SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Ah CE how I've missed your soliloquies on AFF. I hope for yours (and my) sake that SQ R/F returns to MEL soon (whether on 218 or otherwise).

At the moment April 2022 onwards it seems that MEL-SIN segments are operated on 777-300ER metal but that's a 4x F cabin which hampers chances for easy F redemptions...
So for the sake of above mentioned ‘friend’ who after 19 red wines at last nights Olive Tree dinner became quite argumentative when I informed him there is currently ZERO R or F offerings out of MEL can someone else pls confirm if this is the case?

I have seen no info as to when SQ might recommence R or F service but if intl borders stay open and numbers build I assume it will occur at some point in time?

Maybe even b4 said ‘friends’ F rdpt booking rolls around on April 1?

And again said ‘friend’ had trouble comprehending the fact that SQ can and have at next to no notice subbed metal on routes where F cabins disappear and replaced by aircraft with no F cabin onboard.

This happened to me 3 years ago when I was taking 3 of my sisters with me to be China for a holiday - I had 2 x F rdpts + 2 x J rdpts on 218 - a couple days b4 flt we were advised of of sub and F no longer available so the 2 F rdpts downgraded to J on 218.

It was just too late to change plans and we did get F lounge access in MEL and TPR / F lounge access in SIN but 2 of the girls missed an F sleep.

And there was no refund of any miles as technically it fell into mixed class rdpt booking which prices at highest cabin rate. The 2 F tix holders were offered a one way J->F cabin upgrade MEL-SIN to use anytime in future but that had to be used by tix holder themselves and could not be passed on.

One tix was in my name so I did subsequently use it but the other one went unused.

Oh how I do miss SQ R/F.

Yep showing 4 flts daily all on 777 and can book all classes except F - hopefully we will see change in that soon - but hopefully R / F will also be reinstated on ALL routes on theor own metal as onwards to FRA in April only showing LH as bookable.

the SQ service we're all missing...

I hope competition will spur on SIA.

Today I saw my first A380 at Sydney airport in virtually 18 months - an Emirates....

Parked just next to the Airport tunnel road, alongside a JAL B787 & as a Malaysian Airlines plane taxied past while an Air NZ one took off on the old N/S runway.

Such a nice sight to behold.

Certainly Nothing F for April that I can book ex Mel . Syd is possible but only on the a380 (I’m talking early Apr here..) but all other scheds thru to Lhr - even tho they show 777 metal - are no R or F zones. Think you right that they will sub smaller/no F metals in response to weight of bookings. I gather from something recently that SQs current sched runs until March, so if you are looking for F further forward it’s patience patience grasshopper…

It's been a long time but we are flying MEL -LHR in late December.
Business class to Singapore and 1st class from Singapore.
It looks like some SQ lounges are closed. Any idea of what we can expect to get into at Melbourne and Singapore? I miss the private room - it has been 2 years...

Mel lounge is apparently open : Singapore Airlines reopens Sydney and Melbourne SilverKris lounges

and think I saw A ref to a Roped-off section in the new J lounge for F pax in Spore .

Would be useful for us all if you cud post a little TR or Lounge review for our general edification on your travel, partic on the evolving quarantin/covid test regime ?

As much as I like SQ at times they are so easy to deal with while at others they can be testing. I had originally booked Mrs&MissM J rewards MEL-LHR and when booking the return flights, FRA-ADL were released I wanted these in the same itinerary. So called up had the new flights added but then it took around 3-4 days and a few calls for SQ to work out the additional fees and taxes. I am in the process of changing their flights to MEL-JFK-SEA-ADL, so far so good I can see the original flights are still confirmed and the new flights are showing as reserved. I have also changed my FRA-ADL flight to SEA-ADL which is currently waitlisted, again this was no easy feat as the agent wanted to charge the advantage rate and after explaining had the confirmed SIN-ADL on the date of travel there was some checking, double checking, ask the supervisor he realised he seemed to understand that it was only the SEA-SIN flight that needed to be waitlisted.

Now my whinge is over, IMO if SQ had waived the points redeposit fee during covid there would be little or no reason to call them. SQ still has some of the best points availability for multiple travellers but anything outside of a simple return booking gets complicated. I am also appreciative of the time to ticket rules that was offered, now 6-8 months not the 3 days I was used to.

Hoping to get a greater audience here as I posted in the SQ refund thread without a reply.

Looking for advice and or any ideas on the best way forward.

I have tickets sitting there that were cancelled by SQ this year and if I cancel and get the refund I will be in the situation of needing more points to rebook due to the increased points cost for the flights. There may even be a chance I need to fight to get all the points back as some were due to expire during the ticket period.

Latest email I got from SQ was if I did change the booking it would need to be completed by 30 June 2022. All travel booked with flight credits must be rebooked and completed before this date.

I am still unsure what way to go with this and any advice would be appreciated

Do I just need to accept the fate, cancel and see how many points come back and hope to earn the difference into the account or pay for a top up to use them for a future booking?

cheers

If any are cancelled, they should be able to reinstate them.

I am due to fly tommorow morning from BKK Singapore with TG in the morning and later that eve with SQ to BOM both krisflyer redemptions but 2 separate bookings .
Does anyone know if TG and SQ currently interline ? Ie can I check my bags all the way through to BOM in BKK ?
If not will I have to clear immigration in Singapore , collect my bags and recheck in ?is that even possible without prior arrangements ?
I am travelling on an aus passport and have my negative pcr and international Covid vaccination etc .
Thanks in advance.

You should be fine. SIN is good at getting your bags organised while you stay airside. Assuming the *A airlines won't interline - ask nicely all the same.

Apologies for going off topic - but is the phone number for SQ 02 8228 1188 still in use? When I call this number the message I'm getting is this call cannot be connected. I am trying to change a redemption booking and it cannot be done online.

That’s the number I have and it now doesn’t work. I wasn’t aware that it had been changed or removed. 13 10 11 is listed on their website.

I need to reconsider my answer. At the moment SIN is not allowing pax to transit if they are on two separate PNRs arriving and departing. So good luck with your travel, and let us know how you get on.

I’m wondering if the Thai airlines staff for SQ at check in in bkk didn’t know this - I managed to negotiate myself through . Phew !
