SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I realise this question may be met with some jovial derision, but to serfty (and anyone else who has had success sleeping in the SKL T3 sleeping loungers); did you set yourself an alarm or something to ensure you did not oversleep?
I've got an overnight layover coming up at SIN and am actually fairly confident I can get some zzzs in those seat/beds - so much so I would be a little concerned about waking in time for my flight. But of course I am not going to set a loud alarm on the 'nightstand'. So what do people do; use a vibrating watch or phone tucked against their body somewhere? (Please hold the snickering...)
I am assuming you cannot ask to be woken by an attendant.
No snickering; I used silent with vibration (although I noticed one person did use a ringing tone alarm :mad: ... and used the "snooze' :mad: :mad:).

Also, as you enter on the left side door immediately there is a cupboard up and to the left with a small label (hard to read in the gloom) "Pillows / Blankets". (There are two doors, one on each side and silently opened with the wave of your hand across sensors.) I generally grab four pillows and two blankets, attempting with three pillows and a blanket to eliminate the worst of the angles. Also, the headrest is removeable.

I think also to be fair if people choose to sleep in a public place, they need to take the good and the bad and therefore I don't think an alarm would be unreasonable. Better than missing your flight and then having to pay for a new one.

The last couple lf times we’ve been in the SKL it’s been early’ish… around 6am. There were four or five people sleeping on the couches. Problem is, the lounge is packed to capacity, they’re taking up valuable space. While they may only be occupying the couch, you can’t really set up in the seats opposite them. So it’s effectively seating for 10-12 seats out of use.

There should perhaps be a 5am wake up call for everyone (or whatever time the lounge starts to fill up).
 
Were they the 6hour rates?

After checking, check-in would be (11/4)1am and checkout at 7am, no availability

Don’t forget you can get day rates at CP which I did 2 weeks ago - I thought I had booked room in Jewel wing but ended up in main wing

But cannot be booked online you will need to email them
I'll give the plaza a shot. I am looking for around $200.. if its 300-400 then I'd give it a miss

Thanks for the replies/suggestions, all. I would not feel comfortable setting an audible alarm in a designated quiet area so I'll just go with setting my phone to vibrate and positioning it somewhere I'll notice.

If there were dedicated ‘loungers’ in SKL I haven’t seen them… the people I was talking about had just taken couches to go to sleep on :( Which was fine… the lounge had provided blankets and pillows for that purpose, but it wasn’t within any quiet zone… just the regular lounge!

If there is a sleeping zone, can understand the reluctance to set an audible alarm.

Go back the last few days of posts in this thread. There is a dedicated quiet room at the far south (east) end of the Business class lounge with reclined chairs with provided pillows, blankets and eye masks. See the post linked here:

Ah, ok. Well there’s definitely ‘overspill’ from that dedicated area into the main lounge :(

Was having a general chat to crew on my last flight and happened to ask about the difference in menus that I saw vs what was in yours is there maybe a menu change coming up? Occasionally it gets changed out was one thought. And this is around the time when they refresh menus.
 
Interesting that there is s ‘best’ prize for revenue and size of fleet. Not really metrics that interest the traveller.

Fleet size could be important to pax living in USA or Europe who want to stick to one airline that will take them anywhere they need.
 
01/04/24 | SQ221 | SIN to SYD

Somehow managed to find a J Reward seat through VA over the Easter long weekend and couldn't say no to that! This was my first ever experience of Singapore Airlines Business Class.

After some shopping at Jewel I made my way to the T3 SilverKris lounge. Not sure if my expectations were too high but to be honest I found it underwhelming. Food was mediocre, the two young guys behind the bar seemed to be on their first shift and were basically training one another whilst making a mess, all the drinks in the fridge were room temperature and lots of staff were coughing and sniffling behind their masks... hopefully not the experience others have!

Left the lounge early, or so I thought. When I reached the gate boarding had already commenced. Soon had a glass of Charles Heidsieck Brut Reserve in hand but it was warm, a bit of a tragedy for such a nice champagne. Thankfully the experience improved from here!

My "Book The Cook" Lobster Thermidor (what else does one order on their first ever SQ J flight? ;)) was confirmed on the ground as was my initial drink choice of a Singapore Sling. The sling was fine but I much preferred the original I had at the Raffles Long Bar the day before, although admittedly this one doesn't come with Raffles' eye-watering AUD $53 price tag.

The Satay was delicious.

The appetiser was marinated smoked salmon with capers, doesn't look particularly impressive but it tasted great.

Got some garlic bread and cheese bread from the bread basket, I would say the cheese bread was the best.

And then the famous thermidor served with a glass of the 2019 Bodegas Lleiroso Crianza, which I was told was the first day they were serving this wine. The lobster was excellent and I really liked the wine as well.

After the mains the dessert trolley was brought around and I selected the fruit tart. "How about some cheese and fresh fruits as well?" Well since you offered... 😄 both were excellent.

We were asked if we wanted to be woken up for the breakfast service at about 5.15am Sydney time, but I didn't sleep well and was up anyway. I chose the Balinese-style Bakmi Goreng dengan Satay Lilit and a vanilla bourbon TWG tea. The noodles were ok but nothing special and I was still full from dinner so just kind of pecked at it. The tea however was a winner.

Service from the crew was exceptional with special mention to Yuki who looked after my section of the cabin. Slippers, socks and eyemasks were at our seats as we boarded, with amenity kits from Penhaligons available on request. Bathrooms were kept clean throughout the flight. One peculiarity was a flight attendant who passed through the cabin and closed everyone's windows. I have no idea why they decided to do this, it's a red-eye flight and it was dark the whole way through, even when landing in Sydney!

All in all still a great flight and I would be keen to get back in J on SQ again, however I think I might retire from these short red-eye flights. I get nowhere near enough sleep on them and feel terrible the next day!
