SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

SQ238 yesterday MEL-SIN on 773 - it finally hit me - F on a top tier carrier - the F seats do not even have a USB port - in the year 2015 with so much competition from so many serious players this shortcoming is just way too archaic - time for another email to SAA Feedback.

I think the email should read

All 777 Aircraft going to/from MEL and SYD should be 777WN. That way no issue!

Unless its A380 R class

As much as I love SQ i find it very odd that they operate 2 completely different J products to both MEL and SYD. Its confusing to the average traveller. CX have a much better strategy where all Australian flights have an identical product.

It isn't always 77WN the aircraft rotate, I had a 77W last week.
OK maybe it has been redeployed elsewhere - its Aussie assignment was always going to be temporary as they are sharing the new metal across routes to give many destinations a taste of the new - or it may have just been subbed for that day - again a call to KF in SIN will get you the answer.

Went to redeem our 2 x S$40 Changi Vouchers and gor tripped up something I never knew - if your transit in SIN exceeds 24hrs you are ineligible for Changi Dollars - I never knew that before - best part of 1/2 bott Dom down the tube right there.

On the matter of Dom - 2 botts for S$380 in the major DF stores right now:

But there is a little DF store in T2 called Vine and Leaf - their Dom / Krug prices always cheaper than the large outlets - they had Dom on sale at S$180/bott.

Now here is a sight I never see - queues at immig in SIN:

But then again this was in T1 - that is where the non descript carriers like QF / CX / TG etc operate - you would never see lines like this in T2 where SQ / MI operate:

Or in T3 almost exclusively the domain of SQ:

not sure about the old rules, but the new ones reflect the 24 hour requirement:

  • CDVs will only be issued to passengers in transit within 24 hours at Changi Airport. This is calculated from the Scheduled Time of Arrival (STA) of the arriving flight to Changi Airport to the Scheduled Time of Departure (STD) of the connecting departure flight out of Changi Airport.
  • CDVs will be issued to passengers in transit as long as 1 leg of their transit duration is within 24 hours at Changi Airport.

Yep spot on MEL - the old ones could have been same also I cannot remember - just a memo to others with >24hr transits - ie a Stopover - you are not eligible for Changi Dollars.

I'm almost prepared to take your word for it. :)
But it would need to be a world away from the generality of PH.
Where do you rate it against other offerings?

Right up there pj - certainly not as intense as Krug - stacks up really well against VCLGD - Cruiserette is a Dom drinker - her face lit up when she tasted it - YES I understand PH doesn't knock your socks off but whether the company or the mood tonight it really hit the spot.

Have never seen it in Dan's maybe somebody else has seen it offered around elsewhere?

Can anyone clarify what would happen for the following? Next month myself and her ladyship will be flying into SIN from PVG and staying in Singapore for two nights before continuing onto MEL for a couple of weeks. On the way back we'll only be in SIN for about 3 hours. So it seems that we'll both be able to claim the vouchers, if I'm reading this right. But I want to confirm if we can claim them on the outbound leg of the journey so we can buy gifts for people in MEL or do we have to wait for the return leg to claim?

Quite cunning, isn't it?
