SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Can any caviar aficionados also advise on how the pictured condiments served with the caviar should be used? I’m never quite sure. Though last time I was served it onboard, it was still frozen solid.
I think it is very much personal preference. For me it is sour cream and chives.

looking for some suggestions on how best to handle this please..

booked my dad a J reward early this year with miles that would have now expired due to the covid extensions.
Current Departure in Nov 2023, return in March 2024.

He isn't well enough to go, so wants to now go Oct/Nov 2024 and return Feb/March 2025.

How to best tackle this change?

Previous posts on these pages have been varied on this matter. Whether you like the 3 year expiry - and many do not - it is the current SQ policy and the COVID extensions have been quite generous. If everyone could extend every ticket validity by 12 months at a time after making a reward booking with expiring miles, you could theoretically extend indefinitely.

I suggest you ring and plead your case with SQ due to your father's ill health but be prepared to HUCA and be disappointed. You might be lucky, especially if you have KF Gold, PPS or Solitaire status. I believe some members have been able to extend ticket validity but it is rare, especially for another 12 months.

I hope your father improves soon.

You’ll get caviar on any SQ F flight Ex Mel.

I had the pasta from inflight menu few weeks ago and it was very good (posted photos on this thread).
my understanding is that if you do the overnight flight, you dont get caviar,
but i read an article that theyre introducing caviar service for ALL flights,

i went/am going through this now
ive heard mixed responses every where,

I contacted SIA multiple times, and got 3 different answers, I even got one agent to send to me in writing that if I you find the flight your father wants you can change it across with a booking fee (if applicable) and paying the difference if any

I posted that experience on here, and some people said that may not work,

I have some miles expiring in 2 days and most likely will go down the path of booking for 12 months in advance and then changing the ticket again, as i ve already booked other flights with previously expiring miles

If you want to know what is served on a flight, including whether it has caviar as part of a dish or a full caviar service, you can look at the full inflight menu on the website up to 7 days in advance (and menu doesn’t change that often so for caviar the current menus might be a good guide).

Earlier this year I had the same issue and needed to postpone a trip to Europe after needing to undergo surgery.

As the miles used to make the booking would have already expired, I couldn't cancel the booking as the miles would have been lost.

I completed SQ's Assistance Request Form https://www.singaporeair.com/request.form and attached a letter from my Cardiologist. Their reply was somewhat difficult to understand (written in Chinglish) but basically they extended the validity of the ticket by 12 months.

I then needed to find 2 x J saver seats in June 24. Of course, availability was almost non-existant. So I checked every morning at 10AM to see if anything was available without success. I would then ring and explain the situation and ask if they could see anything. After a few "nothing availables", I got through to a chap who put me on hold for a few minutes and then came back with two seats on the flight and date that was my first preference, even though nothing was showing online.

If the letter from your father's doctor is good enough you should be able to change the outbound flights to 2024. However, I don't know how you will go with the return flights as seats for Feb/Mar 2025 will not be released until next year.

I recommend completing the form and see what they offer.

PS: SQ didn't charge me a change fee, nor did they require extra miles even though the price had increased since I made my bookiing.

Could travel insurance not cover this?

I gather that Singapore still won’t allow transits on seperate tickets which is fine as I have a 4hr stop over which is plenty of time to collect baggage, clear immigration etc but has anyone had any recent experience with SQ interlining to EK on seperate tickets at SIN or whether it’s going to be a hard NO?
I‘ve currently got booked
SQ J MEL-SIN with Aeroplan points and then 4hrs before SQ J SIN-DXB with VA points. I’m looking at a EK flight DXB-KWI that departs about 2hrs after my arrival time that I’m keen to catch so was hoping SQ could check my bags through to KWI at SIN. If not I’ll just have to catch the later KU flight or see if the Marhaha assist at DXB can do it

I think policies still allow through checking luggage to other legacy carriers on separate tickets, but the challenge sometimes whether the check-in agent has the competency to do it - especially if it is on a third ticket.

You could ask at MEL, but if they are unable to through check all the way to EK, I'd be inclined to get them just to tag it to SIN, and recheck bags there as you have four hours and SIN staff almost certainly would be able to do it (plus only a second ticket).

I don’t know if it was due to Covid or not but last time I went through SIN I was told its government rules that no through checking of luggage is allowed through SIN on any carrier even SQ to SQ if on different PNR’s which is why I was just going to collect luggage in SIN and re-check bags (hopefully to DXB)

Yes, probably a Covid related restriction. That's all gone now, AFAIK.

hey folks, can I grab some opinions please, ive got about 350,000 kris miles expiring in 2 days, and I dont really have any plans to use them,

im trying to look for flights using saver, in F, but I cant seem to find any availability anywhere,
i assume looking 1 year in advance would be the best way, cant waitlist as theyre expiring

can anyone give me pointers, looking at Europe or USA or Africa, please

also is there a reason the top bar says nothing avaialbe from 21 sep to 27 sep, but yet just below it on the 24th there is 2 x Advantage available?

SYD-LHR is your best bet for F saver all the way 🙂

Used to be, not anymore.
thank you for your feedback

add on: i still cant work out the singapore website, i looked at Melbourne to Japan in F, it says "There are no available First Class / Suites seats for redemption."
I change it to J, and says availble, on virtually every day which is great

so i try Melbourne to Singapore in F, and the dates bar is blank, and yet the single date I chose has a saver and advantage avaiable, is the website broken?

:)
