SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Yes but tell them you or wifey lost them - are you good actors - exchanging looks of blame between the 2 of you will all be part of your wonderful theatrical performance - tell them you were desperate to keep the BPs as souvenirs - reprinting lost BPs not uncommon so should be no biggie.

You arrive into SIN morrow morn? I will be in SIN bw 8:00 and 11:00 morrow morn if you are about? Have not met your much better half yet but would love to do so

Thanks mate, we haven't tried our luck as actors just yet, only one way to find out 😂 SIN SKL, watch out!

Hi guys,

I'm planning a short trip to Delhi next year and considering burning some velocity points on a first class ticket with Singapore. I noticed they fly their newer suites product from Singapore to Mumbai only and Delhi still gets the older first class product. Having never flown first class before would it be worth the difference in points redemption to take the old A380 product or just stick to business? There also appears to be no waitlist with first class redemptions that I'm looking at which would make booking much easier as I have no status with Singapore (platinum with velocity).

@Nathant123

As long as you're not on the 777-300 ER, you're in for a treat.

Cruiser Elite can tell you why in great detail, but the general consensus is that the latest SQ suites Look better, but the older version utilises the space better and is more practical & comfortable
Thanks for the reply mate. Yep its definitely the A380 flying from Singapore to Delhi. On further research it appears they fly their new product to Mumbai but I'm only in India for a week give or take so no time to be taking indirect flights.

Anyone tried SQ to the Maldives?
Mrscove has expiring miles she needs to use.
There's plenty on here that have, however personally I'd highly recommend taking the MI service (yes it's not SQ, not on the same level, MI 737 vs SQ 787, etc etc). The simple reason is: timing. With the Maldives, timing is paramount (especially if you want to make the most of your time there, and you're on a resort island).

Basically:
  • SQ's service, SQ452, has an ETA in MLE of 10:10pm. The sun has long set by this time, so all* speedboats and seaplanes between MLE and the resorts don't run. This means you have to slum it out overnight at MLE, either at the airport or at a close by hotel / Airbnb. This wastes a night (and cash). Not recommended!
* I've heard that there's *some* speedboats that operate at night, however I have no experience with this.
  • MI's service, MI482, has an ETA in MLE of 11:40am. Absolutely perfect for taking that final leg of your journey - either speedboat or seaplane. All going well, you should be at your resort by about 1 or 2pm. Perfect for check-in time.
Source: In Jan this year my wife and I had our honeymoon at a resort in the Maldives.
Took SQ218 in Suites, connecting to MI482 in Economy (Row 5 so bulkhead, the extra legroom was much welcomed after Suites and TPR pampering). Made it to our resort at 1:30pm after taking a speedboat from MLE.

We didn't mind the big shift down to Y from R, the timing was more important given we only had 3 days to fit everything in.

Tl;dr - if time is of the essence, take MI482. If you've got a lot of time on your hands, take SQ452 if you're intent on being on SQ metal.

Yes we are planning to do the midday arrival if we book.
Have asked Six Senses for some information on their accommodation and the sea plane to get there.
i looked at using SQ miles to get to Honolulu until I realized you have to fly to San Francisco or Los Angeles to get there from Singapore.

We have booked a J award flight from Singapore to Barcelona on Singapore Airlines next year through Velocity. It leaves at 00.30

We have also booked a paid Y flight to Singapore from Sydney. This flight is a Qantas flight.

Not wishing to risk missing the connection for the outbound flight we are scheduled to fly into Singapore late on the previous EVENING (Well technically 2 days by date before but 26 hours between flights)

As we are connecting through Changi will we be able to use the Silverkris lounge on arrival and come and go as we please during that 26 hour layover.

From what I have read we could take a nap or shower in the lounge. We could utilise the free city tour and visit Jewel I guess to pass time.

Possible book a 6 hour stay in the airport Hotel.

Happy to receive suggestions.

Cheers

We have done it twice now.

Only real downside is that the late departure means a long wait at MLE which is pretty underwhelming.

The B787 has replaced the A330s on this route which are much better for the overnight flight.

Anything in particular you would like to know?

You didnt like the 777 F product Genji? We loved it. Actually better than the new Suites. The intimate cabin was very nice, and the service was impeccable. We were the only 2 in the 4 seat cabin, so the crew proactively offered us the window seats for sleeping, and the aisle seats for dining and interacting. It was great. I'd choose the 777 over the new suites for any flight.

hi guys, if I wanted to do a mixed class redemption but the F segment is only on waitlist, do I call up to waitlist the whole trip or can I waitlist the F segment online, book the full trip in J and if the WL clears call up to then get them to sub in the F segment?

Does it matter if the WL and confirmed bookings have different PNRs?

If you are staying 100% airside - and do not enter Singapore in the entire 26 hour period, you can come and go from the SQ lounge.

If you are intending to enter Singapore, you would only be able to use the lounge immediately on arrival (assuming you have you boarding pass) and then again once you clear immigration prior to your flight.

You cannot come and go from the sterile immigration area as this is a violation of Singapore law (ie - you can only be in the departures area for the purpose of catching a flight - not to visit the lounge for dinner).

Arrival - enter Singapore once only (to visit Jewel) and then back into sterile departures area - ok to come and go.

Arrival, enter Singapore to take tour, clear immigration again to use lounge, sleep in hotel, enter Singapore again to see Jewel, re-enter to use lounge and board flight = not allowed.

For 26 hours I'd recommend clearing immigration and going to a hotel.

Six Senses replied so I have some planning to do to get in and out of the Maldives without wait times at the airport.
