SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Interesting, I was offered by the phone agent to put a multi sector mixed airline booking on hold on the weekend with no charge while my points transferred over.

When we booked our multi-sector/mixed class award for March 2020 in March 2019, they put them on hold for us at no charge. We were required to ticket them by Jan 2020 (10 months)!

$25 isn't that bad, and its not SQ's fault we don't have the points in our account yet, so I think its reasonable.

The author did write that "if the award is bookable as a normal award, there’s a fee."..... A multi-sector, mixed class redemption is not bookable as a "normal award"...

Hey all,
just a few questions - all bookings with points
1. Is it possible to book online, PE one way and Business the way back on the same itinary? Is it cheaper to do it on the same booking.
2. what happens if I am wait listed business there, and the wait list doesn't clear and I already booked buisness return (return is available) .

cheers

Easier to book as 2 1ways as points needed is the same X2 for return

there was something else I was going to ask
If i waitlist J class to SG, and it doesn't clear - do I just get my points back?
What happens if I book PE to SG, then J waitlist clears. Can I cancel the PE booking? What penalties do I incur? cheers

When you WL no points are actually removed from your account unless said WL clears and you confirm the booking.

If you book PE and pay the pts and fees you can also add a WL to that Booking Reference to upgrade to J or F/R if available on that flt - if your WL clears you will then be up for additional points and fees to confirm the upgrade - this is a very common simple, painless and straight forward procedure.

Absolutely I want to go - it's not imperative but we have some major decisions to be made re product range for rest of 2020 and > - will I go? Absolutely if reasonably safe to do so - it's still 19 days from now until I would arr into PEK - 3 nts there - 3 nts in PVG - 1 day visit to Hangzhou - ALL a fair distance from Wuhan - I am in daily contact with our Chinese partners and as yet they know nobody from their factories who are ill - this could all change of course - I will monitor closer to date.

Should you have deleted your booking reference?

Thanks for the info, just did some reading on the internet, is this the correct procedure?
Book PE, then call up and ask to be waitlisted for J or F? (actually call up and not do it online?)
While WL, call up KRIS and enquire every now and then to try and get lucky that they will clear the WL? cheers

Yep book PE and then call KF and request they add your desired WL - if and when WL clears you will receive SMS and email advising WL has cleared - it is then you call KF back and request them to complete your upgrade.

Feel free at anytime waiting for WL to clear you can call KF and request they send off a ‘chaser’ to seat controller to try to nudge them to release seat - you may or may not get some joy here

Tried calling Sydney tonight but gave up after being on hold for 15 minutes. Couldn’t get a long name to work in a redemption so I will try later.

Very likely that we will be booking LAX-SIN for Jan 2021 in a few weeks time when it becomes available and tossing up which flight to take - SQ11 with the stop in NRT or non-stop on SQ37. Will be in J.

What are people’s thoughts on the pros and cons of each? Particularly, has anyone done the non-stop? How was it?

So we ended up booking SQ37 mainly due to the evening departure allowing a full day in LA. I was still tossing up last night but Mrs NoName made the executive decision and wasn’t even swayed by an unexpected F-saver coming up for SQ11 when I went to book an hour ago.

So we have 4x J savers LAX-SIN on the non-stop. Will we be the forum guinea pigs? :p

Any suggestions for seat selection? I’m reading that row 11 may offer a little extra space? Although it’s unavailable to select currently. Would a phone call help grab it?

Not for me it didn't but a heavy hitter may have more luck.

We are booked on the non-stop SIN-LAX flight in J on 25 December 2020. Although it is the opposite direction, I will be able to provide some feedback if there are interested readers.

I believe Row 11 seats are blocked for selection unless you are a PPS club member. These seats only open up for selection by anyone 48 hours before departure.
