SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Now here is a special post for young'uns Tommy, Boomy and infinity - the 3 AFFers who are certain to be walking down the aisle in 2016.

Now whilst you guys are still all lovey dovey with your gorgeous MUCH BETTER halves and R looks so attractive:

Double bed at 35K ft and all - and you will be wantin' to get those precious little bears as momentos of your honeymoons:

Just remember that old dogs like cove and myself are just as happy flying in F as it does have it's advantages:

This will all make sense in good time boys - in good time!

Oh Cruiser... I am speechless :)

Indeed 777-300ER - can anyone tell from the seat map below if it's a 77W or 77WN?

View attachment 60547

Not sure, sorry M@rcoPolo. I didn't think there was a way to tell from the seatmaps, but someone wiser might know the seceret.

However! Get in quick and snap up one of those seats in row 11 – significantly better experience, particularly for sleeping, being a bulkhead. It's as close to an F suite you'll ever get in J.

Already did - 11D & 11F :)

Have been getting ready to make another assault on the SQ First cabin via a redemption, ideally SIN-NRT or SIN-HKG, but anywhere reasonable, really. Researched this thread again and I've just called the Krisflyer customer support line.

My conclusion is that without status, on a popular route, such as the above, there is no point going on a waitlist, as there is little chance it will clear for me. I can't see the point of making a booking 'on the off chance it comes through' because if it doesn't, what then? I find it very difficult to plan the year or 330 days in advance to try to snag a seat as it first becomes available.

Is my pessimistic view valid, would the experts say? (Some would say you'd rather I clear off and not compete at all, but I know you all are quite altruistic in these matters :) )

ps the Krisflyer customer support line is a challenge. Short wait time, but they seem to recruit from the same pool of people that Telstra does!

I haven't searched those particular routes - but there are others where availability is pretty open - nothing near like having to reserve and book 330 days out. PVG/PEK (and of course Australia to SIN) are all fairly open for awards.

RF pick your route and dates - WL if not showing available - msg me with details - we will put the wheels in motion - every chance your WL will clear without assistance - lets get the ball rolling.

FWIW I am lowest KF status - in fact as penegal says I am lower than low - but WL clearing mostly happens without too much of a glitch.

That's generous of you cruiser :) Dates not yet firm - I've gotta check work commitments with my client when they wake up in the new year (I was just experimenting to this point). May I get back to you in January?

Cheers

What's the expiry on Citipoints transferred to SG?
Standard 3 years I am expecting.

I want to get in before the 31st deadline and it goes from 1.5:1 -> 2:1

I'm sure I can find a way to spend them all in 3 years

Cheating on SQ with CX J to PVG in a few weeks. Excited/nervous I might like it.

Coming home via SQ J though. Just in case everything goes wrong and I need to be consoled.

CX... seat better. IFE better. Ok amenity kit. Flight sectors better length to allow a proper sleep (relaxed meal or drink followed by 7 hours uninterrupted sleep).

SQ... better service, better food, better drinks. But sector length is a tad on the short side to allow winding-down time and longish sleep.

So, SQ better during the day. CX at night? Definitely booked that the wrong way around then!

Ah well, at least I got all four flights on the respective long haul config.

Long shot but since no F is offered on either of my CX flights, is there any way into The Pier? I just want a sticky beak at Ilse Crawford's work but not sure how to get in!

Well summed up. There's no amenity kit to speak of with SQ J.

Well it depends... the SQ 'square' business class seat has fairly limited recline and it depends how upright you like being (unless you make up a day bed). I dunno how the new SQ business class stack up in that regard. The CX seat has various lounging positions.

The Pier - you'd need oneworld emerald to get in, or perhaps find another AFFer travelling on the day you'll be there to guest you in.

RF

I have zero status but lately all my wait listed J segments seem to be cleared 10 days prior to departure including SYD SIN rtn.

0/3-4 F WL, however

Sadly I declined them all as I had alternative confirmed SQ flights since the WL.

Yes, like you, I'd prefer not to leave it to the lottery wheels but my take is that you should waitlist what you like while having alternative confirmations.

Unlike me, you may actually accept those cleared flights.

mrsmart make sure you are on CX HKG-PVG and not KA - KA dogs of planes.

And totally disregard what Captain Snooze (aka MEL) says about sector length - 7hrs MEL-SIN - jeez how long you want to sleep for? One day you will sleep forever why you need it now? Just don't take 773 o/n flt - regional seats no good for sleeping - Diamond seats on 77W/77WN perfect.

And I would never worry about no amenity kit - real men don't worry about lip balm and eye shadow or whatever there is in those things.

What date you flying? I will be heading to PVG on 1st or 2nd Feb.

Only the KA A320s (and to a lesser extent the A321s) are an issue. The KA 330s are perfectly fine - the same regional business class as CX with plenty of space, good recline, and depart from the main concourse at HKG. The only difference is that some CX flights may operate with international business class.

Some people want to be able to hit the ground running on arrival. The bed on a plane is there for that reason, to arrive refreshed if you want.
