Just got off my first ever EY J flight and wanted to share some quick observations and comparisons with SQ whose J product I know best (travelling solo so no one to chat with about it!).
Seat – EY's 77W J seat isn't terrible, probably better than I expected, but has nothing on SQ's J seat. I love those Diamond mini-suites.
Food – definitely average. Was missing SQ's dining. Partly because of quality, and partly because of the somewhat impersonal service style.
Service – Worlds apart. In EY J, you definitely feel like a second-class citizen (with F on board). You're treated well, but you still feel like just another passenger in what isn't a very big cabin. On SQ, you feel like the only passenger on the plane in J and I think I've taken it for granted. You're addressed by name from the get-go – the EY FA actually asked for my name. Could he not just check the manifest?
I wasn't checked up on at all, and dessert was completely forgotten about so I actually went into the galley, asked for cheese and had it handed to me on the spot. I carried it back to my seat.
For supposedly comparable products, I know where I'll continue to fly. Even with the lounge spa and chauffeur service, it all comes down to the people and the culture just isn't there for EY.
It has its faults, but I love my SQ.
