SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I am considering buying 2 Y fares from SIN-BNE and then transferring VA points to KF to upgrade to J.

Do SQ often have sales for this sector or is there a better website to monitor for good prices ?

be careful. You need to confirm the fare you're booking is upgradeable. You'll have to bokk what SQ call a flexi fare. On a dummy booking for SIN - SYD return in Oct you'd be able to get a sweet deal fare for 863 return but a flexi will set you back 1513.

And so to our return from Europe adventure - we had R ZRH-SIN / F SIN-MEL booked for 12mths - all perfect scheduling. So to position at ZRH for return we flew from BIO on Swiss in J - very comfortable and enjoyable flight. I had booked Radisson Blu Hotel in ZRH through Qantas - Zurich Airport Hotel. Book the Radisson Blu Hotel, Zurich Airport

This is a brand new hotel and the room was excellent. A$240 or so for the night - no breakfast included. Room was really good - full king sized bed / great shower - everything about this room was PERFECT. Now for the Radisson experience:
1. ZERO porters to assist with luggage at check in - oh so Radisson
2. Grossly overpriced breakfast at 28/hd - oh so Radisson
3. Totally insufficient staff at check out resulting in lines 20 deep - oh so Radisson
4. ZERO porters to assist with luggage to check out - oh so Radisson
But apart from that oh so typical Radisson service this hotel is EXCELLENT - very short walk to check in for flights.

Now to ZRH Airport in general - check in simple and straight forward - but the lounges - my god they are just so very ordinary. R on SQ gives you choice Senator Lounge at D Gates or Panorama Lounge at E Gates. Panorama Lounge is so Spartan so just forget that - but the Senator Lounge is just not up to scratch for accommodating F pax on *A carriers - it is just not good enough.

There is separate Swiss First Lounge which *A carrier pax cannot access - I guess Swiss think that is a bit like TPR in SIN - but the Senator Lounge is light years behind SKL F Lounge in SIN. No showers - bloody internet you have to go get code and try to connect - dragons on entry who treat any non Swiss F pax like they are lepers - and was it ever hot in there. I went and asked dragons on front desk could they do anything about temperature and the response I got was 'It is summer you know'! OMG - no s**t Sherlock.

Senator Lounge in FRA is really good - Senator Lounge in ZRH is a disgrace - NEVER again will I attempt to fly out of ZRH - into it is fine - but never out again.

Whilst checking in at ZRH for SQ R flt back to SIN staff advised they had a problem with Suite 3C which I had selected. Everything was working fine except they could not lower centre piece to deploy bed - would I mind sleeping in 3A. No biggie - we can eat / drink in 3C/3D but I will have to move to 3A to sleep. I asked if 2C/2D occupied and answer was yes as we are quite full today - 10 pax in R.

OK so we wander off to suffer the Senator Lounge than time to board - as we are boarding staff grab us again and say Mr and Mrs Elite we have to change your seats - you are now in 2C/2D - huh? OK if that is what you want that's ok. We board and enter Suites - firstly pleasant surprise as it one of the 'Refreshed' 380s - I am chatting to crew and tell them the story that 3C is faulty - No they said it is fixed - so which pax is in 3C now? Nobody Sir - we have 5 pax who have not checked in so now we only have 5 pax total in R. OK can we now use our original selections 3C/3D instead 2C/2D? Of course you can Sir - in fact you can eat and drink and watch movies in 3C/3D and we will set up your beds in 2C/2D and you can retire any time it suits you. Can you guys see why I love SQ?

So here is 3C/3D - Krug meets Dom:

Interesting that Cruiserette who has ZERO interest in the whole flying world other than to get from A to B in comfort immediately noted as soon as she sat down that the 'Refreshed' seats were not as comfortable as the older seats in original 380 fitout - go figure.

And here is the bed all made up in 2C/2D:

The crew on this flight ZRH-SIN were SENSATIONAL - feedback already dispatched.

Flight SIN-MEL was pleasant surprise at it was on 77WN - I have previously done an overnighter on 77WN but this was first day flight - 8 seats and 8 pax - every seat taken - it too was a fabulous flight.

Here's a question for you Cruiser... If I'm trying to get Suites out of Europe, what's your pick? LHR, ZRH, FRA...

CE great pics with you and Mrs CE!

Am in R out of CDG on Sunday to SIN then F ( hopefully a 77WN) to SYD.

Trip coming to end end!

Cruiser I think that seat 3C was actually broken. You never had it made up into bed? Your fit would have been turned around for our flight to London SQ308. At boarding we were told it was broken & they had been trying but could not fix it but with a bit of luck we ended up in 2C&D. The pax in 2C (2D. empty) happily changed & had 3D for the bed.
Wow our first time in suites what a sensational experience, I'm hooked I think I can manage this at least once every 2 years. Now if only I could change my million+ QF points to Krisflyer.
Sadly the TPR food experience the evening before (5th) was disappointing. No lobster at 1600 & when we came back from shopping at 1800 it was available but tasteless & rubbery. Breakfast on the 6th was good though. And the Krug - what can you say.

Unfortunately the consistency of the food in TPR is not so good.

Dr Bob at check in we were told that indeed 3C was faulty and they could not deploy the bed but they had engineers working on it at that time - fine for sitting but not sleeping. By the time we boarded they had indeed solved the problem so we reassumed our selected seats 3C/3D and they made up our beds in 2C/2D.

As for the Lobster being tasteless and inedible isn't that always case with lobster? Most overrated food of all time. IMHO of course

Just a quick question, if I don't online check in - would my pre-allocated seats be safe? :) I have the middle pairs.

They should be but why would you not online check in? And just a very minor correction but your seats are 'Pre Selected' and not 'Pre Allocated'.

SQ will send you both an email and an SMS 48hrs prior to dep with a 1 letter / 7 number code which you simply type in and reply - like 5 seconds and your checked in.

Since that QF fiasco that had a gazillion responses here on AFF I ALWAYS online check in now.

Yes we have never been moved.

Thanks, yeah had a few last minute errands this morning so didn't have time. Might get around to online check in now :)

I normally online check if I'm in in economy though, hopefully to get a nicer seat. Yes, nicer and Y doesn't really go together though hehehe

In the Sydney lounge right now and I'm impressed :) intimate and private it is :) much more tranquil than QFs F zoo on the opposite end :) :)

Just completed two flights and I give them two big thumbs up to Singapore Airlines - very polished crew and flawless service. I could not fault anything.

As I asked a few weeks ago what the crew might do if they work out I am flying on my birthday, well I given a lovely card signed by the flight and cabin crew :)

Nice little touch.

Thanks for the thoughts to all those who have flown with kids. As first time parents, just trying to get as much information as we can to prepare ourselves (although I'm sure you'll never really know until you do it!). Seems like a lot of common sense; if you're considerate of others on board and plan ahead accordingly, doesn't seem like there's a reason to not fly in premium cabins if fortunate enough to be able to.

Duffa - that would have been a very nice surprise for your son! :)

What age do in premium cabins do you have to start paying for their own seats? My wife and I have flown Business in A380 and I swear I could've fit a thin family of 4 on those 2 seats haha.
