SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

And the very first time we went to Singapore was in the early 70s. We flew SQ Y. And we got $S6 for each little Aussie battler we had. Mrsdrron went bananas in the gold shops.

We will be flying on SQ J with my daughter 1 year and 8 months. Is this seat configuration ok or should we change?
We have booked 19a and 20a - 2 adults and 1 child

I know it's very hard for some to understand but long-haul crew on the A350 are great, medium haul are not.

Overworked and inexperienced are words that suit :)

You would be the only person on the planet that utters such views - the ‘inexperienced’ Crew you refer to could be rostered onto 380 or 777 the next day - all of a sudden they become ‘experienced’.

Crew are ‘rostered’ in all directions - no set batch of ‘learners’ of ‘duds’ saved for 350 Med Haul metal - I have never seen any diff in performance or attitude by Crew across all aircraft

Has Book The Cook been dowgraded somewhat? We’re travelling AMS SIN in a couple of week. I know it’s a bit of a cliché bit I like my lobster Thermidorian! Not being offered :-(

Hi all,

I have a few upcoming flights on SQ travelling in Y with my partner and grandma.

I’m a VA WP while my partner and grandma both have no status. Is there any chance the SQ lounge agents would allow an extra guest into the lounge when it’s quiet?

Not the biggest problem in the world but just thought I’d check…

Except some SQi staff openly admit on social media they try not to be rostered to AU destinations if possible.

Re the A350 seats: agree totally...these seats are indeed the only ones really worth having on these a/c (was in 11A/K for all of my most recent trip). Pity about the rest of the cabin; hope I can manage to renew my PPS this year...

Sorry if I’m asking the obvious but why do SQ staff prefer to avoid AU destinations?

No specific reasons given in the posts. I might hazard a guess that may be totally wrong that the longer hauls to Europe and Americas give them more time off between flights, more time off on the flight itself (less pressure on completing service) and perhaps better salary bonuses?

OK I just spent 10 mins with IFM discussing rosters - I have a few things to report:

1. Crew Members have ZERO input into roster positions. Roster is generated by ICORPS which is a very complicated algorithm taking in many factors when setting rosters - Crew Training / Experience / Cabin station reqs / Length of flt- a whole bunch of criteria.

2. Once roster set crew members may ‘swap’ an assignment if they can find willing equal replacement.

3. Overall the only ‘non preferred’ destinations across the board are Jo’burg and ALL Indian ports

4. Preference for long haul v short haul assignments totally dependent on Crew Member - think marital status / study ( yes many Crew members also studying) / o/s family r/ships / many many personal preferences - yes greater financial allowance for extended journeys

5. Australia is one of the more desired destinations because of AU way of life / prices for goods in Australia esp food cheaper than Sing - safety on the streets - food offerings - IFM himself said his preferred dest esp ADL and MEL - rarely had he ever heard Crew not desiring an AU assignment

So make of that what you will - or not 👍

SQ have in excess of 14,000 staff. I would expect there will be a diversity of views, as there are on AFF

All those reviews seem pretty much accurate - I have no idea how this airline ever survives - only advice I would like to offer those with negative SQ views / experiences is vote with your $s and DO NOT FLY SQ - it ain’t complicated 👍

Did you check Qantas and Emirates on same site?

Yes I did, very diverse views from 5* to no stars as per usual and lower general scores. I take them all with a grain of salt like all reviews. (I especially like the one where they claim they made over 1000 calls with their complaint - as if 🙄)

Just goes to show you cant please everyone every time, different people have different expectations and touch-points and online reviewers (unless paid) are more likely to comment when dissatisfied than if they get so so or even good service (even if you are on SQ 😉)

THAT - right there - keyboard cowards who would rather waste time and effort trying to impress others on the famous internet rather than contacting supplier directly - but in the era in which we live that is life 👍
