SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

SIN-SYD J saver January yah!
There actually seems to be reasonably return options. I was pondering that but going to SYD-LHR ret in Mar/Apr 2x J. That will exactly chew up my VA transfers!

I have lots of points to burn, but I have made a good start..

January MEL - LHR x2 in 1st class plus return
March MEL - CDG x 2 in 1st class plus return
June MEL - CDG x 2 in 1st class plus return
No Saver redemptions in 1st class that I could see - so that is over 3m points used in 6 months.

A couple of these have the MEL - Singapore leg in Business which I may change later if they load
more 1st class options.

It's great to have some serious holidays to look forward to.

Well done!
Did you book MEL to SIN separately to get the different classes?

Have been on a bit of a fare roller-coaster over the last few days. (Long post but some insights that might be helpful to some)

Needed to get flights back from England as very happily now able to attend my god-daughters wedding in December
Had already booked a Y+/J redemption with CX for outbound.
Mrs andye needs to return to work on the floor in Emergency on the Wednesday and would prefer to be back Tuesday a.m. Keen to leave her as fresh as possible post-flight
No redemption availability SIN-SYD was released until 22 Oct

Initially booked
Revenue Standard Economy SQ LHR-SIN-SYD via Amex Online Travel (wanted to use travel credit) getting back late Tues

Then found out the LHR-SYD leg was for a Vaccinated Travel Lane flight which we couldn't take as would have transmitted HKG on the outbound

Longish phone calls to Amex and eventually changed to SQ LHR-SIN-SYD in Flexi Y/Y with earlier departure

Spotted a Saver J leg ZRH-SIN for upgrade but couldn't get a response from Amex before it was gone

Then found an Advantage J leg MAN-SIN. Eventually got Amex to change flights to flexi Y SQ MAN-SIN-SYD

Long waits for SQ service but after going through 3 different agents told that cannot upgrade the leg (not sure if due to UK APD tax issues, travel agent booking issues or redemption v upgrade inventory) Also told unable to have 2 PNRs transiting SIN currently

Then found a CX J leg CDG-SIN and booked CX CDG--HKG-SYD in Y+ and upgrading the first leg to J. Relatively easy process with CX call-centre

Woke up in morning and found a J/J Advantage SQ redemption MAN-SIN-SYD online. Didn't have enough miles but made an Amex transfer-internet wisdom has it that these can take 12-48 hours but mine went through in less than 2. Still available and clicked through but wouldn't accept credit card. Assumed the second legs had gone-disappointing

A couple of hours went past with me trying various EU-Oz options and then found LHR-SIN-SYD in J/J. Even better arriving in SYD Tuesday morning

Clicked through and again didn't accept credit card. Disappointed again. Waitlisted MAN and FRA Advantage J/J (CPH, MUC and MXP also available for waitlist but I couldn't take as VTL flights)

Checked the upcoming bookings and the LHR-SIN-SYD had a PNR as reserved

Got on the phone to SQ. Waited 45 minutes before phone reception cut out in Bunnings basement carpark and had to start again. Another hour on the phone and, happy days, now have 2x J/J Advantage redemptions landing at best time with no worries about positioning flights (admittedly at the cost of hefty UK APD)

So, it's not the most economical redemption ever (Advantage, UK APD and USD400 of revenue fare cancellation fees) but I'm very happy with it given our lack of flexibility in dates, Covid issues and what must be a whole lot of competition for redemptions

I did waste a lot of time booking the original fare via Amex rather than direct

CX currently smashing SQ for callcentre responsiveness

My redemptions aren't till April so I haven't really paid attention to if it's a VTL flight or not.. does it really make a difference 6 months out?

Hi everyone
..looking forward to AFFer tales as my favourite airline spirits me away from Melbourne in 22… good thread (just found it 7 years too late)…

Wow, what a saga andye. Not flying for so long I'm having to remember what all the flying shorthand. What is "J/J Advantage redemption"?

I transferred points from Amex to SQ and they appeared within 10 minutes 😀 👏.

OTOH, points transferred from the Dragon last Tuesday haven't appeared in my SQ account.😟.

Just meant both legs in Business
Krisflyer redemptions come in 2 types-Saver and the more points-expensive Advantage with different availabilities
😀

As usual AFF wiser than the wider WWW

Finally found and booked J Saver mid year to Europe.
Onward to CDG and coming back from LHR.
Looking to go to Portugal and Italy.

Also have a March trip to Japan, but that's not for this thread.

It's great to be able to begin planning.
One of the things I missed over the last 2 years.

Oh that's right. Haven't looked at the SQ booking page in so long, but it's coming back to me now. ;)

I had CX points returned in April following flight cancellations so waiting a little longer before I book again, probably Aug-Oct 22.

Hey All, Wondering for some tips here.. I have booked 2 x fares flying MEL to SIN in J mid December.

At the time singapore had not listed return flights to Australia so I didn't book (Bangkok > SIN > Mel) but now they are all online.

Wondering if anyone has ever managed to add a return leg to a booking by paying cash?

So flying Melbourne to Singapore on points then paying extra after the fact for the return trip as its available? Would that work or will I need to cough up the $800+ for the one way economy flight vs. $1200 if I were to book return flights there and back?

Note to myself: For the SQ Gold Status promo, to transfer some points from the Dragon in Jan 2022 to test the speed of arrival. It would be annoying to move points for the promo, just to have them arrive too late to qualify.

What’s the deadline and minimum amount to transfer?

just transfer on 1st Feb 2022, you need minimum 10,000 KF miles per transfer, so 20,000 Dragon points.
SQ keeps points alive till the end of that month anyway

Its what I'm planning to do anyway
