Got my requal pack today (nice and slim compared to what they used to send!). In it the letter had the standard blurb about comping me and expecting me to fly the required SC's next year. The crazy thing is that if they had've waited one more day I would have been over the 1200!

As this is now my 2nd year that I've been comp'd (but actually flew the SC's required each time), I wonder if they know I did the miles or just think I've been comp'd...

I think the pack was slimmer as the card is no longer embossed ;)

I am getting the impression any review takes into account whether you actually made the SC's or not even if you had received the "Comp" letter.

Mention has been made on one of the threads that you are "uncomped", so to speak, if you make the SC's after the comp letter.

Remember that there are a lot of people that do not get comp'ed or even asked for an explanation and plans of future travel. So even taking into account what serfty and oz_mark said I would still somehow remimd Qantas that you did not get comp'ed but attained Platinum status by making the required SCs.

The GFC put the brakes on travel over the past 18 months, and I've only just started flying again.

I am curious to know if anyone has been 'looked after' and comp'ed for a 2nd time in a row.

I think I just got comped.

I now have this on the summary screen:
Current Status: Platinum
Status reassessment will occur: 30 Apr 2011
Status credits earned from 01 May 2009: 30

My expiry date is 30 April 2010.

I am pretty much on the 8 week point so this would be nice as I have some HKG-NRT flying coming up mid-year and I quite like F lounges.

Is that right you only earnt 30 credits and got comped? I earnt 290 last year and they would not comp me for platinum. You must have had high SC's in the years prior
Ironically I got comped today for gold when I was going to fall 200 short.

Yup, that's it. Just 30 SC's and 3 QF flights. I have had WP for 2 years with both coming from DONE4 maxed out for SC/points earning. About 5000 SC's from two years.

Job change and, well, earning points became less of a consideration as opposed to paying the mortgage :p.

Does seem a little on the low side for being comp'd (esp with some of the other stories floating around - like my renewal recently).

I'm also interested in the level of SC over previous years, and if there's a lot of F or J travel on Qantas in particular.

I was a little slow in composing my response and missed this post before mine was posted!

So only 3 flights on QF? You're the first person I'm aware of that has got around the 4 sectors on QF rule... I am definitely impressed.

And although 5000 SC's in 2 years is a high level of SC's, being based on DONE4's, I can't see a huge chunk of revenue to QF from them.

The mysteries of comping remain unsolved!

I have known several people to have had platinum renewed despite next to no flying in a year.

At the rate the GFC is fading in the rear window I doubt thats a trend that will continue next year, I wont have an issue getting Gold and with the help of a couple of fun SC runs am actually trying to return to WP this year.

I am very happy to throw my hands in the air and praise the god of upgrades for this one. I did not expect to be comped.

I actually booked a flight to HBA just to make sure I had my minimum four. Rest assured that I will be flying this leg in a week.

My DONE's didn't have a whole lot on QF (usually LHR-ASIA-MEL) but I did kick up a stink last year when I spent 384,000 points to go JFK-MEL oneway on the A-380 in F and they changed the aircraft, sat me and my partner at opposite ends of the cabin and had the purser making inappropriate jokes. No idea if this made a difference but it may have as I ended up on the phone to Joyce’s PA.

PS. I know the JFK-LAX leg is schd as a 744.

My only OpUp was as an SG and I only received the first edition of Air. The mystery does continue.

Whoa:shock:

IMO that would definitely be the reason you were comped. I assume you got some kind of compensation for the flight?

I don't think number of SC's or average has anything to do with being comped a status or not. There are reports of people missing out on Platinum when over 1,000 SC's and less than 1200 SC's.

For a Platinum my SC's average is quite low and I have now qualified 3 years in a row with very much bare minimum SC's required. First year I finished exactly on 1400 SC's a couple of days before my reassessment date. I have been "comp'ed" Platinum both years since although in the end I made the SC's required....

My FF anniversary date is 30 April and I've heard nothing from them yet so time will tell.

When they ask about future travel plans are they only interested in QF flights or will OneWorld/Partner flights help?

I am not certain but I have a feeling all Oneworld travel will count towards the explanation and final decision making process.

Should be all OW flights that are points earning AFAIK.

After a less than stellar year last year for those of us in the resources industry, my run of SG looked like coming to and end on April 30 with only 310 SC's to date. Given that I have a couple of reasonably significant holidays planned for the next 12 months, I was really going to miss the extra baggage allowance and lounge access, priority boarding / check in etc.

So, late last week and following the lead of other posters here, I emailed Qantas, and yesterday received a phone call from QFF customer service in which I was briefly asked about pending travel. Net result - comped for the coming year.

So...Thanks Qantas and thanks AFF for giving me the idea of chasing it up!

Rockdoc.

Congratulations on a positive outcome. I am sitting at 410 of the 1,200 I need. But I think I will go on a 800 Status credit holiday. I am not a Fan of Flying just for SC, but I am a fan of working it backwards.

IE. I need 800 SC, so where shall I go and what route will I take to achieve it. In the past it has netted me some good holidays in "out there" places! Eg Bulgaria and Iceland :)
