SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Later this month I will take one for the team as I am going Perth to Los Angeles on SQ and Mrscove is going QF Perth-SYD-LAX.
When I couldn't get Mrscove on my SQ flights in the same cabin I knew I would hear about that for a decade or more. I bought her a ticket on QF.

This may be good or bad news for suite travellers, but my old suites flight CDG - MEL (July 2020) just got "upgraded" to new suites. We were in "old" 3C/3D, now in "new" 1A/2A so can still share a bed.

Clearly the old suites are being phased out.
Probably bad news for us as our usual route is MEL - CDG. Seats will be harder to come by and will require more points...

Yes existing pts rdpts will stand and pax will get opportunity to exp new R - but virtually kiss any future R Savers on SIN-CDG route goodbye - sad sad chapter in the great ’Points For Pointy End Flights’ game

What’s with the x2 or x3 bottles with each pic - double wine matching with every dish ? been drinking 2013 Clonakilla at home of late and it’s only now coming into its window. Will be on 228 this Wed and will ask to try the ‘16 for comparison

My 2¢: Whenever I travel in F I ask to try each of the wines on offer. I am unlikely to buy them myself, so I take advantage of the opportunity.

Ok fess up time - def staged pics - although I did have Dom and Comptes in glasses on the tray table at same time for tasting comparison - and as pictured I also had Rauzan and Clonakilla in glass on the tray table at same time for tasting comparison - ‘Bless me father for I have sinned!!!’ Apologies for doing it my way.

100% agreed - all I think of when I hear "New Suites amazing etc etc" is the heavily reduced Saver availability (and in the majority of cases, just no availability whatsoever, zilch, nada, none) of Suites redemptions moving forward.
This will make things a lot lot harder for those saving up the KF balance to try out Suites.
Try get in while you can, when a lot of routes are still operated by A380 birds with unrefurbished Suites cabins. You won't regret it.

No great update in SIN SKL T3 renos - this is the hoarding wall around work area looking straight back out from SKL T3 entrance - the area imm inside this will be Lounge Offices:

Works have only just encompassed the smoking area that was to left looking out of lounge - the walled area down walkway:

And Sats Lounge which will stay intact:

So this new area being worked on will eventually be new SKL Gold Lounge - but during renos will serve as temp lounge initially for TPR and F section - this was original plan but from what I could glean last week things are moving very slowly and plans are changing continually - but I think this is still overall plan

Well don’t know if I’m crazy or indulgent or both but we managed to get some F seats to JFK on one ticket without “stopovers” on three consecutive days to celebrate a milestone. Day 1: MEL-SIN (228)- me only as could only get one seat on this flight, and I was back in MEL to celebrate with extended family- then after overnighting at home in SIN my partner will join me , Day 2: SIN-FRA (326) - overnight there and and Day 3 FRA-JFK (26). Only availability we could find, but no wasting flights sleeping ....

Thanks Cruiser avoiding them celebrity Chef nonsense pie on 228 and trying the pork belly. Will see how it goes.

Update to Previous Discussion: There was considerable discussion some time back about TPR access when arr R/F and dep following day in J - this was exactly same situation I had last week - a mixed class tix.

F on 238 MEL-SIN arr 15:15 - dep next day J on 830 SIN-PVG all in same BR - I went to TPR courtesy SQ R/F same day arr access and intended to have in-depth discussion with SKL Manager on Duty (my 2 best Managers have now dep SQ so my UTD knowledge base quite limited).

Unfortunately Manager on Duty had prob to deal with in T2 so I could not get access in reasonable time but I did show Senior Staff on desk TPR my next day J BP and asked could I possibly return to TPR for bfast pre J dep - not a problem and she would leave note at front desk for staff on duty next am.

I am not sure if this staff member knew me or not - I cannot remember them - so I am still not 100% sure if next day access was granted because they knew me or because I laid out details and asked nicely - I am back through again Dec 3 - I will again attempt an audience with Manager on Duty to clarify.

Interesting, C Elite...... looking forward to the update on this. We INTENDED to use TPR for breakfast (and champagne) after arriving in SIN at night in Suites from SYD (sleeping in the ambassador), before departing in J for LAX. Since the won't release the waitlist for F to go to LAX via NRT in first. :(

Also thanks for photos and updates on construction "progress". Good to see it doesn't matter if its me managing house reno's or a premier airline managing a huge lounge refurb project, nothing goes as planned! :)

robtemt I assume you arr 21:20 on 222? If yes and you don’t get W.L. cleared (very doubtful) then head to TPR for a quick drink before heading to Amb Hotel and with you arr and dep BPs in hand ask at TPR entry desk if the will permit re-entry next morn - don’t ask at entry to SKL as staff there will have no authority to ok your request - good luck - nothing ventured nothing gained!

Great minds!!! :) Yes, 222, to 36 in the am, hoping for 12 instead for the 4 seat F cabin and the stretch break in NRT.

I told my +1, we are getting champagne and burger/lobster/both before taking our nap, and doing a repeat in the morning, before switching to LA time for sleep on the flight.

IIRC the discussion was a little different to the situation you describe?

I thought the discussion was around an extended stop in Singapore and whether TPR would be granted like a couple of days later. This was on the basis that F had been paid as a through award even though only J was available for the chosen flight.

Arriving pm one day, and departing am the next day is not uncommon for access to TPR according to various data points. Once pax start going outside what might be considered a 'transit' it becomes a little more murky.
