SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I had Lobster few weeks ago from Singapore to Perth, wasn't that impressed. But I was properly spoilt on the way from Taipei to Singapore to Perth. By the time I got on board to Perth, I already eaten and drunk too much. Anyway in the last 4 trips with Singapore Airlines in Business, I really enjoyed the carrot cake for dinner (Singapore to Busan).
Yes i had lobster pre ordered a couple of years ago and thought it not worth the effort.

Two weeks ago SIN to MXP ordered for the breakfast meal service the BTC Nasi Lemak very tasty, a nearby passenger had ordered the Lobster, which didn’t look great. The BTC steak dinner first meal service ex SIN , very good as well.

Yes, I went for the steak for next meal and was quite good .

Just looking at Book the Cook out of BNE on SQ236 and the choices seem rather limited. Anyone tried the Grilled Beef in Green Peppercorn Sauce?

Then for SQ336 to CDG I'm thinking of the Lobster but I know many on here seem to prefer the chicken rice, although I see both are also listed for breakfast. Any other suggestions?
I did this trip last week and was not exactly overwhelmed with the offerings.

I have a seafood allergy so that knocked quite a few options out.

I decided that I just wanted something light as I had already probably eaten on the CNS-BNE VA flight and in the SQ lounge and would be wanting some sleep. I opted for the beef burger.

A bit meh but that's what I was expecting.

Just note that nothing was offered before landing. No food. No coffee. No water. Also no satay sticks BNE-SIN and beyond from SIN.

Also note the flight board at BNE says check in is from three hours before departure. They actually open up earlier than that.

I see the satay sticks are available on "Book the Cook" but I would have thought that this was if you wanted them as a main meal. I was also thinking that they would be available to all as an appertiser/entree.
Satay is served on select flights depending on the departure time, flight length, and meal being offered. You can view the menu for all flights, in all classes, on the SQ menu page: Singapore Airlines - In-flight Menu

(nite the menu is for 7 days in advance, but it will still indicate whether satay is served)

Interestingly no satay on the 18 hour flights out of NY so it does seem to be random which flights get them

I doubt it would be of any practical difference to reinstate first redemptions on SQ. VA redemptions on SQ open 25 days after SQ releases them so any F awards have virtually all gone. A lot different to pre covid.

I’ve got a saver award booking that I’m going to end up cancelling by as I managed to work a OWA.

Does SQ consider destination changes as a “change”, or will I have to cancel and rebook once the points are deposited? Need to change destination from CMN to CAI (will be the same SQ sectors connecting onto a different TK flight - dates are different).

I have a booking this Thursday in Award Business (I):

SQ208 - MEL 18:25 - SIN 00:15+1, SQ898 SIN 19:00 - HKG 22:45.

MEL has be 0'd out for a week.

A call came in from Singapore Airlines offering a day later:

SQ238 - MEL 09:05 - SIN 15:15 in "First", connecting to the same HKG flight.

I don't really like morning flights like that, but the "First" swung the deal. (I did check, it was showing F2 before and F1 after)

Now I have a new confirmation,, but it still shows Business (I), albeit in 01C on a 77W. Not O as I would have expected.

Book the cook was cleared but when I go into it, the Business options are listed (not those for Suites/First out of MEL).

Do I have a First or a Business Booking? Should I be able to access the First lounges?

Lets hope that they give you what they promised, Personally I would ring back and clarify,

Well, the web based OLCI BP shows "First", so that's a plus. The app showed First/Suites when checking in there but won't show a BP ("collect at airport") so will ait until then.

Time to plan ahead - only have three hours. Ever the optimist, I am going to assume I will be afforded First Class arrival rights and can use the Private Room and/or First Lounge at Changi before Business to HKG.

First? Private Room or Both?

(It's not like I'll have other opportunities ... rarely do I book First awards).

Or can you do both and tell which you like best? Im going thru there later next week and would love it hear what you think of them

Haven’t been to the PR since renovation but the First Lounge has no light but is a nice enough space, nice showers, good champagne, some amenities and a glorified hawker stall where they prepare hawker food to order with other hawker food in a buffet.

PR is be better (quieter, better food) but IIRC, CE used to request the champagne from the First Lounge instead of the PR offer.
