SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

J
I'm flying out early next week in J. Any J seat is better than a Y seat but I am looking for recommendations/your seat preferences in J and reason. I'm flying PER-SIN and SIN-MXP both legs on A350.900's.
Keeping everything crossed that one of my return waitlists in J will clear otherwise it will be a Y from MXP back :(.
Thanks for your suggestions.

Just an update on seats. Checked in, 47.5 hours before departure, and PER-SIN is regional configuration. I had seat 21K and could have swapped it for 21A at check in. SIN-MXP is normal configuration and have 20K. There was no other empty seat showing so am stuck with that.
Still happy that it is in J and not Y

Well just booked my daughter home for Christmas & return to London in January. Only $300 odd in T&Cs plus the points - well they were going to expire anyway. She can get herself to Paris for a day time flight to Sing at 10.40 in economy but then she secretes herself into TPR (have told her to ask for Rare with breakfast). Shower and nap before her F flight to Mel. 17th & 18th December just fell into place. Return in mid January was much easier with F to Sin and 4 hrs later J to London. So she get breakfast in TPR twice, lucky girl. After these two trips she will be the most traveled in F in the family and on guess who's points. Gotta love 'em. Does anyone think it's worth while for HER to ring & try to get the trips joined?

If you mean joining here and back no.

But if you mean say CDG- SIN and then SIN-OZ joined (and vice versa on the return flights) if they are not already then most certainly as her checked-in bags will then go through seamlessly and she will only have to then also check-in once each way. In addition if there is any flight hiccups SQ will look after her.

Yes I was kinda thinking she should do that for that exact reason although I thought she could check baggage through. But she can spend the time on hold.
Kangol they were all advantage - around 500K - so not good value but it gets the job done and I still have a lot more to burn by next April, I think.

Linking of this type of consecutive travel isn’t really necessary… it can be done at checkin by showing the next flight itinerary. Bags will be through tagged and boarding passes issued.

Spoke too soon!!!!
My luggage didn't make it to MXP with me but was left in SIN.
Should arrive with tomorrows flight (1 day late) and I was promised it would be couriered to me.
To their credit they did give me compensation (cash) to buy any necessities for 1 day.

Thanks, was going to say - Saver F currently is basically unavailable on every route!

looks like they have stopped serving any meals on SQ246 (BNE - SIN) at all in ecconomy. when checking the menu, all it gives is snacks. for an 8 hour flight this is pathetic
Which date is that for? When I looked up the menu for tonight's flight, it still shows Supper + Snacks.

I'm flying out on Sep 2. wonder if there is some glitch in there system - it definitly had no meals listed this morning. I'm still not seeing a menu for BNE - SIN in my booking but when i check the next segment (SIN - LHR) i see a full menu

The BNE-SIN hasn’t been loaded yet. It says ‘supper’, which is consistent with flights if you enter them into the SQ menu page for a flight leaving within the menu calendar (10 or 14 days?)

Some of the flagship routes like the SIN-LON has a sample of the menu. I guess this is to help people who might be considering ordering a special meal? Dunno why there’s inconsistency between routes.

Writing from SQ22 over the Northwest Territories of Canada. Even in J this flight is LONG… and not helped by SQs meal timing choices.

But still, it’s one to tick off my list and burnt through the majority of the points I dumped into SQ when VA was heading for administration.

PS; the Northern Lights are spectacular this far north tonight.

I did this flight in late May and I did not enjoy it at all. Consequently, I have now determined that any really long sectors should be broken up with at least a very long transit or a stopover. I only took SQ22 because I had to change JL F to HND for a few days.

thats why i didn't do QF9 to LHR - PER to LHR. stopping over in SIN at least allows you to stretch, eat and even use a normal toilet

Assuming you took out travel insurance, double up and spend up to the maximum allowed for 24 hrs with the travel insurance allowance. Just remember to keep receipts and proof that SQ stuffed you.
