SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Very likely that we will be booking LAX-SIN for Jan 2021 in a few weeks time when it becomes available and tossing up which flight to take - SQ11 with the stop in NRT or non-stop on SQ37. Will be in J.

What are people’s thoughts on the pros and cons of each? Particularly, has anyone done the non-stop? How was it?

We haven't done the non-stop, but my partner begged and begged to book it.... We did SQ12 in F (can you find a few more points? ;)) It is a long flight compared to the direct you can get form SYD on QF, VA, AA, UA... But, we love SQ that much... I'm not sure in J it's worth the extra time, unless your final is SIN? We liked the break in NRT to walk around, shower, sober up ;)

We are SUPPOSED to be on SQ36 in J in March (6th). We are thankful to have booked bulkhead so we don't have the dreaded cubby hole for our feet. But, we've waitlisted for F on SQ12 again, as the service is unbeatable. Im guessing its not enough time before you have to book, but I intend to do a trip report this time (and keep up on it, as much s internet in CR allows, unlike past times where I've just gotten too into vacay mode 🤤). The plan:
SYD-SIN (SQ - R)
SIN -LAX (SQ - J-Direct, unless we are moved to F via NRT)
LAX - SJO (DL - "F")
SJO - LAX (DL - "F")
LAX - HNL (DL - J - Delta One Seat, same ol' domestic service)
HNL - LNY (private charter)
LNY - HNL (private charter)
HNL - SYD (HA - J)

It seems impossible via the website to book an award ticket for Taipei to Bangkok. Nothing shows on the award chart either. What am I missing?

Have you called? Might be due to this:

The Origin and Destination you have selected constitutes a backtrack routing on Singapore Airlines/SilkAir. Backtracking is not permitted except as required by routing restrictions. Backtracking occures when a journey does not occur in the same direction as that in which it was begun.

Ok will try and call thanks.

F would be fine and we would be happy to split the party between the two cabins but not looking like there will be any savers available straight up on the preferred dates. So likely to be 4x J. Would probably waitlist 2x F savers if we ended up booking SQ11.

yeah. What robtempt said. Calling might also get you non-stop options on either TG or BR. I'd certainly take BR, and probably even TG over SQ via SIN, provided you got the full flats on TG.

Just got an email reply for the feedback I left regarding the Krug alternating in F.

Thank you for your feedback submitted via our website on 18 December 2019, regarding the availability of Krug Grande Cuvee on your upcoming flight SQ218 from Melbourne to Singapore on 25 February 2020.

We wish to share that with effect from 27 October 2019, we have introduced the Tattinger Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs 2007 to our existing selection of champagne offered in First Class. While Dom Perignon will still be featured, we will be alternating between Krug Grande Cuvee and Tattinger Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs 2007, so as to offer a greater variety for our passengers to enjoy.

As the Tattinger Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs 2007 will be featured for February 2020 and Krug Grande Cuvee for March 2020, we hope you will enjoy both champagnes on your flights SQ218 to Melbourne on 25 February 2020, and SQ237 to Singapore on 13 March 2020. We have also shared your feedback regarding your preference for the Krug Grande Cuvee with our Inflight Services Department for inclusion in their on-going reviews.
Thank you for the opportunity to correspond, Best wishes for the new year ahead.

Yours sincerely

Hopefully, this is the right place to post this, but I wanted to share my family's first experience travelling in SQ J on points - we recently flew SYD-SIN(free stop-over)-BKK-(open jaw: Thai Airways economy)-HKT-SYD. We were very impressed by SQ's service and the book the cook meals were generally very good (the duck in plum sauce was exceptional!)

Flew on following SQ metal - 777-300ER, new A380 J, 777-200, and 737-800 (Silk Air) - so quite a range of J - the 777-200 was the only flight where the food/service was average.

The one exceptional SQ moment today was that the family was split for the return journey across SQ221 and SQ231 (latter was old A380 J) b/c of understandably limited reward availability at this time of year - I politely asked at HKT whether there was any chance of the myself and my other family member changing from SQ231 to SQ221 (4 hour earlier flight) so we could travel with the rest of the family, and I was quite amazed when they said 'no problem'. We also got 11D and 11F on SQ221, so that was a big bonus as well :) (AND they still had my nominated book the cook meal on the earlier flight...)

THANKS SO MUCH to everyone on this thread and other parts of AFF for all their great advice, as we wouldn't have had this experience otherwise (we also used a combination of purchased and accrued points and AMEX FH&R's to stay in some lovely hotels on our travels, which is also thanks to the advice received)

"Flow Forward" SQ style ...

Have applied for a waitlist for SIL to go Suites from SIN to LHR next month. Looks possible based on sales so far.

Curious about the new Rewards change fees. It costs USD $25 to change the date, and $25 for any change in route, so I assume it would be $50.

However Manage booking wasnt working online (just loops back to previous page) so I ring up and do it over the phone, but the operator only charges me 1 x $25, did he make a mistake or did I misunderstand?

For reference my flight from BNE and changed the 2nd segment SIN>BDO to SIN>SUB (both Indonesia) so the redemption points are the same. Of course I wasnt going to ask him if that was the correct fee

So who else has recently experienced the Oz no. 02 8228 1188 diverting to Mumbai rather than to SIN SQ/KF Call Ctr?

RRPITA - Mumbai Call Ctr Agents are clueless when it comes to booking any rdpt with any complexity!

I called Oz number on 8 Jan and don't think I was redirected. The agent was very helpful and efficient.
