SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

If you mean that you can't hit the next button.

It doesn't work in Chrome, Firefox, Edge or the latest version of IE on Win 10. However older versions of IE seem to work.

can't get it to work on chrome, safari, or IE11. back to the dark ages of the telephone apparently.

Went to book a one J savere for my daughters boy friend who is Dutch from Amsterdam to Brisbane. Was able to enter his full name as a redemption nominee (being Dutch he has a long name!).

Plenty of options for the preferred date of 22 February 2016 and when I when I went to complete the booking said you could only have 25 characters for the name. Phoned up to do the booking and was still able to get 25% on line discount as I could not complete it on line.

At 68,000 points Amsterdam is still a sweet spot for a J saver. Have also booked my a son a 1 way J saver in December 2016 from Amsterdam which was still only 68,000 points. Not sure if it will remain at 68,000 points once the 350 starts.

It's been 5 years or so since I was able to book a J saver for 68,000 points. Maybe I should have been looking at one way awards instead of returns. Hmmmmmm.

By the sound of it you were you able to book short notice too?

25%! Is that a typo, surely you mean 15%?

Yes it was a typo. Should have typed 15%. Had been looking at the redemption for some weeks but could not book until my daughters boy friend had finalized his dates. When we started looking at dates there was a fair bit of choice. Also looked at Paris as they live near the Belgian border and there was availability there as well though not on all dates.

Singapore dont differentiate their award pricing based on aircraft type, so I presume Amsterdam will remain at 68,000 points. You can also redeem flights to Rome for the same amount

My understanding was that the difference on award pricing was originally based on aircraft type. Our first redemption on SQ was in 2012 and we flew into Amsterdam and out of Copenhagen. Both were 68,000 points for a J Saver and were a 777-200ER with 2/2/2 seating. Rome was also 68,000 points with the same plane. Sometime after 2012 Amsterdam was changed to 777-300ER and the 777-200ER were refitted to 1/2/1 seating but Amsterdam/Copenhagen/Rome remained at 68,000 points for a J Saver.

No doubt others who have more knowledge than me can advise if my understanding is incorrect.

If my recollection is correct it is a pity that the same does not apply to Brisbane with a 330 with 2/2/2 seating.

Zone 11 (Europe 1) is AMS, ATH, CPH and FCO.

Zone 9 (East coast AU) to Zone 11 is 80,000 miles in J. Or 68,000 after taking off 15%.

If you don't mind flying PJ (Pretend Business) the rest of the way.
Slightly further than where?

Sorry, I should have said further from continental Europe. It does require a coughpy connection, but TK has a decent (i.e. proper) short-haul J product you can book in to another EU port.

If you have to make a connection intra-Europe anyway, you may as well save some miles in the process.

72,500 pts (without 15%) one way. Is it worth the mucking around if you don't need to be there?
Would you then book a redemption on TK?

I did book a well priced open jaw J ticket at short notice in 2012 that went via SIN-IST-TBL-IST-AMS-SIN-SYD, but I would not think those deals come along very often (via a TA).

As I said, If you're making a connection intra-Europe anyway (to a port not served by SQ), then IST makes a lot of sense – saving some miles.

Plus, it's a fun city to spend time in so makes a good stopover too.

But of course if you're headed for AMS, CPH, LHR etc., the obviously it would make sense to pay the extra miles.

It's just a sweet spot if you're short on SQ miles and want to get to Europe in J for the lowest amount possible.

IST is one of my favourite places on Earth, but recently it seems a history there will delay your progress with TSA in the States. I had already had issues with TWA (Travelling While Arabic).

And coughtail List:

I jokingly said to one crew member my favourite coughtail was not on the list - his response was 'I will make anything for you as long as we have ingredients - I love making new ones!'

What did you get specially made, Cruiser Elite?
Sorry if I was unclear - I was looking at coughtail list and I jokingly mentioned to crew member that my favourite coughtail was not on the list - he said he would make anything for me - but between the Krug:

And 2007 Chateau Pichon Longueville Grand Cru:

I was not going to waste time and stomach space on a coughtail.
