SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

I have pushed the button and booked SQ242 (2F) SYD to SIN followed by 336 (3F) to CDG. A nice long layover in SIN to prepare for the next leg.

Good combo - 2 pr jarmies / 2 teddy bears / SIN F check-in / arr and dep access to TPR / 2 TPR invites (gold ink in SIN) - what more could a person ask for?

Thank you for all the advice offered.

How far out did you need to book this? I have gone back through history but didn't find a date mentioned.

With that sort of celebratory response Cruiser, as I read down I was expecting balloons and fireworks. ;)

I have 4 x A380 (so it shows currently) flights SQ 232 / 306 / 345 / 221.

I am really torn between the possibility of a double bed in 3C, and the side in 3F.

My gut is saying that there will be more redemptions and I won't actually get the double in which case I will wish I was over in 3F.

I've read cruiser and MEL's comments to date .... what would Donald do?

The double bed is OK, but it's not really a true double. There's a hard bit in the middle where the suites join, and there's also a separator by your head which sticks out a fair way. You're pretty much still either on one side or the other.

Ummm - Lufthansa? :p
Ummm ........ thread title being SQ Tips, Trips and Tales would indicate discussion here was SQ related - but I might be wrong. ;)

But since you introduced LH MEL also pls correct me if I am wrong but the last TR posted on AFF re LH gave glowing reports of lounge / boarding etc but was less than glowing re onboard product did it not?

Clearly we have different views on many matters but I always select 3C as if nobody else in 3D you can get a double bed. Yes there is a hard strip about 2cm high up middle - but crew will place an extra doona over this which means you won't sleep diagonally but very simple to roll from side to side.

Unless you are that Giant dude at the top of the bean stalk length of bed is never a prob. As I said above - we are all different so go with your own decisions.

My experience 2015 was disappointed with LH product. Not at all happy with ability to contact LH, nor to reach a satisfactory conclusion. Completely different dealing with SQ.
Apologies for OT.

Lufthansa First class? I know some people prefer closed suites rather than the open design of LH. But I'm not sure the on board food, service or amenities can be faulted. The food offering on LH F is a step up (or three) from SQ.

CE I used 3C and Mrscove used 3D for dinner and movies. We then went back to our A seats for sleeping.
We actually had an infant in 2C and 2D and the child was very quiet.

cove, so you and Mrscove do your sleeping in the window seats? And, go to the centre seats if available so that you are next to each other for dining and movies? I haven't been in the cabin, so trying to visualise it.

Alright. I've read about the last 20 pages of this thread and tried to do a bunch of reading online.

I'm after opinions on the best suites seat on the 388 for my upcoming first ever SQ F (or R as it were) experience.

I've been allocated 2A by default which seems to be a popular choice, I caught a passing comment from Lucky's blog suggesting he prefers row 3 for a bit more privacy.

I would appreciate any insight. Tempted to go 1A just for the boarding pass but I'm not that vain (or am I?) :)

I saw a comment in my other thread recommending against Booking the Cook -- I (like most) enjoy Lobster so was thinking the thermidor, but if others' experience is good/better from the menu on board, or if there are better choices, I'm all ears? (Or if there are good reviews to be pointed at, this is what my life will be the next few days instead of thinking about packing properly!)

Yes GMOH we used 2A and 3A for sleeping and 3C and 3D for dining and movies.
4A and 4F can get some galley noise but still quite ok.
Never tried 1A or 1F and 2C and 2D are reserved for families with an infant.
I go 3A or 3F as my best seat choice for a quiet bedroom.

2A is not necessarily a popular choice for the A380 (777 absolutely)

3A or 3K are the preferred seats for solo travellers - they are the only suites with three windows. 2A is close to stowage space, and 1AK can be looked in by anyone using the stairs (which isn't common).

Book the cook - lobster is still cooked at least 24 hours in advance, chilled, and reheated. It's not same day sea-to-plane. You get much better seafood on the ground.

First class menus are usually a chance to try some new/interesting dishes - can be a missed opportunity to order something that will be better/fresher here in Oz.

Thanks for the insight. After doing more reading and reviews I tend to agree- am now in 3A and will enjoy the surprise of what's on board on the day.

Now... does anyone need guesting into the SYD SKL F section (assuming it's worth it/a thing?) on Thursday morning? :D

Ok you are ready. Krug, icy vodka with the caviar and then go the French red with your main meal choice.

I've read a few reviews that suggest the RWT makes an appearance on board. I had some on QF93 F last year and have a taste for it *drools*

However I'm not above making sure I've found the best option - wine tasting perhaps? Further research is clearly required!

I'm flying in Jan 2017 HKG-SIN-SYD on suites - I feel a bit bummed that I'm missing out because I don't get to experience the Changi SIN F check-in! But I'm sure the Krug will make it all better ;)
If you've got spare days, why not add a stopover? Experience TPR for breakfast and/or dinner
