SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Booked the return leg for our US/CA trip next year x3 J LAX-SIN-ADL (SQ35/279) for a total of 363K miles and AUD125.50 in taxes. For SQ35 I have not travelled on the a350 ULH and have selected 12K,14K,15K. Any thoughts on the J forward cabin, looking at the seat map it is one of the planes that runs J and Y+ only.

While the A350 is pretty quiet, the front cabin will keep you farther away from the engines. Those are about the best seats you could ask for.

Just a quick question regarding a phone redemption I just made. Have J Award confirmed with F Award wait-listed on SQ866. What is the general consensus on confirming/ticketing? Was going to confirm but thought if the F was confirmed from wait-list would that then be cancelled and second payment required? hope that makes sense!

Gotta set your alarm to get those R savers! :) You should have seen the panic in my face when I was having dinner with my +1 last year, and realised that it had been about 8 hours since inventory would have been released for our preferred departure date. Luckily, they were available.

But, when only waitlist was available, I've called before and asked for the waitlist to be cleared, knowing we were the only two on it, and there were still 10 empty suites. They asked if there was any special occasion or reason for wanting to clear the waitlist, said they would email the (insert job title here, inventory controller?) and I would hear back in 2-3 days. I received an email on my booking confirmation not 30 minutes later. Same with blocked seats (row 11 on a350), I called and asked for them to be un-blocked. Again, they had to email a seat inventory manager, and about an hour later had a "your seat change has been confirmed" email.
Did you call he main reservation number or krisflyer? I called yesterday to try and change my booking (saver in Old Republic Suite) to an earlier flight that shows saver waitlisted and advantage as available but was told no seats available. Do I need to ask the question differently.?

Can anyone tell me if SQ lets you check in early at BKK? I know they have 24 hour check in at SIN, but I can’t find advice for other airports. There’s a flight a couple of hours earlier than mine so I know the desk will be manned at least.

I’m travelling with my mum who has a flight two hours before mine with Qantas. It’s easier to travel to the airport together (plus she won’t get lost!). It’s a long time to be out at the airport but at least I have lounge access once I see mum off.

Do you think there’s even the slimmest chance of guesting a Qantas passenger into the SilverKris lounge? I’m flying J on a VA ticket and I’m WP. I thought maybe they’d be more forgiving of an elderly mum. What do you think?

OMG is prem award space MEL/SYD-SIN and SIN-PVG/PEK now up til Xmas tight - I have never seen it like this ever - I have 2 more trips to China before Xmas and all 4 sectors may be via ADL - my dates are pretty restricted but a day or so leeway each flt but just a no go

This is scary. Does the SQ monthly ‘specials’ affect availability?

I called the Sydney number for KF. This time, no luck (yet?!?!). I think it depends on how you word your request and how the agent articulates that request to the controller.

Hi,

Just trying to book the following;

MEL-SIN-CPT (destination); via SQ
VFA-ADD (stop) - via ET
ADD-SIN-MEL via ET then SQ

They've told me that it needs to be booked as three one-ways (I thought you could buy a $100USD stopover, but apparently not?). Now I've been told that the agent that held the flights shouldn't have put them all on one PNR and they can't book it at all without separating the booking. While doing that they can no longer see the ET legs...

Does the PNR issue make sense?

Edit: Weird, they "got permission" from a supervisor and were able to issue the ticket as originally planned.

As a data point, they held my SQ flights for 4 days and told me the ET tickets were on hold until July 2020 🤣

I suspect this is due to the influx of AmEx refugees? Pointy end will be lousy with them for three years or so.

Booked PVG-SIN-MEL in J for my mum last night for her to return post a trip next year. I'm 98% sure I selected the correct flight out of PVG, but somehow it booked her on one 6hrs earlier that she cannot make.

Realised immediately - called up KF Sydney number, all sorted out in under 10mins. Didn't even hint at a service charge for making the change and all is well. God I love SQ and was so glad the error was on her flight home, not the QF booking I'd made for her way over... Would still be on hold trying to get it fixed!

What do SQ call those monthly promos offering reduced pts rqts to book J rdpts please?

And what email address do they come from each month does anybody know?

Velocity to KF is instantaneous, so as soon as you find the flights move your points.
