most popular. Recently on an old A380 when it looked like I'd be sharing the centre with a stranger and the F cabin was full, I asked in the TPR (in SIN, for SIN-JFK), if I could be moved. Luckily, they were looking to seat a couple together so I was given row 1 and really enjoyed the 'isolation' of that row.

The centre dividers would be up If you book the centre seats as a solo wouldn't they?

"Bum bum" sounds so rude :)
