SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Previously the CDV's could be collected on any itinerary that included a transit through SIN - S$40 for long haul / S$20 for short haul (under 5hrs I think). But with the latest promotion T's & C's have changed in that if you have booked 2 separate journeys - and if your return journey was booked prior to your departure from your country of residence than you are ineligible to receive the second CDVs on your return journey.

As Danger has posted you may still receive them dependant of agent on duty but last 2 transits I have been denied. Current promo is scheduled to expire 31/03/2016:

The "current" promo is scheduled to end 31/03/2016 but they've been extending it when it gets closer to the expiry date on and on. So a lot of us are expecting this to continue after that time.

Posts offering vouchers to swap or otherwise have been deleted as they are contrary to AFF T&Cs

Should you have vouchers that you cannot use, please go to the "free to good home" thread. Do not pass 'GO' etc. :)

My next SQ redemption booking is for late January in J on SQ211 SIN-SYD.
Currently showing as a 77W.
There doesn't appear to be any PE bookable.
I also have a separate waitlist for F on the same flight.
I doubt if it will clear, but my question is, when we arrive in SIN a couple of days prior, if I go to the lounge, will they clear the waitlist if there are seats available, and more importantly will I need to have miles in my account to clear it given it is a separate waitlist and not connected to our original booking.

deka lounge staff cannot help with rdpts - all they can do is call KF call Ctr on your behalf and them calling adds no weight to your request.

Did you WL the F prior to booking your J? If insufficient pts in acc I assume your WL will still clear but I have never been in that position - if it does clear KF agent should be able to upgrade your J to F without cancelling conf J and you completing the F booking - the second scenario has probs for you if insufficient pts in your account.

825 is 380 so you should get 5hrs sleep - you will use the CA J lounge - quite good by Chinese standards - I would not eat at all on board - you should get best part 5hrs sleep - on the MEL scale that should see you 'hit the ground dawdling' in SIN.

Cruiser! I swapped to F all the way back from PVG – which means Suites on 825! I'm so excited!!!!!

SQ231 back to SYD

Express arrival slips given out sans the required Immigration Forms

None around us got one

I raised the issue and got a blank look in return. FA went away asking someone and came back with the reply "We don't have it"

No surprise on landing when the Customs guy asked for that form for each of the pax

I used the e-passport so again no firm was required to pass through

A little annoyed at the drop of service standards

They're meant to hand them on boarding in SIN, not on the plane.

Thanks once again CE

I think I will transfer points over just to be on the safe side and call KF once we get to Singapore.

Pointy end Saver rdpt availability really tight over most Feb due to CNY - I need to be in PVG 1st wk Feb - pref Feb 1 or 2 - I had every F and J combo possible WL out of MEL and after several phone calls to KF it was becoming apparent due to comm tix sales next to no chance anything would confirm. Last agent I spoke to (Elly on long leave) has me on hold 5 mins then comes back and states if I can go Feb 3 F Saver available - all over it like a cheap suit - ret out of PVG on Feb 8 - again very very tight.

Moral to the story is if you have flexibility with dates you can usually get set - again as always KF call Ctr always your best friend.

Note: Clearly the F to AMS debacle has quite a few scratching their heads - me included - if I can get to speak to the right people over next few weeks I'll try to find out how SQ could ever let this happen - it has been poorly handled and is just not consistent with experiences I have had with SQ/KF.

It's a too bit short a flight, but I'll manage ;)

Next time CE. I'm sure there'll be one!
Your based in MEL - pay attention - an AFF VIP might need some assistance with some advice on SQ F - I do not hold a mortgage on same so I can feel a MEL get together surfacing - stay tuned.

Fantastic - you will sleep a lot better on that bed.

mrsmart our meeting will have to wait - I am flying to PVG on Feb 3 / ret Feb 8 - another time hopefully my friend.

I am also on SQ Feb 8...but 245 SIN-BNE

I'm looking at a flight from USM-SIN. It's only 2hrs via Silk Air. Not flown with them before. Y redemption is 10625miles cf J redemption at 17000miles. Is it worth it, or should I save my miles for a longer flight??

Confession Time - Forgive me Cruiser and others I have sinned. I went over to the dark side (Emirates) for part of our return trip to Brisbane from Paris. Was on the 380.

I received my Christmas present a day early with my SQ waitlist booking in J for Dubai to Brisbane clearing (now I have 1 way redemption booking in J on MH from Dubai to Brisbane extended to June that I will probably cancel) so I can compare Emirates to SQ with it being fresh in my mind.

Firstly the positives on Emirates - Chauffeur pick up good and IFE good with touch screen. Thats where the positives end.

Check in process at CDG slow and agents not welcoming at all. Lounge experience ok. Champagne was Verve. Boarding process underwhelming. You do not get the warm welcome you do on SQ. Was wearing a jacket and no offer to hang it up. On SQ they always approach me with offer to hang the jacket. Might be a small thing but it all adds up.

Food average and drinks selection not as good as SQ. They had a French Burgundy on the wine list but told none. Gave me a Californian Chardonnay instead. Tried it and did not finish it.

Did not like the seat. After a meal and drinks laid the seat flat (no offer from cabin crew to make up the bed) and tried to sleep. As seat is narrow could not get comfortable like on SQ in the 777-300ER. Have not been on SQ 380 so can not compare with that seat but SQ 777-300ER seat wins hands down. Extra IFE controls on Emirates are a gimmick.

Cabin crew walk past without making eye contact and are not proactive in service. Went down to stand up bar and had some drinks. Cabin crew kept changing behind the bar but were not interested in engaging.

At the end of the flight Cabin Crew did not all gather to wish you well as disembarking like they do on SQ.

If I had the choice of Emirates or SQ on the same route easy choice!

But apparently people like EK because every time they buy a Y ticket they are upgraded to F. 100% up-op guarantee! ;):D
