SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

All of our bookings are gone now. Some of our miles could not be returned as they were over the 3 year time limit. We have many miles saved up in a bank credit card if flying restarts.

@cove when you cancelled the flights that had expired miles were you given the option to extend for 12 months or do they just automatically disappear. I am only asking as I have miles expiring throughout the first half of 2021 and am planning to book flights this year for travel in Sep/Oct 21. If I had to cancel the flights does SQ allow the expired miles to be extended if I am willing to pay the fees, I just do not like losing miles and if able to extend I could rebook for some time in 2022. It is a new one for us as we have been able to use miles without having to worry about expiry dates.

Ours cannot come back to our accounts as the miles have expired by quite a while now.
We booked ahead of the 3 year expiry for travel in what would have been the fourth year. In the past we did get to use some expired miles but it could be a year or two before international flying gets going.

Was emailed this week our October booking has been cancelled. I took a brief look and from what I can see I need to fill in a form to have the points refunded.

Has anyone been through this process. Some of the points were due to expire in June which were part of the booking so I am thinking it’s better to call them and confirm what will happen to those points rather than just fill in the form.

For anyone who has been refunded by one way or another, what has happened to the expiry date on those points?

Cheers

6 more bookings cancelled this morn - are you allowed to swear on AFF?

Most torturous to cancel was R SYD-SIN-FRA-JFK Sep 21, 2020 - enough to drive you to drink huh?
Bookings cancelled yesterday via online cancellation form and first pts and $s back in accounts this morn - gotta love the speed and efficiency with which SQ operate huh Rooey? 👍

Did you talk to SQ at all about being able to extend considering COVID? I am very nervous we are going to lose nearly 500,000 points on a December 2020 booking as we won't be able to travel and the miles will have otherwise expired so they can't be refunded.

Pretty happy with how quickly miles and taxes are being refunded. 3 bookings cancelled for the next 3 months and all points and taxes back in under a week.

However, the long term redemption availability has tanked! Tricky to get 3 J seats and barely 1 First seat to Europe. Plenty of routes have zero - perhaps these routes are on the chopping block?

plenty of routes under review because the A380 isn’t coming back soon, or possibly ever, so that might partly explain why F Points seats aren’t plenitudinous... 4 Seats in 777 F, 6 in new Suites and 12 in our preferred old Suites.. SQ current flts in/out of Aust are quarantined -constrained for pax no’s and might not be operating 777s much and A350s don’t hv F.

We have a Dec F booking SYD ZRH and back home from LHR, but we and SQ know from the time we booked (in May, without payment/subj to review mid Nov) that scheds, aircraft, classes and seat alloc could not be gnteed from May booking to Dec flts. and for the last month it’s been apparent that: A) our govt won’t let us out, B) we won’t/don’t want to go and C) SQ won’t get us way to Europe in suiteS anyway.

Am I doing something wrong...? Cancelled a booking online on 29 July, and still have no points or $$s refunded.... Do I need to call?

Did you cancel from within the booking? All mine were points bookings and complied with their current travel waiver. I think the condition was Booked before March for travel by October.

Yeah, booked late last year for travel in September. Flights were cancelled, so only had booking reference to be able to nominate whether I wanted a refund or credit.

SQ previously mentioned they were refunding in flight date order... my July flight was cancelled in early June, but not refunded until July.

I know there are some on this thread who do not believe the PPS Club is worth attaining or maintaining but they are doing a few things to support their existing top-tier passengers. Previously, they automatically renewed membership for 12 months and now they have reduced the Value needed to renew by 50% from March 2021 to February 2022. So I only need to spend S$12,500 to get another 12 months membership thru to end September 2022.

They've also announced a few ways to earn PPS Value on the ground but you really need to be in Singapore to take full advantage of these.

I still think the partner PPS membership, the First Class check-in and lounge access, quick and easy access to the Singapore call centre, first availability to the best seats and plenty of annual Krisshop vouchers make the Club worthwhile. I just wish they still had their Lifetime PPS available.

And my miles don't expire after three years! :)

Hey Kevrosmith. How did you go? I cancelled another award this week and already have the points back. You may need to chase yours up.

I have confirmed J award bookings with SQ to CAN/HKG in April next year. Checking the flights now, looks like the flights i am on are no longer sold. In fact, if they were to place me to alternate flights I would need to stay SIN overnight.

Given the state of COVID and most likely no more travel until vaccine is taken, I think I will get them cancelled next year. I just have to check with the CSR if any of the points would expire though. This COVID is causing all sorts of problems on hard 3 year expiry of points.

Any points that should be expiring in the next few months have been extended for another 6 months.

Got an email on Tuesday. Points returned to account and funds came back to card yesterday. As others have indicated, looks like they are potentially processing based on travel date.

I have seen quite a bit about Qatar and Emirates cancelling flights back to Australia. Edit - well not so much cancelling flights but continual changes and booting people. Does anyone know what is happening with Singapore? Dr FM needs to return to Australia in February and fly into Brisbane given we have no idea what domestic borders are going to be open. I thought flying Singapore might be safer than the others? She is going to book in business to help her chances of not being booted off a plane.

Just got a cancellation email from SQ on cancelling my SQ288 SYD-CBR-SIN(-CAN) J awards for 6 people booked for April next year. I have requested for full refund of miles and cash component. Not sure how long it will take SQ to do.

It is a shame as I was actually looking forward to fly out of CBR internationally for the first time. I've been flying in and out of CBR regularly to other domestic cities for 2 years. Quite a nice airport.

Now I am waiting for SQ to cancel my return J award HKG-SIN-SYD in late April.

has anyone experienced like in the article recently?
would kind of suck to get offered no refills, no chit chat, much less service, all food brought out at once

makes it even harder to justify the difference in cost
