SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Is there a hard and fast rule for check in at Syd being 3 hours before? Or is it possible for SQ232 to check in before 8am given SQ212 departs earler?

I was wondering the same thing - I have a reward flight booked MEL - SIN and a VA revenue flight LST-MEL with 4 hours between arrival and SQ208 check in

Can't give Australian examples as from BNE always first flight out.
But 3 times at LHR have arrived 6 - 8 hours before our LHR -SIN flight and have always been able to check in when the desks are open for previous flights.

I successfully checked in at Melbourne about 3 and a half hours before my flight (an earlier flight was still open for check in.) I was hand luggage only, don’t know if that changed anything?

If you’re flying out of Oz in F/R then wud encourage you to try the Mat Moran pasta dish. Xlent flavour, not too stodgy, and absol magic when combined with the Heathcote Shiraz on the wine list. Best thing we had on 2 flts to LHR yday, but then who’s interested in food when you get on the second leg from Sin and its some time after 3AM back where you started..

Hv nothing kind to say about the latest champagne, a Geoffroy. Unless you’re big on wood, as this drop spends some years in old white burgundy barrels. Champagne shud be crisp, astringent, effervescent but that’s just an opinion ofc.

I would book each sector as you go. There’s only 6 seats on each flight after all.

I had no trouble calling and adding a sector to an R class booking. They recalculate but don’t require a redeposit, just the extra and the change fee payment.
When I call to make changes (adding the second sector, or changing from SIN-FRA to SIN-LHR, for example), the agents are saying they cannot see the inventory, indicating that the inventory for a new booking is different from changing a booking, which is what I'm trying to do. Am I not using the right magic words to allow them to make the changes needed?

Thanks for the advice. I was looking at BTC for an upcoming flight and the same old boring options came up. Usually I chose either lobster or steak Ex AU (the former when departing SYD the latter when departing MEL). Never considered the onboard menu pasta as I’m not usually big fan of pasta served in the air but will try it this time.

It can happen and indeed happened to me many times to deal with agents, mostly inexperienced ones, who couldn’t see the same availability as I could on the KF website when trying to change a booking or add flight to an existing itinerary. Best option is to escalate and speak to supervisor who will hopefully be able to work it out but it’s a hit and miss as even some supervisors can’t see the same availability. Second best option is HUACA few times until reaching one of the better SIN based agents.

The above is my experience on adding/changing SQ flights. When trying to add/change *A flights there is a separate system KF agents need to use in order to see similar availability as we do on the website. Most new agents or the ones not based in SIN don’t know about it and will just say they can’t see any seats. In this case supervisors will usually be able to help and book those *A sectors with no issues.

It could be married segment logic at play. Although I’ve not experienced that issue with SQ rewards.

Can you see the full award if you originate it in Australia?

I agree with others … HUACA.

No Krug? No Comtes?

When you have a not so great cabin manager the rest flows. An unimpressive flight back from Rome to Singapore in economy last week, a few signs early on that it wasn't going to be that great (perfunctory Solitaire greeting.. usually when they fawn over you, and you get told flying time, and have 3 levels of FA greet you, it's going to be a great flight, and when they don't ... well you know you've got a slack cabin manager, not that I care so much for the greeting, but it's the correlation with the rest of the fliht).. A bit of attitude from some of the crew (one younger, inexperienced staff member was great, but got scalded, in typical Singapore style. for going above and beyond on one occassion) and the meal pattern was just bizarre (finished dinner service about 2 hrs into the 12 hr flight and started breakfast service 5 hrs later, leaving 4-5 hrs after breakfast which would have been better served closer to the 6am arrival. Perhaps they were trying to get service done before reaching the notorious Bay of Bengal.)

There's a temporary promotion where they're adding a third (grower) champange in F/R.
CH BDM would be great!

Looking forward to try Geoffroy and hoping it will be better than Vilmart which was not good at all IMO.

So I’m onboard 208, woke up from a nap and asked for glass of Krug. FA brings a bottle almost full, starts pouring but immediately apologise it’s flat and opens another one. When I asked why he doesn’t use stopper he said SQ don’t provide despite many requests over the years and some FAs actually bring them from home. For a moment I thought he was joking but he wasn’t.

The only reason I can think of is maybe to avoid situations where crew takes home opened bottles but it makes no sense as they can bring their own stoppers. Such an unnecessary waste!

Had the same on Sun night. Asked the FA if it was altitude that flattened the fizz but he said, no, likely to hv been an old bottle.. always thought they had to surrender opened bottles to customs on arrival?
