SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Thought I'd post this question here as this is the most active SQ thread.

Does anyone know how to find out the expiry date of all your miles on the SQ app - it seems you can but I just con't figure out how to do so.

While I'm at it - here's another question:

We are currently booked in early July as follows: SYD-SIN (overnight but < 24 ours) - FRA - the SYD-SIN flight shows as VTL - so unless current rules change we would require to get tested and isolate during our short overnighter (at significant cost) - but if we changed to SYD-SIN (2 hour connection) - FRA - even though the SYD-SIN also shows as VTL there would be no testing requirement as we would not enter SIN.

Go:
My Account > Miles > Miles Validity

All I get is "no miles expiring in the next 6 months" ???? this is on the iPhone App
I believe you can only see the next 12 mths window. Even the website only does that.

if you go to Miles\statement on SQ website you can at least see when you earned miles then add 3 yrs (less any you’ve managed to - First In / First Out).

I guess this will remain an SQ mystery - a 30+ minutes phone call got a bit more information but I'm not sure I trust it.. I'm concerned that with Covid continuing to disrupt travel plans into 2022 - more trips will be cancelled refunding miles that may expire before they can be used. thanks everyone for your help.

Any experiences out there in the AFF brains trust regarding booking award J redemptions on the non-stops between SIN/JFK (SQ23/24) or SIN/LAX (SQ37/38)?

Trying to piece together an itinerary MEL-SIN-JFK and LAX-SIN-MEL and there's Saver J space but only the transiting SIN-FRA-JFK and LAX-NRT-SIN options show up.
Not even an Advantage option shows up for the non-stops, it's as if they don't exist.
The direct ones are much more preferred in this instance.

Would love to hear of any successes in booking on the direct ULRs.

A belated Merry Christmas to all.

@MathNerd IME I cannot recall seeing any availability on SQ24 (pre covid included) and have had to book SQ26 via FRA, travelled this route a few times and currently holding bookings for next year. Coming back I have found availability on SQ35 LAX-SIN (pre covid) this was on one of the UHL 2 class aircraft, when searching in Oct/Nov for flights next year LAX/SFO/SEA-SIN were available for x2 and some x3 in J. I ended up booking x2 J SEA-SIN-ADL and I am currently waitlisted for the same flight, leaving SEA suited us due to the shorter connection time in SIN. I have not looked recently and maybe SQ are playing with their schedule as the SEA-SIN flights have been changed to SEA-YYZ-SIN.

I was interested to see that the direct service to Rome now goes via Copenhagen. So that’s a new 5th freedom flight, CPH-FCO-CPH. The MXP-BCN-MXP 5th freedom flight continues.

Thanks @Matt_01 for that, much appreciated.
You're right - they are in the midst of schedule changes at the moment (I've received schedule changes for another trip we're taking) so that's playing havoc on things all round.

Will try again later. On that note though, MEL-SIN-EWR seems to giving options (however mostly at Advantage level), and of course it's the direct SIN-EWR ULR service due to this being the usual. However no guarantees if this stays well into the future given their ULR SIN-JFK service as well.

Thanks again!

When are you looking to book for? I get options coming up when I search for Dec 22. Need to search to EWR for NYC though.

Thanks @NoName for looking that up.

Good news is I was able to get MEL-SIN-EWR to show up (mentioned in last post too).

However, the other way starting at LAX doesn't show the non stop service (example below showing as far out in the calendar as it goes):

Strange indeed!

I would like to change my redemption booking to the later flight. It kept giving me an error when trying to change so I called. The agent confirmed there was an availability online but told me she couldn't change it as (her) offline availability was different. I would need to cancel the current flight and pay the fee then book the new one online. Is this normal? Not sure if HUCA will work.

Apologies, I misread your post as MEL-SIN-LAX.

I am seeing some of what you are after ex-LAX come up on advantage pricing. Eg 13 Dec. but yes, doesn’t seem to be every day.

Would you consider the non-stop flight ex-SFO? I see this available on every day I looked, often at the saver level.

Thanks @NoName. Yes at this stage any West coast departure would suit.
We're planning on arriving on the East coast (JFK/EWR) and then depart from the West coast (LAX/SEA/SFO).
Let's see how the availability pans out when it comes time to book.

Cheers for the assistance!

Looking for some advice re expiring miles, used in a booking which I need to cancel or change. The miles were due to expire in 2021 which would have been extended to May 2022 if I'd not used them. But when I started the online cancellation process, it's stated that those expired miles won't be refunded. I will only get the remainder of the miles used in the booking.

Is this accurate or would calling get me the full refund?

Changing the date on this trip is problematic; not sure when it may be possible. I'd prefer cancelling and using them for an alternative trip that I'm more likely to take but my absolute preference is not losing the miles.

They are going to take the miles as if they are expired because their system has not been programmed to correctly extend miles which have been used in a booking. Then you are going to have to call and have them reinstated. See my recent experience in the below thread from post 47 onwards:

Wishing you luck and hoping you don’t have to call several times with escalating levels of irritation like I had to.

@NoName, thank you for your reply. I've just read your posts in the other thread and I admire both your patience and your perseverance to get the points reinstated. I shall have a rethink on whether to change the date instead of cancelling; or I shall block out some time (and patience) to follow your lead.

If you have another trip in mind, and you don’t want to fight the call centre over the return of expired miles, then the current change policy is more flexible than it usually would be—you can change the routing as well as the dates, with no fees apart from the miles/tax difference (if any).

I successfully changed a 2021 IST-SIN-MEL booking (with otherwise expired miles) to BCN-SIN-MEL in 2022 a while back: https://www.singaporeair.com/en_UK/...information-centre/complimentary-rebooking/#/

You do have to use the call centre for this, but it was pretty straightforward.

You can do this as many times as you like on any booking up to the end of March, and once more after that if need be (plus the end date for unlimited changes has been extended multiple times already so may get pushed out again). Even if the offer doesn’t get extended you could potentially get a booking out to early 2024 with this policy, regardless of the miles validity (i.e., use the unlimited changes to move it to ~Feb 2023 in March 22 (you need to move it before the booking date, but you can just move it multiple times if need be), then use your additional change 12 months later before the booking date to move it to early 2024…)
