Don't forget that you don't have to have *travelled* before the points expire, you just have to have *booked*. So if you have no need to burn the points now you can afford to wait until they confirm there are no more extensions before making any decisions. Personally I reckon they'll keep extending things for a while longer.
I've got points that should have expired in *2019* that are still alive. Originally made a booking to the UK just before they would have expired in Aug 2019, for travel in June 2020. That was cancelled obviously with the points redeposited and validity extended. Last year we made a new speculative booking for August 2021, which is now obviously not going to be possible either. They're currently offering unlimited changes on bookings so have just been able to move this booking out to June 2022. I wasn't able to do this online -- when I called up it had to be escalated so that someone could calculate the cost difference (there was a small increase in taxes since the original booking). But they put the new dates on hold for me and called me back a couple of days later to complete the booking. I didn't have to pay the call centre charge as it couldn't be done online.
As I understand it you wouldn't normally be able to do that, because the ticket validity is one year out from when you *booked*, but they're currently allowing unlimited changes up to the end of September and one further complimentary change after that, with each change reissuing the ticket with a new validity period. That means I could potentially push this out to 2023 if the border doesn't open in 2022...
