SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Has anyone flown PE on this route? How does that compare to Y? I am not sure if PE is worth spending more points compare to Y given I won't be getting lounge access as PE.
Is this a daytime flight or overnight? I've flown SQ PE daytime SYD-SIN on A380 and found it comfortable with excellent service. Whether it's worthwhile value over Economy will depend on your value of points and your comfort threshold.

Well, ive got a flight melb to lhr, leaving 9am ish next week

Travelling F, layover singapore for 8 hours.
Kind of know what to expect, read enough reviews.
I m pretty sure its a 777 from melb to sing and a380 old suites from sing to lhr.
Ill get private room lounge access, on the plane, ill use book the cook, and have my caviar (hopefully i can get 2nds, 3rds, 4ths)
Was hoping i get new suites from sing to lhr but oh well
Not interested in leaving airport at changi,
Aim to drink krug and the 2006 Château Pichon Longueville
Any other tips ladies and gents?

No old suites these days - meal time is spent looking at yr neighbour across the aisle..

If you dont want to leave Changi airport you can still catch airside train for a look at Jewel from above, or go thru Immigr and then immediately head upstairs and along the walkway into Jewel land-side. Either way you cant realistically spend 8 hrs sitting inside TPR, so doing a circumnavigation of the terminals by train and foot is one way to justify yr subsequent further onboard indulgence. Get a massage (airside think that still happens upstairs at T1, not far from QF lounge - landside its T3 ground floor arrivals, turn R after luggage collection) look at one of the butterfly enclosures, hv a swim upstairs T2 etc.

It would have been day flight, or late night, as there is no overnight flight for SYD-SIN due to curfews. I want to check if there is a massive difference between SQ PE and Y.

No such thing as old suites any more .

Go the caviar with icy vodka plus the Krug and the French red not necessarily in that order @travelnutjohn.
Our turn is next Tuesday after a night at Crowne Plaza Changi.
Ahhh i did read about old suites getting reduced, but when i booked my ticket the seat had the old config. And i assumed MEL wouldnt get them
But now when i log in, i can see the 6 F seats

I am ecstatic:)

And my last trip in dubai lounge i was there for 13 hours with a 2 hour nap which made it quite ok, but i agree 8 hours TPR seems id run out of things to do being so small

Edit: ive seen the jewel water fall thing and like it.
I arrive in singapore at 4pm. So i guess i could leave the airport... should i

In late June the Champagne offerings on-board included a 2015 Bollinger which was also very nice, I would recommend trying that as well as the Krug. TPR additionally had the 2012 Taittinger Comtes de Champagne which was also pretty fantastic.

As suggested the vodka is a great accompaniment for the caviar, and several times I've been offered to keep the mother-of-pearl spoon as a souvenir so don't be afraid to ask if that's of interest to you.

I quite enjoy the daytime flights on the 777, especially when flying with someone as it's much easier to chat while dining than in the suites. I also appreciate the 1:2 bathroom to pax ratio which is often even less if the 777 doesn't have a full load in F (as per my last flight).

Walking the airport is a good way to stretch your legs and kill an hour if you've got too much time at Changi - I head out of TPR and turn right, do the short loop to the end of the A gates and back, then the long loop through T1 and T2 down to the end of the F gates. I'm not a shopper when flying solo so no great interest in Jewel but it's worth a visit if you've never been and have a few hours up your sleeve. Just don't forget to do your Singapore electronic arrivals card if you intend on clearing customs.

If you're flying with a partner and want to take advantage of the double suite on the A380 make sure you book 1A/2A or 1F/2F. Row 3 is noticeably smaller than 1 and 2 (not that any of the suites are what you'd call 'small') but if I'm flying solo I won't select rows 1 or 2 unless the corresponding other half of the double suite is already taken, as I've seen plenty of couples ask to swap seats on board if they've ended up in 2A/3A.

Im a bit confused by this, im travelling solo, you say row 3 is the smallest
But to choose row 3? On my flight only 1f and 2f are available, i chose 2f, since 1f and 2f can be merged. I dont think 1f vs 2f matters

Also i just checked, its weird the email i received requesting seat selection says a380 but in manage booking the plane is a 737 which i assume is wrong

That’s a new service that SQ are offering. As the new runway is so far away, they fly you in your own 737 to the A380 when it is ready to take off, giving you more lounge time. 🤣

I can see that you are reading along @JessicaTam.
I can recommend that you try either SQ or Qatar in the front of their planes.
I think you can ask for PH Rare when you are in the SQ TPR. That is a lovely champagne.
I feel sure one of my sons did that.

Could be a miscommunication but in the SQ lounge at PER this morning before SQ224 boarding the lounge announced there will be no WiFi aboard today's flight due to a "system breach"

Sorry, I can see how that’s confusing.

My logic is based on being on the other side of the situation in some of my first flights in the suites.

If I am flying solo I don’t want to book a seat that would prevent a couple from choosing the double suite if it’s still available. Purely a personal choice, having flown with my wife with only 4 pax in the cabin but 1A and 1F having been taken by solo travellers who booked before us so we missed out on the double suite option.

Row 3 also has the bed quite distant from the other beds, while 1 and 2 are obviously separated only by the droppable partition. If you’re in Row 2 and the pax in Row 1 is a rough sleeper you run the risk of being disturbed if they bump against the partition.

If I had only 1F and 2F to select I’d go with 1F as I’m right handed. At the meals table I like to setup my laptop on the small shelf near the charger if I’m working during the meal service, and in 2A and 1F that’s on the right of the seat which makes it easier for me to use.

thanks for the clarification,

I didnt know row 3 was smaller, EVERY youtube video is of 1/2 because of the partition,

and yes im right handed too and ive sat on a left handed armrest type setup and agree that I much prefer everything on the right!

ADD: Tried to book one of those free 2 hr singapore tours, all booked out😮‍💨

Question about lounge access in SIN. I have a single ticket MEL-SIN-BWN. The first sector was in F and the second sector will be in J. I arrived in SIN at 3pm today and left the airport to go to a hotel. My flight tomorrow leaves at 9am. I aim to get to the airport at 6.30am. Will I get into the Private Room or will I be sent to the J lounge?

The Private Room can be accessed as an arrivals lounge for passengers coming off a First flight, but that’s only on the same day.

You’ll be eligible for the Business lounge (or regular First if you have status).

No matter. I might as well slum it in the J lounge. It will be good practice for the flight. I have never flown less than F with SQ before.

‘slum it’ in the J lounge is about right! I would put it on par with the QFi melbourne lounge. only that QF is planning to refurbish theirs, and SQ has just done it! It’s a sad, disappointing lounge (SQ SIN)

I thought the singapore J lounge was pretty good. Excellent in food selection.
It was a bit crowded and food courtish though. Not really a place to relax/chill

Could it possibly be worse than the humiliation of being looked after by cabin crew wearing blue kebayas?
