Credit Card Offers St.George Amplify Qantas Signature: 80,000 bonus Qantas Points (expires 30/4/25)

Be warned, you may get two credit enquires for this one card application. Was told it’s a known issue but the complaint department denied this and claimed its normal to have 2 enquiries - complaint still in progress....

Only one credit file hit for me.

Applied for this card before Xmas and waited almost 2 weeks for the card to arrive.

Completed the min spend last month. Waiting for this months statement to see if I’ve got the bonus points yet.

Also received the black card a week ago and got another 1000 points for my “patience”. Nothing wrong with the temporary green card they sent. Just a bit ugly lol

Just applied online for this one, it didn't ask me to attach any proof of income, didn't ask for TFN, didnt email me the application number (which I forgot to screenshot) and most annoyingly didn't allow me to specify a mailing address. Really hope before they send the card there is a way to specify proper delivery address or I will never receive it at my residential address (our mail boxes are broken into on a daily basis).

My recently cancelled anz visa is still showing as current on my credit report (who knows how long they will take to show its closed), so hope I'm not declined because it falsely looks like I have more more credit than listed on the application. Was last an SGB customer about 19 years ago (when my Advance Bank account was taken over), hope this doesn't cause the issues others have had.

The wait begins

Now I realise why my application had such problems, I also had an Advance Bank account many many years ago, must be a legacy IT glitch.

Not uncommon. Don't worry about it. Banks know the info on these reports is not accurate.

More interesting is that my credit rating dropped 113 points on Credit Simple within 1 hour of applying - only thing different was this new credit inquiry from SBG, seems crazy that an inquiry drops your score so much, especially since the outcome of the application is as yet undetermined. No change to my credit savvy score (yet), then again cant see this application there yet.

Still no email or sms from SGB with application reference number (really kicking myself for not taking a screen shot, but then again all other cards I've applied for have emailed a copy of the application through). So i have no idea how I will follow up on the application if I don't hear back, given the huge hit on credit score Id like this to be successful so that hopefully score resolves once I make first payment.

Unlikely, these services only update your 'points' once a month. it would be a huge coincidence they did so one hour after you applied.

there are so many factors at play here, you cant assign a movement in the points system to just one factor, and they aint going to tell you either.

Well we will have to agree to disagree, as i got an email from Credit Simple saying my March score was available an hour after i lodged the application and the only difference to what it was showing earlier today (i checked before I lodged the SGB application) was the credit inquiry from SGB. The anz visa card I cancelled last week, is still showing as open too (so they aren't recognising that reduction of credit yet).

I've never made a late payment, defaulted etc so the drop is entirely due to SGB application, as haven't applied for any other credit since getting the anz visa 12 months ago.

Unlikely.

Not sure you understand how this works. You might like to have a look at some of the other threads where this has been/is currently being discussed.

It is a distinct possiblity. My wife applied for the St.George credit card with a 1000 rating across the board for 2+ years (hasn't been doing credit cards and is now going to start) and suddenly has dropped to 830's or there abouts on all system with the SGB enquiry showing up as a "change".

In my case (well my wife's), a smaller sample set probably makes swings more pronounced. In Lynda's case where there has been a more active history it's less likely and it could have been something from years back either dropping off or possibly changes in algorithms to weight this differently having negative impacts to some.

It is definitely the card application, as i too only have a very small number of items on my report - 2 open cards: a visa and a mastercard, 3 inquiries: last years anz visa, this sgb visa application and an old closed mobile phone account. , My amex and mortgage dont show up at all, nor do utilities, or my current mobile account - so heaps of positive history omitted. There is so little activity on my report it is bloody obvioius what has cause the impact.

Im not a regular churner. Amex's decision to stop doing bank issued cards prompted me to change my card mix last January for the first time in 15+ years , and the lure of sign up bonus, had me swapping out visa again to avoid annual fee.

I did read the other thread, it is the reason i signed up to check my scores, but until the banks, amex and utilities start reporting positives properly those with perfect history like mine and small number of items do get hit negatively by inquiries. For me 1 new card looks like a 33%-50% change in total credit as these premium cards have 15k min limits.

Which reporting agencies show StG enquiry?

Credit simple (Illion, formerly Dunn & Bradstreet) show SGB inquiries - note it doesnt say if approved or declined, as approved ceedit is listed in another section. So if approved you see both the inquiry and the credit secured. An inquiry with no approved credit doesnt say if this is because person was declined or opted not to open account.
