SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I had a look at a couple of bookings I have to see if BTC is showing as available. NRT in early March and CDG at the end of March. Both bookings are showing that meal options will be available 7 days prior to departure. Strange, but it seems this may be across the board at the moment.

How far in advance does Book the Cook open at the moment? I thought I read four months somewhere, but it's just over three months ahead of our flights and I can't seem to find any Book the Cook options.

T-7 days and ex-SIN, SYD, MEL, LHR, FRA, MUC, SEA, ICN and JFK in F/J only.

Thanks. Our long-haul departures are from MEL and SIN so they're covered.

Do you know if there's somewhere to check online if a dietary special meal is recorded, or if it's not, to make the request? My wife is coeliac so I'd like to get GFML on the record in the interim. I looked in the passenger details parts of the booking but didn't find it there.

It is in MMB. Find the 'Manage' button about 2/3 of the way down once you're inside the booking.

Looks like Singapore is now accepting a recovery certificate or positive test result dated at least 7 days before travel for transit passengers. Makes them a much more reliable choice for a trip to Europe.

Hello all, genuinely asking for a friend on this one: they have an FCO-SIN-SYD for September 2022 in J that is now FCO-CPH-SIN-SYD. I'm trying to understand what has happened here and why there are no direct FCO-SIN options for them anymore. Personally, as it has a stopover opportunity, seems like a good chance to check out CPH. But they don't agree. I did some research and came across some info about 'fifth-freedom' but sorry I'm a bit lost.

As SQ has done for some time with MXP and BCN (and MUC-MAN etc. in the past), they maybe feel they do not have enough traffic to justify a flight to each location so have combined FCO and CPH into one journey. It also gives them some limited opportunity to pick up internal European passengers between two city pairs for someone who might want international comfort between European cities. That's where their 'fifth-freedom' rights are used.

Are you sure its SQ metal on the FCO/CPH leg ? Did a similar search recently from Rome. Nothing direct to Spore but instead options were from Rome to Munich with partner LH, to position for SQ from there. They have a very conservative schedule at present and plenty of irregular connections. Heard from T/A recently that 3 months forward is as far are SQ prepared to be definite. We noticed it when trying to book a UK trip in May. Leaving from Hobart is easy enough via either Mel or Syd, but coming home means either 5 or 7hr wait at Spore -or- an overnight at Mel or Syd.

SQ 351 from FCO to CPH - last operated Jan 26 by 9V-SMV an SQ 350-900 then onwards the same day to SIN.

Thanks for these replies peeps, appreciated. Personally for myself I have my own SYD-SIN-LHR and FRA-SIN-SYD J redemptions in Sept-Oct. I would have preferred to come back from FCO but there were just no options when I booked, which was as early as I could.

Just a quick question.
If I recall F from aus to Europe is 306k points and about $400 in taxes

I just got a quote from Melbourne to Osaka in J and it was 91k points + $122 in taxes

Is this right? 91kx2 for return =182k points to Japan in J. Seems a bit high comparing

I realise you’re looking to use SQ miles, but just for reference, American Airlines charges 40K points Business Class from Australia to Japan with very low fees. And these are Direct flights with partner airlines QF and JL.

You're absolutely right: it's a real sweet spot in the AA program and well worth taking advantage of if you can.

Unfortunately the East Coast of Aus has copped the full brunt of SQ's many devaluations in recent years. It wasn't long ago that we could book MEL-SIN-HKG return in J Saver for 85k miles.

Groan just tried to make a KF booking and my passport has expired. It was a F seat on my birthday too. Will renew passport today but if course seat will be gone by then :(

Yes as daft009 stated, you can book with an expired passport.

I made my current Award booking back in July with an expired passport and as I do not fly till June this year, with no earlier international trips, I am not going to renew it for a few more months yet.
