SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Courtesy of kamchatsky via FT China sub forum Taittinger Prelude back onboard SQ J - well def on 232 ex SYD yesterday:

Was def not onboard 238 / 830 / 831 or 217 2 weeks ago but hopefully will be available across many more flts

Not bad at all for J. I might survive SQ36 if we don't get our F seats from the WL on SQ12, if they serve that! :)

Tait Prelude was the staple Champs across ALL SQ J cabins some years back - then there was flip flipping for Duval-Leroy / Bollinget etc for a period before CH became the staple - a return to Tait Prelude would be a serious plus.

Anybody else see the hideous ‘Precious Moments’ SQ Girl doll on page 160 of Dec SilverKris - just so demeaning to ALL female SQ Cabin Crew Members - my thoughts have already been sent off to Mr Goh Choon Phong:

I would hope others do the same

I think they all look like this. I don't think its meant to make the Singapore Girls look subservient or to be demeaning. I think all of these precious moments dolls are just f-ing depressing. Like these two in love:

Interesting that I showed quite a few female Crew Members over 4 flts most of whom were not even aware they were onboard for sale - response was way way way less than positive - the original iconic SQ Girl is a sensation IMHO but the PM doll nothing short of disgraceful.

should I still do online check-in when flying J? I have done so in the past but I am wondering if it actually saves anytime?

Yes, here's why:
1) You can choose a better seat (if you don't have a 'good' one already)
2) You're much, much, much less likely to get bumped (downgraded to Y or denied boarding altogether). This thread comes to mind when thinking about this scenario. However with SQ I believe they rarely overbook their flights so this point doesn't matter, however it's just much better to get it done anyway

I always make it a point to OLCI whether I'm flying at the back of the bus in Y, in the middle (or top) in J, or at the pointy end in F/R. I also do like having a PDF boarding pass (for what it's worth).

anyone know if you can load your own movies onto the inflight entertainment system? via usb ? if so, what format is accepted?

A lot of these seats have an HDMI plug. May be able to use that? Has anyone actually done it? I’d love to bring along one of these from home one day:

They connect to the TV using HDMI cable and are powered through an iPhone charger (or similar).

We connected our Nintendo Switch and played monopoly last year. I can't remember if we each had it connected to our own screen or if we played off one IFE screen. Sorry, probably not much help.

as I mentioned previously, its been a a few weeks since I was unable to look up Melb to Singa One way using redemption, using website and App,

its coming up with "invalid carrier error" or something similar,

can anyone please have a look at availability Melb to Sing, 4th -10th Jan One way, Award saver, any class,

i called singapore airlines and she told me nothing avialable in all classes in about 15 seconds, which seemed a bit quick, but i cant check

just did a search, i found 2 x business saver seats on 10 Jan for SQ238. You couldn't get any other dates for J, not even for advantage award as it shows up as not available. Y and F are advantage rates only on all days.

thank you so much for that, not the news I wanted but confirmed a few things,

once again, disappointed that I get told outright wrong info, I usually have these problems with philipino call centres, didnt think I would get it with a singapore staff

I just confirmed a WL flight and cancelling a confirmed flight (same destination, different flight time) by phone, was going to be charged a change fee - is this new? agent said as I'm cancelling a confirmed and changing that to the confirmed wait list it is a change...

Very likely that we will be booking LAX-SIN for Jan 2021 in a few weeks time when it becomes available and tossing up which flight to take - SQ11 with the stop in NRT or non-stop on SQ37. Will be in J.

What are people’s thoughts on the pros and cons of each? Particularly, has anyone done the non-stop? How was it?
