SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Also I'm flying Business Class out of either Zurich or Munich in November. I have tentatively chosen Zurich due to the A380 Zurch-SIN, is that what you all would've done?

Back from CDG with a great R class experience
Managed a J conversion to R at check in for the +1
Not sure if this has been done before but why not ask
Would love to know if works for others?

Setting the bar high there for other AFFers infinity! Lovely pictures of what you get on the Suites run. I never bother taking pictures of anything so I am glad you have done the shots for everyone.
Had never thought of going Krug with the caviar so there is a fresh idea. Mrscove drinks no alcohol so I struggle with her share.

About 5 or 6 pages into current Krisworld magazine there is a promo coupon that gets you a free gift from the upper level of that fabulous duty free store smack bang in middle T3 - it's quite an onerous procedure though - you take the mag with you - proceed upstairs to the Raffles Bar - take a seat at the bar - order a free sample coughtail from the bartender - I chose a Singapore Sling - when finished show him / her the promo offer and collect your free gift packaged coughtail gift. Mine was a Jigger (coughtail measure) and a coughtail Stirrer - don't miss it if passing through SIN.

Hey guys, if booking a suite each for my wife and I, is it an option to make it really private and not be disturbed? Or can the flight attendants still see through . Nothing dodgy I promise!

No - there are numerous ways to look into the suite if someone wants to check in on you.

However, with the doors closed, no one is going to disturb you unless they have to either because (a) there is a safety requirement, (b) it's close to landing and you really need to wake up, (c) you have pressed the call bell or, (d) you have requested service at a certain time for whatever reason (for example a meal, refreshments, or to get changed)

So I wandered over to Changi $s counter last week only to find this:

47 people waiting in the queue to collect their $40 Vouchers - or indeed $20 if short haul - so wandered down to duty free to collect my free gift and returned 30mins later - now only 34 in the queue:

Needless to say I did not wait - free vintage PH and Veuve in TPR was just begging me to attack them.

Just thought I let you guys know an experience of mine recently with SQ.

We(myself, wife and son) recently did a trip of Mel->Sin->REP on SQ (all J saver redemptions). While previously I have had success multiple times with 3 J saver redemptions to India, I could only get confirmation of 2 J savers to REP and the other was waitlisted. Notably, the website or the call centre did not offer the ability to book higher J redemptions. In my past experience with SQ, all my waitlisted flights have cleared - but in this instance I had no luck.

While I was on the same flight MEL-SIN, the next leg of SIN->REP was on a completely different flight to the family. Inspite of multiple calls of KF, all they could do was to put a note to have my waitlist clear to enable us fly together. I could however book a revenue J ticket to REP online - I chose not to.

After we reached SIN, I contacted the guys at krisflyer T3 to see whether they could bump me on to the same flight as my family. This was at 10:30 pm. They could see 4 J seats available (the REP flight was scheduled at 8:30 am) but were advised by krisflyer call centre that they could only re-issue the ticket and bump me on this flight in the morning. The ticket reissue cost me SGD $100.

The interesting point as told by the SilverKris lounge guy in T3 was that "SQ coded flights (for SE Asia) are generous in clearing waitlists and MI (assuming Silk Air) coded flights would not release waitlists beyond the current standard 2 redemptions for J, in spite of empty seats on the plane".

So all in all, for large families travelling on redemptions, there is the options of getting (a) waitlists cleared if you approach SilverKris lounge staff and (b) exercise caution while waitlisting MI coded flights for onward redemption travels to SE.

Hold on there,..... Are you saying you may have left +1 in J if this upgrade hadn't come through!!??
Braver than me........

Well it was a case of R over and J/R back for +1 to enjoy an all expenses paid two weeks in Italy and 1 week in Turkey

If she didden like the availebility that SQ provided she could have always passed and let me find a +2 who would be happy to tour on that basis ;)

Can anyone clarify what would happen for the following? Next month myself and her ladyship will be flying into SIN from PVG and staying in Singapore for two nights before continuing onto MEL for a couple of weeks. On the way back we'll only be in SIN for about 3 hours. So it seems that we'll both be able to claim the vouchers, if I'm reading this right. But I want to confirm if we can claim them on the outbound leg of the journey so we can buy gifts for people in MEL or do we have to wait for the return leg to claim?

Answer was YES, I'm pleased to report.

On an unrelated note, MEL inbound immigration was a joke yesterday. Even with an express pass, it took about half an hour just to get through immigration. The regular line was stretching back nearly as far as the SQ lounge! Once again, just like outbound immigration, the mysterious extra staff booths sat empty gathering dust.

Three of us are heading off in Suites this week. My son is impressed with Tiger beer on tap in SQ business class lounge even though he will be ushered off to the TPR. Kris Miles use at their finest is my opinion.

What age do in premium cabins do you have to start paying for their own seats? My wife and I have flown Business in A380 and I swear I could've fit a thin family of 4 on those 2 seats haha.
I was stretched out on one seat reading, with a baby happily playing on the same seat with her toys.

had my first time back in SQ J for awhile yesterday on the 380 doing SIN-SYD, boy the J lounge in SIN is a letdown now - found it little better than the Skyview or QF lounges at SIN (limited food, only 1 beer, bathrooms really ratty and very overcrowded in the evening etc). havent been in the silverkris lounge for a few years now but the drop in standards was jarring - lounge staff all seemed very junior with limited service experience.

on board previously i had always sat in row 96 but this was a mixed Y/J upper deck config so got stuck with a standard J seat, wasn't aware how limited the foot space is when in bed mode - at 6 foot I couldn't stretch out and sleep on my back, had to do a fetal position to fit in fully (still a better bed I think in terms of width and padding than CX). service was again very patchy - cold and robotic, not a smile to be seen and all very junior crew who shouldn't have been in J I think. The supper meal service seems very spartan - very small main portion with no bread or salad and a tiny bowl of fruit for dessert, I know it is supper but we could have with a little more after the disappointing food offering in the lounge. Breakfast was offered and was "American" (without eggs or bacon) or the Seafood noodles from the supper service.

I usually do this route in QF J and always considered SQ to be a cut above the A330 Skybed and QF service but this has really made me reevaluate booking with them in future - beyond the flat bed which QF now matches I think they have some serious competitive issues now on this route.
