Just got approval email, waiting on the card to be delivered to the branch, so i cant start spending.

Applied on Monday, submitted income yesterday, fully approved today,

Thanks for your reply. I applied for my husband on the weekend. But he is retired on set a pension for life, so I am thinking this may be a problem. We have not heard anything, other than acknowledging the receipt of the application.

As if they are reading this thread, Creditsavvy update yesterday showing the StG enquiry and another application. Score dropped by 5. lol

Hi all,

I am interested in the St George Amplify card for 80,000 points.

However, is 80,000 points good for St George? Have they ever issued cards with more points?

Thanks!

Spent $4k
Paid the bill on statement.
Do points auto go to Qantas?
How long to show up?

Edit: Have to check but I think I got amplify points card

Applied for this card for my wife.
StG rang her to seek mortgage details.
I'd put the mortgage payments on the application, and StG actually hold the mortgage and our bank a/c we pay it out of and have done for 10 years

Waiting.....waiting......zzzzzz

Got the 80k points in my second statement last week!! This is my first time earning bonus points from a credit card. Well, its actually my first time earning any points from a credit card.
I have also requested my Qantas lounge invitations which will take 14 days to arrive.

Now, should I keep or close the card? I reckon closing is better so as to not miss out on any bonus point offers that may come up next year. What do the experienced card churners say?

As it costs nothing for the first year, I plan to keep mine for a year and then cancel when the 2nd year annual fee is due. Once I hit the spend required for bonus points, I will only use if its not practical to use my Amex Qantas Ultimate which has a better points earn.

There are two other qantas earning points visa card that have great bonus points for new sign-ups to apply for before returning for another another St George Card, namely:
  • ANZ Frequent Flyer Black (120k bonus points, 2 lounge passes, 1 point per $ uncapped and 75 Status Credits) for $300 first year - keep an eye out for a change as I got this card last years for $0 first year fee, and last month the fee was only $212 - so its changing all the time.
  • NAB Qantas Signature Rewards Card (90k bonus points, 1 point per $ for first $5k spend each month) for $295.
If you look at mastercard then:
* Qantas Premier Platinum (100k bonus points, 1 point per $, 2 lounge invitations) for $195

I personally wouldn't keep it as the points earn (0.75 to the dollar) is not the best. You can get 1point/$1 out there.
Granted there is no annual fee, but there are 2 main reasons to close the card immediately after you have safely banked the bonus points.
1. With St George, as with most card these days, there is an exclusion period (typically 12 months). The sooner you close the card, the sooner you can re-apply for it again and be elligible for the bonus points bounty.
2. Whilst closing a credit car may or may not affect your credit score, it does get noted on your file. So in a few months time, when you apply for your next one, you don't have to mention it (and the sizeable min $15k credit limit) on your next application.

New to churning?

Never hold a card a second longer than needed.

Start the 12 or 18 month waiting period as soon as possible.

Unless you have hundreds of thousands of dollars going through an account then the only way to earn large point tallies is to churn and burn!

I was just thinking this. No matter what the earn rate on the card is the no of points I can earn by spending on the card is meagre even if I put all my expenses through the card.

And don't let a little thing like your credit score bother you

How does the credit score affect us? I noticed the score go down by 5 points on credit savvy when I applied for this card. If it keeps going down by 5 points for every card I apply, I should still be above 800 after a couple of years.

It's doesn't work that way.

See this thread for lots of information/examples:

CC churning - equifax scores

In short, I pay it no attention. It does not impact upon whether to grant me a credit card or not.

One week in from application and still no response. Not sure whether to contact them or not. Or wait until next week.
