SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Excellent question and the answer is probably no - would totally depend how late the sub was - this did happen to me once and there was no F cabin manned or offered on the sub aircraft - god it was so long ago I really cannot clearly remember the circumstances or route - don’t quote me I really don’t know but rarely would this ever happen.

Edit: Thinking again what a great question - I will try to find out if I can

The agent on the phone said it was booked as an F ticket through to LAX but in J due to aircraft being J/PE only. Not sure ground OPs and reservations would see it the same.

I think using enough points for an F trip all the way would justify an F/R seat, but logic isn’t always aligned with airlines. :)

I’ll be happy in my row 11 non-cubby footwell seat to LAX, but wouldn’t argue in an F seat with caviar. :)

I've never been confident on how to price a mixed redemption in points?

It would be priced at either the through fare, or the addition of the relevant component flights, whichever is cheapest. But the chart is pretty much designed so that the through fare is usually cheapest.

Hey CE

If we had an aircraft change that included F/R, would we be moved from J?

You’ve paid the F mileage, but the ticket would need to be reissued for the SIN-LAX sector so it was in F. You’d do this before departure, if award seats were available.

The only aircraft with the range for SIN-LAX are the a350s, so they top out at J.

If they changed the aircraft to a 777 you’d be flying via HKG/TYO/ICN etc.

Does anyone know if it possible to self-book a one way award flight from JFK to BNE, with a paid stopover in FRA and SIN.

FRA would be about 2 weeks and in Asia about the same, or possibly a bit more.

If this flight went ahead it would be in May/June of a given year - probably 2021 at this stage.

Are there usually many (or any) seats available to suit - only me flying.

Anyone ever had issues with them collecting payment? They cant get their credit card machine to work.

No, but if thats the case, they should be able to hold your booking and give you a deadline at a later date to ticket it by. We didn't have enough points to make an award booking once (needed to transfer from Amex to KF), and they reserved it, and told us we had to have the points by Jan (this was last April I think, so 9 months) to have it ticketed.

It don't think it would be one flight or award tickets, it would be three. JFK-FRA, FRA-SIN and SIN-BNE. You can easily search for them individually on the KF web site.

Is it true they can only collect in Singapore dollars? I thought I had made a redemption before and they charged in Aussie dollars. I got through to the Sydney office. In the end the girl said ring back to tomorrow because she coukd not get anything to work

Yep you did - I have never ever heard of that - did you get her name? Call was recorded anyway so get straight back on dog and bone and ask for a Manager - that behaviour totally unacceptable and so un-SQ-like

Will do but if you can clarify whether redemptions should be made in Sin or Oz dollars that would be great. Thanks so much for your help

If paying over phone it will be in Sing $s - they cannot process foreign currency but will do Conversion from A$ or € or £ or whatever to Sing $s

I made a redemption a couple of nights ago that has ticketed but the taxes still have not hit my credit card, so I think there is something funny going on.

Yep I have had 3 pmts post in last week - 1 indeed did malfunction with auto system and defaulted to manual pmt but all have posted

Very impressed with the phone service. Needed to book CMN-IST-SIN-SYD which doesn’t seem possible online. I admittedly found a few work arounds to confirm availability, but once on the phone it was put together and ticketed in less than 5 minutes. Points calculation was totally correct as a single North Africa to Australia. Total call time was less than 10 minutes and not even a mention of an assisted booking fee.

Would have been a 3 hour excercise with Qantas.

I have been eyeing off that route for a possible future trip (though with MEL).

I have been able to do dummy bookings online though it does seem patchy, but one thing I noted was that the taxes and charges vary enormously and in particular if you had Turkish Airlines on the IST-SIN leg.

Out of curiosity what were your taxes and charges and are you on SQ metal for IST-SIN-SYD legs? I assume you are with Turkish for CMN-IST.

Thank you.
