Strategy to obtain US Amex

I load-up my Wise USD account from time to time, and then Amex debit that through Amex Autopay (via the Wise bank, Evolve Bank and Trust)

To top up my US Wise account with 1000 usd there is a one time fee of 11 usd if I top up with a debit card like Curve or Revolut.

In the long run I'm planning to move away from Wise due to their top up charges, cancel my European Revolut and try to register for an American Revolut instead. Assuming US Revolut don't have any top up charges...

Edit: Chatted with Revolut support and they claimed it was only possible to top up US Revolut with a debit card or bank transfer. Strange... So if I get a Chase card for Ms it should work? But not Amex as it's not supported card by Revolut.

I recently got approved for the Citi Premier card which got sent to my mates house in US. Whilst adding the card into Apple Wallet, I was asked to call Citi to verify myself. Which went to the Fraud team. She asked me whether I have a home phone (which I dont). Then she asked me one of the strangest question that she wants to speak to my employer, I said this is a personal card why do you need to speak to my employer. She said, that a letter will be sent to me. I am intrigued what will be in the letter asking me to provide. Some have received a code in the letter to authenticate

PS: This drama happened with my Citi Checking account a year ago, I had to provide the code, proof of my SSN, and a 3 way call wiith Amex/HSBC. Not sure what triggered it.

Any experience of this kind with Citi will be helpful

I got the same issue back in last year.

They told me they will send me a letter, I said no I can provide you my other mobile phone so you can send the verification code. Then, the lady was ok with my other mobile number which is a GV number. Then, she immediately called this number to verify, lucky I was able to receive the phone call. And, she verified me and helped me to add the card to apple wallet.

2 days later, I tried to add the same card to my wife phone and I got the same issue. Called the same number again and she told me that she can’t accept my mobile number because this time the computer generated a different question. She asked that if I have a bank account with Citi, I was lucky again, I got a Citi checking account, she asked the balance, the last credit transaction and finally I got verified. Then, she helped me to add the card again for my wife phone.

So be careful when adding your card to any mobile wallet it may trigger the fraud alert and they have to verify you before you are able to do that.

Hope this helps!

My Credit Score came through after I used my US address with my Citi card. The Amex cards are reporting to it too. Might need to change my HSBC address so it will report to it too as it’s currently registered to my AU address.

Is the best way to get a hilton aspire still
Get an Amex AU Card.
Wait 3 months then Global transfer
Use MYUS address and forward it onwards.

Do i need to wait the 3 months before doing the global transfer?

Well, 10 days ago this was the advice provided:
You need at least 3 months of Amex history in oz . You can message me if u need more info .

The only conflicting advice I’m getting is about the forwarders
Most people that are successful had friends or family in the states.
I had no-one in the US who could help.

When I was approved for the Aspire card (courier-delivered) two years ago, there were no issues with my Sarasota address (MyUS).

When I was approved for a low-end Hilton card 18 months later (i.e., to be delivered by the postal system) I asked Amex to expedite delivery by courier as I was ‘about to travel’. It was courier-delivered and processed at Sarasota with no issues.

Edit: I also had already opened a TextNow account so as Amex could contact me on a US phone number.

Oh that’s great advice thank you so much.

That’s answered everything I’m going to sign up for those services now :)
I haven’t checked the TextNew website for some months, to see the current options. However, I pay a fee in order to keep the same US phone number. TextNow is an app and I use it with my normal Oz iphone number, so no need for a second phone, but you have probably researched that already. Maybe just take a bit of time to look into all of this.

Does TextNow work fine for you with Amex?

There are also mixed reports about people not being able to receive/reply to texts from Amex

Hi DC3,

I am planning to apply for the Aspire card.
Does AMEX call you as part of the application process ? Hence the need for a US number ?

Personally for me, it works as long as I am on the premium yearly plan which lets you keep the number for a year.

Got a voicemail from them at 3am and then spoke to them with the Textnow phone number as soon as I woke up.
